Grab yourself a tankard of beer, put on your stomping shoes, grow a moustache if you can manage it, and be prepared to go "Hai, hai!" repeatedly, whilst spinning around and around with everyone in the room. I'll spare you the details of the band's history and get right on with it. Dear Tommypop , Samwise and I were making love to a beautiful bottle or two of wine the odd weekend ago, when Tommypop decided to unveil the glorious fun that is Gogol Bordello to us. Gypsy folk-punk. [...]
DOWNLOAD: Paul Wing - Pan the Piper (completely unrelated MP3) I just thought I'd talk about some movies movies I've seen recently... PAN'S LABYRINTH Guillermo Del Toro 's Pan's Labyrinth is the one movie that I'd say you should definitely go see...unless you're easily traumatized by violence, or you can't read (the movie has English subtitles). See it on the big screen (if you can find it [...]

Rock Dot Rock - You Are You Black Lips - Not A Problem The Flaming Lips - Fight Test Gogol Bordello - Start Wearing Purple Placebo - Protege Moi/Protect Me From What I Want The Arcade Fire - Cold Wind

i guess i need to update my blog, because apparently now there is "old blogger" and "new blogger" and i didn't even know. there is also a new blog show up today , which you should go listen to, because we play depressing christmas songs and some other really good music. next week we talk smack about Sufjan (oh SNAP, as Rachael would say). but you will just have to wait for that one... anyways, this week I went to the Spin "year in music" party, which was kicked off by a performance by Girl Talk [...]

Chicago: Gogol Bordello are playing the Metro on Friday, December 15. Get tickets here . It took me a while to get into Gogol Bordello. The first couple times I heard them, it was just too weird for me. (Actually, I introduced them to a few friends lately, and they had the same reaction.) But, they grew on me. Their latest album ( Gypsy Punks Underdog World Strike , which came out about a year ago) is an energetic mix of gypsy and punk fueled by frontman Eugene Hutz's [...]
Back in September I hung out with Giant Bear after one of their shows and soon after I think I became their number one fan. They invited me to come on the road with them to Midpoint Festival in Cincinnatti. It was a weekend filled with way too much drinking, camping in the rain, hangovers, crashing other bands' green rooms, more drinking and about 16 hours in a van with 7 people. Did I mention it was the great? We bonded, we spooned, we acted ridiculous. But how was the show, you ask? [...]
Big Day Out looks crap (although the later announcements did help), Laneway looks to be an indie dream, and now we have the lineups arriving for not one, not two, but three more festivals in the next couple days. First up, the East Coast Blues and Roots Festival in Byron Bay will be taking place from April 5-9 and organizers have announced the first batch of bands. And while there isn't a whole lot here to get me excited, it does look like a fairly hefty lineup including Wolfmother, Dave Matthews, Ben Harper, [...]
December is always a bit of a hectic month. Lots of Christmas shopping, parties, and the like, plus the year end specials, lists, New Year's parties. One year I drank every day of December because there was just too much going on. I don't think I'm going to match that this year but it's going to be close. There are some damn fine shows in December as well so that should clot the schedule even further. Here's what I'm looking forward to so far. What are you looking forward to? Free Shows (err show, what's up where's all [...]
Eugene's famous party moved to Club Midway (Scenic) last week. This seems like a good place for a party like this. MP3: The Last Wish Of The Bride (J.U.F.)
I went a little overboard on this one, kids. Fourteen songs! But that's nothing, really; when I was first making up the playlist, there were forty! In the singing-in-front-of-my-mirror category: Cabaret - Don't Tell Mama . I am Sally Bowles when I sing this song. Not only do I belt it out in front of my mirror when no one's watching or listening; I have also been known to sing it at karaoke. It's kind of impossible to listen to this song without wanting to buy yourself a pair [...]

The Reading Festival always want to be an international event, and nothing goes round the world like an emo kid being slapped in the head with a bottle: Brendan Urie's injury got covered by sources as far-flung as Conneticut-based Starpulse , Austria's Pressemitteilung service. Totally Loveable was in the crowd when it happened, and she wasn't impressed: anyways i stood over at the side waiting for them to come on and when they did i was dead excited.. anyways they started off amazin Brendon is just soo fine [...]
Finally dragged my tail to JELLYNYC’s series of free Sunday Pool Parties in McCarren Park â€" the reasons I’d missed the previous five (!) weeks are too numerous and pathetic to mention â€" and these shows really are a sort of gif
