In a way, the weather at the 2011 North Coast Music Festival was like a microcosm of Chicago's whole summer. First it was super hot, then it was rainy, and finally, on the last day, it was just right. Tomorrow we head down to the first Wilderness Festival , taking place on our back door in the beautiful Cornbury Park Estate. Previously this lovely venue has hosted the Cornbury Festival, which has thankfully now moved elsewhere as (trust us) it has the worse possible line-up you could ever imagine for an event of this type. Bassnectar has become a fearsome presence these past few years. There is something truly indelible about George Wein's Newport Folk Festival . You walk the grounds and you walk through history; my father walked these Newport streets in 1965 to hear Bob Dylan plug in (the venue was different, but the streets were the same). The main stage looks out from Fort Adams State Park at the Pell Bridge stretching over glistening Newport Harbor with its fleet of sailboats, kayaks, and yachts, perfection in the setting sun.
