Damn, METALLICA sure knows how to pick opening acts lately. Gone are the days when such rock radio mainstays as GODSMACK and LIMP BIZKIT would be asked to open for the band. Now, the grandpa thrashers are actually picking really talented acts who I honestly would be more interested in seeing than METALLICA themselves. Already [...]
When we saw In Flames tour with Gojira last year, there ended up being a kind of major problem: the Frogs blew the Swedes off the stage. See, as much as I love In Flames, their set was kind of A Sense of Purpose-heavy, and, well, they just couldn't match Gojira for sheer goose-bump-inducingness. Now the [...]
It's raining in New York today. AGAIN. At least it's warm; it's been fucking rainy and cold for all of June (seriously... hoodie weather in June??). I feel like I've been cheated out of an entire month of summer. Fuck the world. Here's what happened this week: More arguing ensued over our 21 Best Metal Albums of [...]
SPECIAL GUEST BLOGGER D.X. FERRIS, AUTHOR OF 33 1/13: SLAYER'S REIGN IN BLOOD We recently polled a wide array of musicians, managers, publicists, label reps, and writers from within the world of metal to find out what they thought the 21 Best Metal Albums of the 21st Century So Far have been. Eligible albums were released [...]

The shows cropped up fast as Memorial day approached, cascading on top of each other like the hairs of a vigorously headbanged coif. Instead of trying to keep pace, I bode my time. Now, feast on these reviews, covering the last couple weeks of heavy, condensed and combined into an omnibus post, richly suffused with the connective tissue of metaphor and theme. We reported a few months back that the doomy and droning French extreme metallic unit END. had signed with Metal Blade and that they had a new album in the works. All of that is true. So true, in fact, that you can now pre-order the album from Eryn Non Dae's official web and MySpace pages. Joining us this week, we were lucky enough to track down guitarist, Franck, and entice him with a comfy seat on the red leather couch. Little did he know that he was the latest victim for our Sunday Conversation piece, and I don't think [...]

I must have had a more troubled childhood than I can remember. I mean, what else would explain this absolute fascination with anything and all things metal? Well, metal and coffee, but we'll get to the coffee at a later date. At one point in my life, I thought that the more complex the music the better, but then I realized that just because something is complex doesn't necessarily mean that it's good. Complexity for the sake of complexity tends to lose the soul, and without the soul you've got no groove and, therefore, nothing to really shake your ass [...]
When I read that Repulsion, Pig Destroyer and Brutal Truth are all playing a show together at the Brooklyn Masonic Templeon July 31, my head literally exploded. I don't mean "literally" the way some people misuse that word; I mean I am actually typing this right now sans melon. Pretty crazy, I know. But totally warranted. [...]

Normally I would write a review for every show that I attend, but this week I'm just too jam-packed with finals and post-final celebrations to get my head right and properly give praise to the un-fucking-believable Gojira show (w/ The Chariot and Car Bomb) that I saw on Monday. However, for any doubters, I just want to set one thing straight - Gojira fucking rules. Period. The band is on fire, playing a first-ever headlining tour in North America that finally brings their entire exceptional back catalog to virgin ears in the U.S., and they couldn't have been [...]
... Metal Injection has three decent-quality live videos of the band performing in Springfield, VA on May 1st. The videos don't *quite* capture the dick-hardening rush of actually being at the best show we've seen all year, but they come damn close. Here's a clip of both "Oroborus" and "The Heaviest Matter In The Universe," [...]

The Chariot is a band that seems to have gotten the short end of the stick during the last few years. Mostly because he left Norma Jean right before they really started to go downhill, I don't think Josh Scogin's The Chariot has ever really gotten the kudos they deserve for the freeform, peerless, raucous punk-n-metal noise that they create. Somehow the crappiness of latter NJ releases unfortunately tended to overshadow the consistenly awesome output that Scogin's new band contrbuted to the music world, but hopefully some of that will start to change. Landing on the music [...]
It's Friday, and it's nice out. I'ma go have a whiskey. Booze and drugs make you look cool and get lots of pussy... it's true. Here's what happened this week that made us batty enough to turn to the dark side: We got sick of metal bands doing ironic pop cover songs just in time for a [...]
Wednesday night, for the first time in my life, I shot a show where I was scared shit out of my pants while standing between the barricade and the stage. In other words, The Chariot scared the shit out of me. No blood. No fire. Just 5 dudes with menacing rage. But, once Gojira took over [...]
To celebrate the release of their new record Wars and Rumors of Wars this past Tuesday, The Chariot have pulled a Trent Reznor and gone above and beyond; of the initial run of 25,000 CD copies, the band have hand-stamped, hand-signed and hand-numbered each and every one. A little extra something to get the fans [...]
I love Gojira. I love them the way Mel Gibson loved that lady he killed all those people for in Braveheart. I love them the way Mel Gibson loved that lady he killed all those people for in Lethal Weapon 2. I love them the way Mel Gibson loved that lady he killed all [...]
Man, I am so pumped to see GOJIRA tomorrow in NYC. MI contributor Metal Nick has made me even more pumped, uploading three killer live videos of the band's performance at Jaxx in Virgina from a few days ago. Nick posted the following three clips (four songs total): Oroborus/ The Heaviest Matter In The [...]
