When we last checked in with Ben Kweller , the singer-songwriter had recently released his fourth studio album, the country-tinged Changing Horses . The ATO recording artist , whose next album - Go Fly A Kite - is said to be a return to his pop-rock sound, has lined up a late fall club tour that includes three New York City-area performances in his former longtime adopted hometown - with a gig at Maxwell's in Hoboken, NJ on November 17 and an early and late show at the recently opened Rock Shop in [...]

Eva Vermandel At first, no one even believed it was happening. Apocalyptic Montreal post-rock godheads Godspeed You! Black Emperor , basically inactive since touring behind 20022s Yanqui u.x.o. ceased and presumed defunct, out of nowhere announced they were reconvening to curate an All Tomorrow's Parties in the UK in December 2010. And in typically cryptic Godspeed fashion, the accompanying press release mentioned that there would be additional dates in the UK and Europe and "9 American towns" but offered no further details. Of [...]

It's been long in the making but Halves ' debut long player titled It Goes, It Goes (Forever & Ever) will finally be with us on October 29th on CD and Deluxe gatefold vinyl (with free mp3 download). 'Darling, You'll Meet Your Maker' is the first free download from the album and its rich artful instrumentation sums up Halves' modus operandi perfectly. It Goes, It Goes (Forever & Ever) was recorded in Godspeed You! Black Emperor's studios Hotel2Tango in Montreal with Efrim Menuck in August of 2009. 11 songs were recorded [...]
Ever since Godspeed announced their return to live performance earlier this year I have been waiting/hoping for a show to be announced in Vancouver. Thankfully, this week GY!BE announced a North American tour for early next year which sees the band hitting theatres all over the place. The essential details for Vancouverites: GY!BE @ Vogue Theatre - February 16, 2011 It seems as though Sealed With A Kiss will be presenting the show but there's no word there or on the Vogue's website on ticket details [...]

Tonight I'm going to see Superchunk in Manhattan for the first of three shows in the area. They are also playing in Brooklyn tomorrow night and Philly on Wednesday (and an acoustic show at Other Music Sunday afternoon). I probably should have booked a room in NYC and stayed over for all three shows but while I have more money now than I had a decade ago (the last time I saw Superchunk live), I don't quite have the time. I'll definitely try to make it to Philly on Wednesday, barring work responsibilities, which is another aspect of [...]

Feel free to comment if you haven't already by now. - We're also throwing an awesome after party for Titus Andronicus [...]

Gonna hang in Chicago... because Godspeed You Black Emperor is playing two night at The Metro - Friday March 26th and Saturday March 27th. Other dates: 02.17 Seattle, WA: Showbox at the Market 02.18 Portland, OR: Crystal Ballroom 02.20 San Francisco, CA: Great American Music Hall 02.21 San Francisco, CA: Great American Music Hall [...]
:: Faith No More is playing its last reunion tour show in Chile. :: You'd think a John Lennon 70th birthday tribute would be able to nab acts bigger than Patti Smith and Cyndi Lauper . :: Kirk Hammett says he hates the rest of the Metallica dudes... but he loves them, too. :: Godspeed You! It was only a matter of time before Godspeed You! Black Emperor decided to make a comeback. That time was after midnight last night while I was all snuggled up in bed. Consequence of Sound reports that after playing shows in Europe, including the ATP Nightmare Before Christmas in the UK, they'll bring their sound to North American shores in 2011. Their first show will be on February 16th in Vancouver, BC and they'll finish up on March 29th in Detroit. The tour will include stops [...]

Good news for those holding out hope that Godspeed You! Black Emperor would announce some North American tour dates... they just did! After playing ATP's Nightmare Before Christmas and a bunch of other UK locales in December, the iconic Canadian outfit will hit our shores next February. After conquering the west coast and then taking a short breather, the band will play the east coast in mid-March - and yes, a stop at New York's loudest venue is included - before concluding their travels in Detroit on March 29th. This post cannot be rushed. I first reviewed Model Warship 's gig when he opened for Zola Jesus in Leeds but now is not the right time to reminisce. Michael came bearing gifts a few days ago, gifts that cannot be refused and must be presented. I've got this beautiful track that I really like, off his 2nd full length self-release, Capsules . I like the gleaming melancholia of his tracks, the way the guitar speaks louder than the words itself, less the drunken self-pityingness of Tim Kasher in The Goodlife even [...]
Post-rock's expansion in the 90s as textured instrumental pieces that borrow from jazz fusion and 80s electronica (thanks to later efforts from Slint, Talk Talk, and Tortoise), seemed to take a term for the epic right around the turn of the century. In retrospect, Godspeed You! Black Emperor was more a reflection of the darker days to come in the naughty aughts. Its apocalyptic builds and morbid themes couldn't have fit more congruently with life in 2000-2002, their formative recording years. As we forge ahead into the teens, I sure could use a little more Godspeed in my [...]

Kanadalaisen Godspeed You! Black Emperorin paluukiertue saapuu ensi vuoden alussa Suomeen. Post-rockia, taidemusiikkia, punkia ja vaihtoehtorockia yhdistelevä suursuosikki nähdään Helsingin Kulttuuritalolla 17. tammikuuta 2011. Vuonna 1994 Montrealissa perustettu Godspeed You! Black Emperor on koko post-rock-genren merkittävin yhtye, ja kanadalaiskokoonpano onkin toiminut esikuvana kymmenille lajityyppinsä bändeille Sigur Rosista Mogwaihin ja Magyar Possesta Explosions in the Sky:hin. Uransa alusta lähtien Godspeed You! Black Emperor on ollut lukuisia miehistönmuutoksia kokenut kollektiivi, [...]
