Halloween is one of my favorite holidays, if only because it gives me an excuse to sit down with a bowl of candy and watch Horror movies all month . I like to spend Halloween night proper taking in as many flicks as possible, but since I have the displeasure of having to work Halloween night, I'm going to try and pass along some of the fun to you, with a massive 26 song Halloween pile-up. They aren't in any particular order -- that's for you to decide -- but I think you'll find some new [...]

RIZ ORTOLANI AND SOME ESSENTIAL DEEP RED THEMES. Video Nasties which have lost their bite, while their scores continue to make the cut. Continuing in the Italian vein, the hysteria surrounding many of the independent movies marketed on the back of the burgeoning video boom in the early 1980s led to legislation in the UK effectively outlawing a long list of titles in 1984. A good many of these low-budget films were produced in Italy and lacked the financial backing to secure mainstream [...]
This week I'm going to highlight 6 great, hard-to-find songs from old, vintage horror/grindhouse movies. The great thing about movies from the late 70's and early 80's is the great disco and synth pop that came with. These songs I picked are pretty much some of the best 70's and 80's songs you'll ever hear. You're in luck because now they're all on this one page for you to download. A big thanks to my Christian and his latest Netflix obsession with old Italian horror, exploitation films and other grindhouse movies. I [...]

Quiet Village Project: Pillow Talk Getting pumped for the new Quiet Village album which will be available in CD format on May 13. The track above is an edit of "Voyager" by the Alan Parsons Project , of course, although our friends at I Spy Diamonds have noted that it also sounds a lot like this song "Patrick", by Goblin . Truth is stranger than fiction.

This is a somewhat obscure genre. As an introduction, these two tracks give a terrific taste of the German aesthetic having been applied to disco. The first track by Ganymed is essentially a cover of Cerrone's Supernature (even including a weak version of Sweet Drums in the breakdown), but filled with amazing cosmic sounds and a story about aliens coming to Earth and changing the human race to be like themselves. There is a demonic voice juxtaposed with a sultry insincere female voice it makes for a rather unconvincing argument for them to [...]

As you might've read , Justice recently had a mix rejected by the folks at London's Fabric . Justice's mix was composed of " mainly weird disco tracks and French novelty acts ," but Fabric turned it down, because, according to Justice, " they weren't ready for something like this ." That's one theory, although I suspect it has something to do with the insane royalties Fabric would have to pay to clear all of that obscure shit. Anyway, Justice's mix actually looks pretty cool , and hopefully we'll get to hear it in its [...]
This place is about surprises, aliens stranded in the white beach of the Hawaiian islands decide to throw a party under the umbrella of a neon reticule powered by the last functioning lasers protruding from the silvery hull of their crashed spaceship, it might sound a tad strange to some ...

Regular readers know the drill: November is the month where I strive to post 2 songs for every day in the month. That doesn't mean I'll be on here on a daily basis, but I will be holding to that rule, regardless of whether I post 2 times or 20 times this month (looking at my post history, let's just be honest and say it'll probably be closer to 2 than 20). I might focus on one artist one day, and a whole assemblage of tracks the next. There's not really a lot of rhyme or reason [...]
Goblin - Tenebre (Main Theme) [1982] Goblin are the sound of Italian horror films. I watch a lot of the genre and yesterday while fixing up after a birthday hangover, I popped in Italian horror legend Dario Argento's Tenebre . Everything about it is good, but our focus here is music and I was reminded that I need to do proper tribute to Goblin's excellence. To start, some might not know Goblin's name, but might recognize their impact on contemporary electronic music in the form of Justice's Phan†om, which [...]

goblin - suspiria (mp3) we've spoken at length about our love for new york wonderkids rvng , and were lucky enough to be sent a copy of their latest addition to the 'i get rvng' mix series, put together by delectable nyc party queen justine d . optimo's twitch mans the desk and makes sure that the lights aren't going into the red too much, leaving justine free to put together one of the strangest mixes we've heard since the my gran did that speed garage tape back in 1998. Italian progressive rockers Goblin created many film scores during the late 70s and early 80s for Italian schlockmeister Dario Argento, but their magnum opus is the score for George Romero's epic B-Movie masterpiece Dawn of The Dead , and this is the best track from that score. Film music often uses a fast tempo when accompanying a chase or when trying to be scary, but "L'alba Dei Mori Viventi" has the ghastly slow dragging tempo of a nightmare, perfectly mirroring the relentless onslaught of the zombies themselves, and crowned with a drunken, spinning-out-of-control ascending synth melody that [...]
So Justice's "Phantom" has slammed into the blogosphere (hate. that. word.) like a crucifix-shaped comet covered in white fire shot forth from the Hell that exists on Mars. Though I am sure you... image by Mi-Zo Do you like disco? We like disco, and for some reason we've gotten stuck in this techno thing (we love you, techno, we'll never leave you, even after you bless us with tinnitus and we're too sore and old to dance... speaking of which, I can tell you from experience that if you ever want to know what it's like to be too old and sore to dance, all you have to do is find a 20 foot long strip of artificial snow, preferably compacted to an 8 inch [...]
