mp3: Gobble Gobble - Lawn Knives Just had this delightful number sent to me from San Fran by way of Canada's Gobble Gobble by way of the interwebs. Here's a new single from them, self-described as "noodly math rock meets the 80s ballad, in an oven of mo-fi." Baked at 375 for 12-15 minutes, the finished product is full of distorted 8-bit flourishes but is way too 'alive' to be 'digital.' Give it a listen and head over to their MySpace [...]

Land of Talk - "Sixteen Asterisk" "Who tore the paper?" asks Lara Wright, standing at the front of the class. They watch her and say nothing. "Didn't you hear me? Which one of you tore my paper?" She lifts it from her desk, bedraggled, crumpled and ripped in two places. "It didn't just tear itself," she says, mouth crooked. There's a funny glassiness to her eyes, something the class hadn't ever seen before. There are spots of flush in her cheek. "Nobody in all of 4-2 saw who tore this paper while I was outside with Mr [...]

I've been slacking with my Pop Montreal update. In all honesty it got way to hard to keep up with while trying to keep up with the festival and shoot as much footage as I could. I also stuck with a handicapped macbook (the generation) where Apple decided to not include a firewire and I havn't been able to load any of the glorious footage we shot. Not to fret it will come. One of my fave bands we met were the Silly Kissers. We posted a song of by them and were contacted [...]

It's another mailbag style post, but this is more because of the sheer amount of awesomeness that was sent our way over the last couple of days. Three artists we've covered a lot on the hill all hit us off with some news within 24 hours, so it makes sense to deliver the news to you good readers. First off, our good friend Michael – aka These Hands – is premiering his new LP exclusively on herohill. Home is Everywhere is a long time in the making, or [...]

Gobble Gobble come out of Edmonton in Canada, part of a small but apparently quite determined experimental music community down there under the Hydeaway umbrealla who seem to be doing some very good things. I was sent a CD sampler by this group a while ago, and it was interesting - it certainly showed that there seems to be a good bit of collective energy forming in that part of the world. Cecil Frena, who sent me this, has assembled an eclectic and fascinating album of scratchy electronica which casts its blanket of crackling subversion over a few [...]

Yesterday's grab bag was so much fun... I thought, why not do it again? You skeptics might see this as summer laziness kicking in, but really it's just that the sheer volume of music is overwhelming (especially when you are constantly searching for fresh weather metaphors or obscure 80's rap references to gussy up the reviews). Anyway, here are two records that I've been enjoying. Gobble Gobble - Neon Graveyard I don't know anything about Gobble Gobble – aka Cecil Frena [...]
