Here's the weekly(ish) update of new tunes i've discovered lately. On a side note this blog now has a myspace page, so if your that way inclined then please visit the page and send me a friend request - www.myspace.com/musicliberatio n . Within the next week or so I will be revealing some pretty exciting developments for this blog so watch out for that. MP3: Supergrass - Bad Blood [...]

Link [...]

BBC has unveiled their annual Sounds of 2008, which is basically their list of the unknown acts most likely to be known within the next 12 months. I must say, they've got a pretty good track record, having pinpointed the likes of 50 Cent, The Bravery and last year's choice Mika. Then again, I suppose any list built on the thoughts of 150 pundits has to hit some nails. And I'm talking about those long-as-Isengard, sharp-as-my-monkey's-nipples kinda nails. So anyways, this year's cornerstone is a lass named Adele. So start namedroppin', y'all. Here's the selected bunch, plus a [...]

MP3 - The Temptations - Satan Clause Is Coming To Town Buy The Temtations 'The Ultimate Collection' from Amazon The world has been holding it's breath for the past 24 hours awaiting the Devil's top 5 tracks for 2007. OK possibly not but here are the five tracks that made the most difference to the Devil's life these past 12 months. After extensive research (well as extensive as possible even the Devil can't listen to [...]

2008 is shaping up to be a huge year for music, and these are the best of the British bands releasing new material this year. Cajun Dance Party - These 5 London teens are still at school and yet they've already released two spectacular singles, The Next Untouchable and Amylase. Which is pretty amazing given the time constraints of A-Levels (trust me, I'm in the same boat!). Their album will be amazing. Cajun Dance Party- The Next Untouchable [...]
Hey guys. Here's the end of the first half of the countdown. Before I post the rest of the list over the next couple of days I'll be counting down the top 50 tonight on my radio show (midnight EST, which is in about 45 minutes....sorry for the short notice) So if you'd like to hear the top 50 in order without having to do too much clicking (and with the added bonus of my mellifluous voice introducing all the songs), check out my show, The World's Slowest Dance Party. It'll be archived here [...]
Hi folks. I started compiling my favorite songs of the year list (an annual tradition that generally takes me at least a week), and between that and the last Jock Jams installment I almost didn't get to post today's mix. But it's still Monday (11:47 PM, but still Monday.) It's freezing in my apartment and I haven't had any dinner, hence this mix being a little bit edgy and bleak. Still, the guy you're nailing is sure to like it. And, if you like any of the songs, you should go out and buy [...]

The signs were all there that I should hate this band. First there's the name – Glasvegas . At best, it sounds like a well-dodgy Glasgow club. Maybe it was a well-dodgy Glasgow club. Second there's the Alan McGee connection. He's been trumpeting the greatness of Glasvegas for the best part of a year now, but like most McGee rants, the natural response is to ignore them. He hasn't officially backed anyone decent since the mid-90s, and his recent recantations over My Bloody Valentine is only further proof that the man is an idiot who [...]
Football and music eh, go together like cyrsanthemums and training jersey's? Well, new band Glasvegas seem to think so and their music reflects the glorious union in technicolor style. The only thing holding them back is Alan McGee's patronage (remember the Paddington's and the MBV quote?), if you can see beyond that stumbling block then the band stand a good fighting chance. 'Flowers & Football

No I'm not 'on about the abnormally embarrassing retrograde TG4 talent show (remember the dude in black face who utilised home made puppet technology to pretend to be the entire Jackson 5?). I'm talking about these lads, who are sort of psychedelic rockabilly young chancers from Glasgow (hence the Glas). Its an NME hype band I'm afraid, but hopefully they'll have legs enough to outrun the hype and the notorious NME kiss of death. Actually they are double jinxed because they are being promoted by Alan McGees magical shit finger that's turned everything its touched to shit since the last [...]

Before Phil Spector went insane and shot a woman at point blank (and subsequently became the subject of Mark's Halloween costume ), he was the "Tycoon of Teen". Glasgow's Glasvegas draw influence from Phil Spector as many musicians do, but in a way so overt that the band could almost be viewed as a hysterical fanclub, veering creepily into territory reserved for Elvis impersonators and delusional lounge lizard stepmoms. What saves them is their lush wall of sound, haunting refrains about death, heartbreak, and abandonment, and unavoidably Scottish brogues. If you take nostalgic Americana and export it to post-JAMC [...]

Alan McGee , one of the most influential men in the history of independent music, the man who created Creation , brought the world Oasis and Primal Scream and was bass player with the sadly missed (well by this Devil at least) The Laughing Apple (and I have their excellent 'Ha Ha Hee Hee Ep' and single ' Participate ' in my collection to prove my credentials!) , has posted a stream of consciousness critique of the modern music scene which I'm sure will strike a [...]

Yeah, I know, I've shoved this lot down your throat one too many times already. Well, get used to it, 'cause chances are that we may just be getting started. Especially if James Allan and the Glasvegas crew keep cranking out gems like "It's My Own Cheating Heart That Makes Me Cry". i tally up tonight strangers and stragglers that i've kissed training ground notches, perfectly executed notches, and near misses it's all about going out and getting pissed with eagle eyes and sincerity [...]

Daestro - Darkwater Byu Daestro is an indie rock/electronica band out of Detroit with one band member, Randy Chabot, that plays synths, drums, piano and sings as well. This is fairly dense music with overlaying vocals. This sounds more like a full band than one person doing all the production and instruments. There is some nice synth action on this track along with dreamy vocals, and it is no surprise that his first three influences listed are Mewithoutyou, M83 and ladytron, because it basically sounds like the perfect mix of these three bands. [...]

I first mentioned these geniuses and this genius of a song nearly nine months ago. Now, the band have finally made the tune available for download from their website. It's a love song set on the seaside. Couldn't ask for anything more 50s and more classic. This is honestly my favorite band in the world right now. I can't wait for their debut. Glasvegas - " The Prettiest Thing On Saltcoats Beach ". Website . [...]

Let it be known that if there is any band that deserves to dominate 2007, it's Glasvegas . I've written gushingly about them before and hope you took my advice at the time. Now, fortunately, they have blessed us with a clutch of quality "Home Tapes" demos. Originally available on their Myspace page, you can download them here as well (lest they disappear there). On an impersonal note (and to convince you of their greatness), here are the ingredients: 1 - Singer/Songwriter James Allen has the talent, looks, and swagger of [...]
