Bloggy Goodness: The Avetts Go Live

The Avett Brothers have been on a seemingly non-stop tour ever since releasing the critically acclaimed I And Love And You last September. So it really should come as no surprise that the North Carolina-based act's next release will come in the form of a live album, which will be simply titled Live, Volume 3 . The 16-track album, which will also be released on DVD , was recorded at a hometown gig at the Bojangles Coliseum in Charlotte on Aug. 8 of last year and features [...]

Album Review: Seán Kangataran - Self-titled

Album Review: Seán Kangataran - Self-titled A hugely enjoyable debut album from Galwegian Seán Kangataran. It's a singer-songwriter album with global appeal. Easily one of the best albums of the year. When I haven't written a review on the blog for a few days it's usually because I'm really enjoying the next album I'm about to write about. It's a nice perk to the blog when a talented songwriter approaches me to write a review. I get to be one of the first batch of people to have heard the [...]

The Swell Season Announce Hiatus

The Swell Season Announce Hiatus This past week has been incredibly tough for Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova of The Swell Season. Following the sad news, in which a fan, identified as Michael Pickels, committed suicide by jumping from a balcony on to the stage during their show in Saratoga Winery, the Academy Award-winning pair have announced that they're going on hiatus. It appears that the decision to split is unrelated to the Saratoga tragedy, and the duo will finish out the remainder of their European fall tour dates. Hansard told Spinner.com that he and Irglova are going their [...]

Phenomenal Video Saturday: The Swell Season covers Neutral Milk Hotel

The Swell Season - Two-Headed Boy
I've been a fan of the A.V. Club Undercover series for months now, and I feel like it hasn't really caught on like it should, considering the incredible quality of a couple of entries. The premise is some artist or band comes in to the publication's office and covers another song they chose from a predetermined list. Previous awesome covers included Ted Leo & The Pharmacists covering Tears for Fears , Frightened Rabbit's Scott Hutchison doing The Lemonheads , and The Clientele's twee re-imagining of M.I.A.'s hit "Paper Planes." But this [...]

The Swell Season covers Neutral Milk Hotel If you haven't heard much of the AV Club's Undercover series, you're an idiot . Ha, just kidding.
