Some great news; Wire, the admired British post-punk band, is about to release a new album. The band is giving away a free son from the album, which I'm still not sure how I feel about it because it's so short, but that was what made Wire so unique - their ability to tell the story in [...]

In truth, I'm more engaged by Professor Scanner 's compelling new Conversations with the Dead & his mesmerising iPhone Whisper than the new [...]
Given the resumés of the members of Githead—guitarist Colin Newman (Wire), bassist Malka Spigel and drummer Max Franken (both Minimal Compact) and guitarist Robin Rimbaud (Scanner)—it's not surprising the band so effortlessly mixes a pop sensibility with an experimental edge. New album Landing, Githead's third since forming in 2004, is due out next month on the band's [...]
[ download ] One isn't likely to come across a rock quartet with a finer pedigree than Githead . Guitarist Colin Newman is largely responsible for the sound of the most enduring-and arguably most influential-post-punk acts of all time: Wire . His wife, frequent collaborator, and former Minimal Compact member Malka Spigel handles vocal duties. Her former bandmate from that Israeli post-punk outfit, Max Franken, lays down the drums, and the band is rounded out by Robin Rimbaud (aka Scanner ), who swaps his usual electronics rig for [...]
Since making its debuting five years at the Swim record label's 10th anniversary event, Githead , aka the collective featuring Wire's Colin Newman, Minimal Compact's Malka Spigel and Max Franken, and Scanner's Robin Rimbaud, has shelled out four releases. The band's latest, and apparently be "most accomplished" to day, titled Landing , will hit stores on November 10th. The ten track effort is billed as the result of "Githead's growing power as a live band, and the development of work in Swim's studio and during trips to Rotterdam." Thus, what you'll hear, as the issued press [...]
Githead is Collin Newman's side project. You remember Collin from a small band called Wire, right? I fuckin' hope you do. Speaking of Wire, they've got a new "Read & Burn 3" EP coming out reeeeeaaaaal soon that I'm super...
"Whaddya got some nougat ? Chompin' away up there? Sounds good." -- ScharplingTron 3000®, longing for some of Scratchy Record's snack "It's all or nothing in this life. It's all or nothing. Champs like me can relate to that stuff." -- Tom, dipping into the bottomless ABBA box for "The Winner Takes It All" "I think managing a baseball team is about as hard as ... I don't know ... as hard as ... ehhhhhhh ... opening a Hotmail account?" -- Tom on sleepyhead Joe Torre's undemanding job [...]
You'll recall that trip back home, where I rooted through the dark corners of Mother's Basement and uncovered a forgotten mix tape! As promised, here's Part 2 of this fortunate find. Once again, Mad Props to The Boys in the Basement, who I should add recently successfully fought off attempts at sociopolitical profiling. Rockfour, "Half & Half" Githead, "These Days" Clarence Smith, "Sometimes I Feel Like a Motherless Child" Cobra Verde, "Crashing in a [...]

To put it very, very lightly, we are ridiculously excited about this week's Interversity . The one and only Colin Newman of art-poppers Githead , post-punk inventors Wire (!!!!!!!!!), co-founder of Swim~ Records , and mastermind behind experimental music hub PostEverything.com has answered a few questions for us, as well as included a few excerpts from an interview he did with a French mag a few months back (of which will be italicized). His last album with Githead, Art Pop , has been swirling through our heads in wonderfully [...]

Githead - Drop (Swim 2007) Githead – Art Pop / Swim Though I can't remember his exact phrasing, a colleague of mine once proclaimed that everything he learned about balancing experimental music and pop came from Wire. The long-lived London four-piece was one of, if not the actual reason for having to invent a new genre tag for punk-based experimental music. Is there a more quintessential post-punk album than Chairs Missing ? And most impressively, beneath the barrage of unpredictable and intense explorations into [...]
To be fair the title of this post should really say "My New Favorite Record This Week, Last Week, The Week Before, The Week Before That And Probably Next Week Too.". Githead are Colin Newman from Wire, Robin Rimbaud (aka Scanner), Colin's wife Malka Spigel and drummer Max Franken, both formerly of Israeli new wave act Minimal Compact. Githead have been in existence since 2004. They have already
