Sometimes music takes a little while to resonate with you, perhaps needing several listens to fully appreciate a songs full potential. Other times, however, the music hits you instantly, perfectly capturing a current state or mood, as is the case with new Melbourne four piece Glaciers . continue reading >>

On Saturday night at Higher Ground in South Burlington, Vermont, Trey Anastasio and his current septet took the stage for their first show of the season . While Phish has only debuted one new Anastasio song in 2011, Steam, Trey's solo band unveiled two new songs at Higher Ground featuring a pair of the songwriters he's worked most with over the years. Dubstep needs many layers for when it goes outside during the Winter and the early Spring, so ' Glaciers ' by Her Majesty & The Wolves provides that wonderful Winter coat that we all like to show off when those cold like temperatures occur. Devilishly uplifting and strategic, this is one for the pushy, jump-up-n'-downy, front row crews! HER MAJESTY & THE WOLVES - Glaciers (Roksonix Mix)

► This Just in Dept.: The Viper Room is getting into the webcasting business — a weekly series called "Loud on the Sunset Strip," which soft-launched last week, is carrying live performances tonight by New Kingdom (pictured), Abused Romance and Submission Red (which kicks things off at 8 p.m.). Like the webcasts from the Natural History Museum's First Fridays events, they will be carried through Stickam.com, specifically this link . (After the jump, we've embedded the player for tonight's show.) ► Glacier Hiking , the Ross Golan/Tommy Walter collaboration whom [...]
Glacier City (Lungz, Soze, etc) and Stay Humble (YP, Bighomie DOE, D. Mose, etc) had a nice little mini-mansion down in Austin, TX last week, and had Q Hefna on hand to document it. This is what happens when people stop being polite...

11. The Scottish Enlightenment - St. Thomas I waited ages for this album to materialise, and then once I'd loved the preceding EPs so much I started to get paranoid about over-anticipating it and ruining it for myself. Once the ludicrous over-thinking was over, however, it turned out to be slow-burning gem: an album that simply fixes you in its gaze and keeps on reeling you in, sometimes so slowly that you wonder how it is so impossible to escape. The Scottish Enlightenment - Pascal [...]

What follows isn't going to chart the music world or make your life substantially better in any way, but is far better than it ought to be. Her Majesty & The Wolves is the brilliantly named new music project from former Pussycat Doll Kimberley Wyatt (mostly famous for being able to get her leg behind her head). She did some singing on Aggro Santos 'Candy' single earlier in the year and kinda stuck it to Nicole Scherzinger by having a much bigger hit than the PCD frontwoman has yet achieved. Her Majesty & [...]

I first got into Glaciers via some acoustic sessions recorded a while ago, and I'd come to think of the music as matching the name, which it still sort of does, just not in the way that I first thought. Initially I saw the glacial nature of the band in the stillness. Acoustically this is quiet, quiet music, of the sort that is drowned out by scrunched footsteps in the snow. In this incarnation, with cymbal crashes muted but nevertheless everywhere, and the jangle of guitar never far away either, it seems more that it is the quiet, [...]

This podcast is called the Greencast because we have the most hobbled government in recent memory - Cameron has kinda, sorta, maybe won, in the sense that he is actually the PM. On the other hand Clegg, having been butchered at the polls, after a promising campaign, is now in a position of more influence than he was ever likely to gain from the election alone. And yet Labour, despite being deposed, seem to have come out of it all better than anyone. They may be out of power, but they are free from the millstone [...]

A few killer works by Justin Allen LaFontaine . I had the Up North one on my blog a while back, but forgot how cool it was until today when I was perusing the electronic basement as it were. I wonder where that photo was taken.. Would love to see some recent work by Justin! Permalink | Comment On This Post (%) | Tweet This Post | Add to del.icio.us | Stumbleupon Post tags: [...]

Little Matthew, who helps us out with the record label and filming of Toad Sessions and guzzling of gin and whatnot, wrote about a band called Glaciers a little while ago, the musical and artistic project of a Mr. Nicolas Burrows . And here is a little more news. Burrows recently recorded a session with The Golden Owl , which is one of the loveliest looking music blogs I've happened across in a long time. The results included a long interview, which I highly recommend reading here , and three lovely new recordings. [...]

Glaciers Debut LP " And The Sea Won The Battle" was waiting for me on my door step when I got home from work yesterday. "And The Sea Won The Battle" is full of sonic textures and crashing atmospheres with just the right amount of down time as well as taking the crescendo all the way to space before it breaks into blasting rocket engines. They also find a good groove and jam it out until the amps bleed. Although not the most original sound I see can where Glaciers might lose points for sounding alot like their predecessors [...]
