The Hunger Games saga is one that is expected to rule the movie theaters. Which means, since the majority of the audience at the movies will be younger, us older peoples get sucked in by the film's soundtrack. Hey, it worked with Twilight so why not this? Down below, you can check out a brand new track from the Decemberists that will appear on The Hunger Games soundtrack called "One Engine." In addition to the Decemberists, artists including Arcade Fire, The Low Anthem, The Civil Wars, Neko Case, Glen [...]

Really nice new song from Glen Hansard . It's apparently modeled on (with Paddy's blessing) the also-excellent "Sweet Suburban Sky" by Paddy Casey. You can check out both songs below.

The Pearl Jam frontman is going it alone this spring.

Photo by Heather Kaplan Remember Ukulele Songs from last year? Eddie Vedder still does. This Spring, the Pearl Jam frontman returns to the road for another solo jaunt, supporting last year's ukulele-laden LP. As Billboard reports , the 13-date tour surrounds his appearance at this year's New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival , where he'll perform during the festival's second weekend on May 3rd. Glen Hansard offers support, and select dates are currently on-sale at Pearl Jam's Ten Club . Peep [...]

The Orchard is Michael Brunnock's second album and is set to be released in February. The Orchard is an album of great depth, strong big themes, amazing vocals and most importantly it is a collection of wonderfully crafted songs. I've been very fortunate to be in the company of Michael's album since November and it was the soundtrack of my Christmas together with Marc O'Reilly's debut and the Jukebox Gypsy live album. The thirteen songs are [...]
The two Irish musicians hit the streets for charity.

One second. Sometimes that's all a photographer gets - and hardly in ideal conditions. At worst (and most likely), a photographer may be squeezed between 15 others in the pit, mere feet away from pyrotechnics, finding support from stress-rattled knees, while focusing on a spastic frontman and sheltering oneself from a downpour, which may or may not involve a hailstorm. Truth: A great photographer handles the unenviable task of capturing that one moment everyone goes home thinking about. Half-truth: There's probably a statistic somewhere that discusses what the job does to the heart. If not, there should be a study. Double-truth: [...]
Once: A New Musical As I reported back in January, a musical of the movie Once was being planned for a Fall 2011 debut on Broadway. Well, it's now officially fall, (almost Winter, I suppose), and the Once musical is, in fact, currently playing in our fair city pretty much as originally promised. The reason for my slight equivocation in that last sentence is that Once did not make a splashy debut on the Great White Way, but rather an inauspicious one [...]

Impressario Michael Dorf has put together a benefit concert in New York City each and every year since 2006 that feature some of our favorite artists paying tribute to legendary performers such as Neil Young, Elton John and Joni Mitchell. Today we found out that the next year's concert will be a Rolling Stones tribute that will be held at Carnegie Hall on March 13. All in all, 21 artists will perform 21 songs from Hot Rocks 1964-1971, a greatest hits album put out by ABKCO Records in 1971. For [...]

RARITIES, B-SIDES & OTHER STUFF: A feature paying tribute to rare songs, great b-sides, fantastic covers and bonus tracks, or anything else that catches my eye, or my ear rather. Currently taking a brief break from collaborating with The Frames ' Glen Hansard as one half of music project The [...]

Here's a nice video of the closing track 'The Auld Triangle' from the Other Voices crew who invaded NYC last week and got unbelievably good coverage from press over there and here, here and here! Is the world beginning to believe what we know ..... if you want passion, entertainment and great songs you've got to go Irish? Did you notice Damien Rice's new look to the left of the stage in this clip? Photo credit: [...]
Life imitating art? Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova starred in the movie Once and while that was a fictitious tale of an older street busker and a younger musician, it was an intimate look into a real life love affair. Hansard and Irglova were then thrust into the public spotlight - maybe not as much as Hollywood couples - but even my mom knew who the couple was and followed their fairytale story. Apparently a documentary was filmed as the two - calling themselves [...]

photos by Toby Tenenbaum , words by Rachel Kowal Glen Hansard, Sharon Van Etten, a Dessner Other Voices , an annual musical festival held in Dingle, Ireland, may not be nearly as old as the town's pubs, but it has already become a rich, meaningful tradition since its inception in 2002. Though typically held in a tiny church, Other Voices jumped across the Atlantic and landed in [...]
Filed under: News , Spinner Interview , New Music Sion Fullana Marketa Irglova was just 19 years old when she was cast as the 'Girl' with mousy hair and a timid singing voice in a low-budget indie film called ' Once .' Four years later, the now 23-year-old has chopped off her blonde locks, and departed (for now) from the Swell Season and bandmate/co-star Glen Hansard to record her debut solo [...]
