Originally, the podcast and Ninebullets Radio were supposed to (mostly) feature different songs. Then, I was asked to do an extra hour on the show at the last minute and the two ended up being extremely similar track listings. Sorry about that but look at it like this; in a week the archive of the radio show will be gone forever but the podcast is available (for better or worse) forever. The Episode 24 podcast will ring out 2011 here on ninebullets. In preparation for this show I literally (yes, I am properly using [...]
First I want to say that this was one of the hardest top lists I have ever done. Some of these don't deserve to be ranked any lower than the ones above them. While I didn't write as prolifically this year as I did others what I wrote about I really and truly loved. And then the other folks 'round these parts wrote about good stuff too. But the end of the year breeds top lists so I have been struggling for the past couple of weeks to actually rank these albums. I honestly will be doing some of these [...]
well, here it is the unofficial captains dead top 14 of the year list. i say unofficial because as there are a few more contributors lurking about, they may have their own top whatever list, and i hope they share said list with the class. not much has changed since i did my premature list back a few months ago. at least in the top 5/6 department. i went through the site and re-listened to everything i had tagged as "best of 20113 and after listening to these records, some changes definitely needed to be made. most notably the inclusion [...]
I clicked through to this video on Facebook without even realizing that our buddy Josh Massie shot it, which makes me love it even more. The formidable Austin Lucas performs "Thunder Rail" (from this year's A New Home In the Old Country which is a really good album) with Glossary rocking it as a backing band live in Austin, Texas.
I've been going to see Lucero for years. I've been to rowdy shows, calm shows, crowded shows, empty shows, and sloppy shows (my favorites, to be honest). I've been to shows where the openers were people I'd never heard of, and I've been to others with openers the likes of Amy LaVere, Cedric Burnside and Lightnin' Malcolm, Cory Branan, Drag the River, and Frank Turner, just to name a few. I've been to shows I can't remember, and I've been to shows I'll never forget. With Austin Lucas and Glossary [...]

Some of our most favorite southern rock 'n' rollers out of Murfreesboro, Glossary , release their seventh full-length today via Last Chance Records and This Is American Music . Titled Long Live All of Us , it's an upbeat little southern rock record, dolled up with lots of keys and pedal steel. And it kicks ass. Stay tuned for a review, and below, check out bassist Bingham Barnes in one of several trailers for the record. Watch out for Nashville showdates at Mercy Lounge Nov. 18 and 19.
It's said that a picture is worth 1000 words. If we accept that as fact, then what is a video worth? Could a simple 60 second video count as a review for an album? And if so, could a band review their own album with a 60 second video? I wondered all of this as I pondered what I was going to write about Glossary's new album, Long Live All Of Us . It's easy to write about an album. Describe the sound, toss out a few comparison bands, throw in a cliche or two [...]

CHARLES HALE'S 10 RECORDS THAT MADE 2011 TOLERABLE, ETC.
11. William Elliot Whitmore-Field Songs : Songs about working and struggling and grasping to the only piece of fucking dirt that yours and some SOB trying to cheat you out of it. Thanks WEW. I'm taking bullshit handyman work over the winter just so I can afford to eat Burger King and drink a couple of Miller High Lifes every once in a while, so I'm a disciple of these songs. I wonder what the farmers in Iowa do in the wintertime to survive. Is the suicide rate higher then? He's singing about [...]

9b IS DOWN WITH O.P.P. (OTHER PEOPLE'S POSTS):
Forgive me for slacking. It had been my intention to provide these posts more often than they have appeared but things like taking my dog to the dog park and watching The Rachel Maddow Show have kept me from compiling links. But here you go. We posted a bunch of new Lucero songs not too long ago and here is an excellent interview with Ben Nichols where he discusses the new album Women & Work . Thanks No Depression . There are several videos on youtube of Glossary playing [...]

9B WEEK IN REVIEW:
Another week, another week in review. Sorry for getting this up so late. It's been an awesomely busy weekend but now I am sitting on my butt watching the Buccaneers game so let's get to reviewing: Scott H. Biram's new album, Bad Ingredients , has come out. We may not have reviewed it yet but we did post the new video and recommend that you buy the cd . I officially named the Worst Song On Pop Country Radio . That's [...]
Glossary Presents Long Live All Of Us Cinema
Y'all should know how much I love Glossary . I've posted about the band several times ( click here to visit all Glossary-related posts) and last week they released their outstanding new album, Long Live All Of Us . However, preceding said release were a pair of video trailers you may not have seen. Allow me to rectify that for you. Ladies and gents, you may know them for their soulful brand of southern roots-rock, but you probably didn't know that [...]
