Glass Animals were one of the bands I was most looking forward to seeing in Brighton. I first wrote about them years ago, when there was no more than a couple of songs on their MySpace page (yes, that long ago), but they've been distinctly slow-moving since then. An EP was digitally released a year or so ago, but they were so quite overall that I have to confess, I thought they were just one of those bands which was slowly giving up on the idea of being a band at all. Not so, it seems, [...]

Hello again from Brighton. Ian and I are down at the Great Escape again this year, and will be joined later in the week by Mrs. Toad. I like The Great Escape. Brighton is an awesome place to be, which is important if you're going to try and lure Mrs. Toad to a music festival. In some ways I prefer it to SXSW, because they don't really focus on big-name headliners here, meaning that it really is all about new music and up and coming bands. At least, that makes it more fun for me personally, [...]

Oooh what a surprise this was. Didn't expect anything like this kind of sound as I pressed the play button. Glass Animals just signed to Kaya Kaya (on XL recordings) and have delivered some pretty impressive stuff on their Soundcloud profile. Self Blown got a hold of them on HumanHuman and got us turned into a frenzy ever since, especially this 'Black Mambo' track we totally recommend : Glass Animals' is the first signing to the new imprint kaya kaya records via xl. They are the perfect collision [...]
Jezzy continues leaking singles in anticipation of his upcoming project, Scarlett Sage, to be released sometime in June. Like his previous two, "Hide" doesn't disappoint. Over a super chill, twanged-out guitar sample courtesy of Glass Animals , Dior lays down emotional bars about being a recluse ("I'm not going nowhere, but I know how to hide"). Peep the simple, yet effective, video below where Jez takes a midnight jaunt by car and boat. Follow @dcbui

Recent signees to Paul Epwoth’s new label Wolf Note label, Oxford’s Glass Animals have debuted their new single “Black Mambo”. Sadly, not referencing Kobe Bryant, the moody R&B-flavored cut uses Dave Bayley’s dangerously seductive voice to lull you into a despairing daze. There’s just enough haunting carnival magic to add a creepy atmosphere, especially as the drip-drop bleeps start to make their presence felt. As Peter Silberman-esque melodies star dripping in near the end, you start to realize how brilliant this all is.

Glass Animals have announced a new double A-side single 'Black Mambo' b/w 'Exxus', following on from 2012's 'Leaflings' EP on XL imprint Kaya Kaya Recordings. Rooted in some Oxfordshire forestry, the group recorded the new tracks for a release on Paul Epworth's Wolf Tone label, with a release due out this June alongside a headline date at London's Electrowerkz. 'Black Mambo' slithers like the similarly-named venomous snake, latching onto every inch of life and sapping any happiness for all its worth. It's creeping, theatrical; a step up from the tracks that featured on [...]

Glass Animals are back with "Black Mambo" after their great debut EP "Leaflings" last year. Bass-heavy electronics, eccentric vocals and RnB elements shaping a fresh new sound.

Recent signees to some dude called Paul Epworth's Wolf Tone label, Glass Animals impress with possibly the band's strongest track to date; the slow motion lurch-groove of "Black Mambo". Impeccably arranged (those little bits of strings and keyboard bloops seem to ebb in and out of the track in only the most perfect of places), "Black Mambo" will draw you in immediately with it's robust arsenal of hooky melodies and instrumentals. Not to miss. Glass Animals ( Facebook ) Rating [...]

Neo-soul shivers run up the spine of Oxfordshire quartet Glass Animals ’ sultry new single, ‘Black Mambo’. Sing-songy storytelling slinks across bouncy xylophone notes and slow, jazzy drums, while drips of hollow coo’s dance with the candlelight shadows projected on the wall. The band that wow’d us in 2012 with their fantastic Leaflings EP, Glass Animals continue to evolve their blend of billowing hip hop beats and inviting tales told after the lights have been turned out, and all tied together by stunningly [...]

'Black Mambo', the new track from Glass Animals is absolute magic. It's got this slow-burning R&B groove that's hard to shake off, especially when it's layered with blipping droplet sounds, melodic scrapes and a droning bass. Frontman Dave Bayley's velvety voice lures us in with lines like, "Dance with me and shake your bones." When his voice becomes more intense at the quieter points on 'Black Mambo', it's got something a bit Alt-J about it. Harmonies are also brought in towards the end making it even more epic. The Oxford [...]

In new music blogging there’s definitely an ever-present element of optimism, and rightly so. In reality, we’re dealing with embryonic projects, so you either lapse into silence or stick it all on red and see what happens. It’s only regrettably rarely that a band pops up with such a steady approach and singular sound that the prospect of a debut album starts to look like a seriously exciting prospect, but the more that Glass Animals release, the more that looks to be the case. “Black Mambo” is their long overdue follow up to last year’s “Leaflings” [...]

I was worried that Glass Animals would have trouble following up the tremendous "Cocoa Hooves" with anything anywhere near as good, but "Black Mambo" proves my fears wholly unfounded, with its mysterious lyrics and subtle melodies impressing once again. The delicate but purposeful vocals are joined by slowly shifting production, and while their isn't quite [...]

Below are the first ten of the twenty artists who we’d shamelessly recommend to you to get intimate with this year. Just to lay down some straight-faced guidelines first - in no way is this a prediction of who’s going to do ‘well’ in a commercial sense this year, or even who might get all the blogs rolling off superlatives about - it’s simply new artists who have proven themselves either by consistently releasing interesting new music, or in a couple of exceptional cases have released just one track so peerless that we’re breaking our own rules and including them [...]

Gluttony Is The New Black x That’s Deck Present: Best of 2012 Mix “Hey dude, so uh, I really like your blog…” “Thanks boo, I uh, think yours is pretty cool too…” Two blogs that have been exchanging tracks and tripping over each other’s posts in admiration all year long, finally decided to succumb to those urges, and give you all what you really want. That’s right, That’s Deck and GITNB got together to bring you a mix of everything that was exceptionally good in 2012. We [...]

So, after a couple of slightly misnumbered podcasts - 245 coming after 243, and then 244 having to come after that to try and correct the mistake, hoping two wrongs might , if not make a right exactly, at least gloss over the original wrong somewhat - we are back on track with #246. In the right order and everything. There's no real theme to this week's podcast, although we have a fair bit of new stuff in there - some by The Walkmen, The Douglas Firs, The Spook School, Monster Island and a couple of others. [...]
