Napalm Death are on stage right in front of me, still as brutal and abrasive as ever. If you close your eyes to block out the image of the four slightly pudgy middle-aged men onstage you’d be forgiven for imagining a younger troupe of players; yet that would detract from their charm, they’ve never lost that youthful desire to get in people’s faces and make noise, regardless of taste or fashion. It’s folly to measure them against modern standards of musicianship or songwriting. Taken in today’s context you’d perhaps be forgiven for taking one look [...]

Off the back of their incredible live show at The Forum in London earlier this week, Festival Republic, promoter of The Reading & Leeds Festival, are proud to announce the addition of GLASSJAW to the line-up for the NME/Radio 1 Stage. One of the most innovative bands of our times, the Grammy nominated New Yorkers have often been cited as a key influence in the post-hardcore genre. After the release of their debut EP ‘Kiss Kiss Bang Bang’ in 1997, the first full length album ‘Everything You [...]

Following up [...]
Embarked on their first national headlining tour in years, Glassjaw came through the Starland Ballroom for one of the final shows drawing their tour to a close. With them, they
I was minding my own business Wednesday night just jeering Carmelo Anthony and cheering Danilo Gallinari, when a friend’s friend whammied my world via donation of one single (!) blast of her super-weed. I knew the ganj was trouble cuz I immediately I began to hack, seize at my own chest, and think “Aw shit. [...]

Glassjaw is set to play Sayreville's Starland Ballroom this Saturday, March 26th. Want to go? Of course you do! If you don't already have tickets and can't scrap together the funds
Since their inception, Glassjaw's strength has always centered around a progressive approach to aggressive alt-rock and hardcore-derived music. While the majority of their songs have been go-for-the-throat rockers, it was the imaginative way the band doled out their fierce musical lacerations that stuck a chord with audiences. With the release of their new Coloring Book EP, however, the group has revealed a more ambitious agenda by settling on a surprisingly patient and reflective approach that relies more on developing a sense of space and constructing textured soundscapes than it does on brute force. Of all the [...]

Glassjaw With all this talk on Radiohead, The Strokes, Arcade Fire, and whatever buzz band orbiting around the blogosphere; it pains me to see a certain band completely changing the game of the music business get ignored. Enter Glassjaw . If you're unfamiliar, the loosely categorized post-hardcore group has been influencing bands you probably hate since 1993. A large majority of the emo-core and scream-o genre can be blamed on Glassjaw’s erratic and organized chaos of a record, 2000’s Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About [...]

Photos by Moe Castro “You don't know! You don't know! You don't know!” The crowd chanted in unison as the drum loop intro to “You Think You're (John Fucking Lennon)” set off the show last Thursday at Center Stage . Slowly the boys came out one by one and the audience promptly lost their shit. As the first verse started with the huge, biting riff and manic vocals, it was a homecoming of sorts for me, both as a fan and as a musician. As a fan because they are one [...]
Of great shows big and small: ► With a new album "Wit's End" on the way in April, singer-songwriter Cass McCombs plays the Center for the Arts in Eagle Rock, joined by Big Search and Frank Fairfield . ► Har Mar Superstar and Marijuana Deathsquads wind up their residency at the Satellite — and it's been quite a party — but the curiosity tonight is opener Samantha Ronson , performing with a live band. ► Sebadoh's "Bakesale/Harmacy Remembering Time Tour" moves across town to [...]
If you're Glassjaw and you're in the middle of your first major tour in roughly a decade you could easily cash in on your past glory and close out your set with a couple of old-school face-rippers. Everyone would go home battered and bruised, safe and happy in the knowledge that they got exactly what they expected. But that's not what happened Thursday night. Instead when the band took the stage for their encore, they launched immediately into "Black Nurse," the first track from their new prog and space rock-driven tour-only EP, Coloring Book , and didn't [...]
