Sunny pop rockers Gold Motel have launched a social media campaign asking fans to submit Instagram photos that embody the group's music. The band intends to use the photos as artwork on their upcoming self-titled album due out this summer. While Gold Motel was in the midst of assembling artwork for the new album, guitarist Eric Hehr kicked around ideas for how to directly involve fans in the process. Hehr said in an interview with Loud Loop press that the Instagram campaign arose as [...]
Monday Afternoon Quick Fix runs every Monday afternoon to showcase the best of Chicago music news, views and stories from around the interwebs and blogosphere that we might have missed. • With ex-city events programmer Michael Orlove snatched up by the National Endowment for the Arts, 8482s Steve Edwards conducts Orlove's "exit interview." Orlove chats about his beginnings with the Special Events department, back when city events weren't so well-attended, and the importance of collaboration in creating programming, such as World Music Festival. • Consequence of Sound discovers [...]

If you were to ask folks on either coast to describe the Midwest, they'd likely tell you that it consists exclusively of sleepy farm towns and insignificant flyover markets devoid of excitement or character. While to some extent this might be true, major metro areas such as Chicago are a thriving cultural hotbed rich with history, pride, and a desire to share its artistic vision with the rest of the world. With Chicago's musical past deeply rooted in jazz and the blues, the Windy City Sound evolved significantly through much of the 20th Century to include elements of soul, rock, [...]

Whoa-ho-ho, there. Looking to rock out once more time before X-mas day? Here's our abridged Holiday version of Weekend Diversions that'll no doubt bring you yuletide cheer. FRIDAY THE BINGERS They look like such nice young men... is what I assume many grandmothers say about Chicago trio The Bingers due to their penchant for dressing up in suits and ties. Despite all appearances the band has no problem getting down and dirty with super fuzzed-up [...]

Winter, eat your heart out. Austin's annual South by Southwest music festival has been slowly releasing its list of bands traveling to the Lone Star state this Spring and, yes, Chicago is represented. On tap to play the 2012 edition are sunny pop rockers Gold Motel , dancehall DJ Chrissy Murderbot , acoustic folker Musikanto , lo-fi ambient poppers U.S. Girls , and Chicago - by way of Philadelphia - [...]

BAM! Bet you were expecting a Best of 2011 list, yeah? Well I don't got time for that (YET)! No...this is where I acknowledge all the great stuff I missed in 2010. 'Cause it doesn't get any more rock n roll than to talk about shit that's over a year old. Write that down in your How to Be Rock N Roll notebooks. Anyway, the last time I wrote this list , I spent quite a while talking about how there isn't enough time in one year to listen to all the potentially great releases and put [...]
Lolla's 20th anniversary was my sixth straight, having attended every year since it expanded to three days in Chicago's gorgeous Grant Park. In those six years I've had some amazing times, and experienced a mass of great music. It all began in 2006, arriving to The Raconteurs covering Gnarls Barkley's "Crazy," and from then on, I *had* to be there. The next year in 2007, Daft Punk flew in on their pyramid of light, the year after that, Wilco donned their Sgt. Pepper-inspired threads in 2008, heck, I even got to see Lou Reed play "Sweet Jane" in [...]

What a great time Lollapalooza was. Chicago is a really fun city that is definitely worth checking out if you get out there. Below are some highlights and let downs from the weekend. enjoY! ------------ Friday Highlights : Foster The People . They were really fricking good, I didn't know what to expect from their live show considering how crazy popular they are, but they did not let down at all, from beginning to end...dance party. [...]

We're reporting live from Lollapalooza in Chicago! It's always a good idea to hit Grant Park early, as Lollapalooza's most memorable moments are often hidden in the early afternoon sets of up-and-coming artists. We went digging through the line-up to find the most promising prospects for the festival that is known to launch music careers. After all, it was just in 2005 that The Arcade Fire had their break-out afternoon set, and in 2007, Lady Gaga was playing on a small stage. So here are a few artists to catch this year, before they [...]

Lollapalooza is back with a line-up that's full of up-and-coming local acts, legitimate buzz bands, arena rockers and a few head scratchers. So, we here at Loud Loop figured you might need some help deciding which bands to check out and which to avoid. And of course you know the headliners, so we won't waste your time on those. Instead, these are our picks for can't-miss acts those other eight hours this Friday, Saturday and Sunday... FRIDAY, AUGUST 5 [...]
Leave You In Love by GOLD MOTEL Just in time for their Lollapalooza debut, Chicago pop-rockers Gold Motel have released a brand new single that just oozes summertime fun. Titled "Leave You In Love," the new track is chock full of bright and sunny melodies. It opens with a bouncy beat and tight guitar work before unleashing a driving chorus featuring lead singer Greta Morgan's addicting hook of, "Shut it down / Start it up / Didn't mean anything / Didn't mean much." It's quite the fun little romp. Check it out [...]

It's such a great weekend for festivals in Chicago. We've got Taste of Randolph occupying the West Loop with the salivating sounds of British rockers The Heavy and Swervedriver as well as local rockers JC Brooks & The Uptown Sound and The 1900s . Not to mention the three-day birthday bash going on at Saki featuring Great Society Mind Destroyers and much, much more. With so much rock happening there's really no need to wait. Let's get on with the show! [...]
Lollapalooza, the mega fest absorbing Grant Park August 5-7, released its lineup schedule early this morning for all your planning needs. Last year's schedule caused a commotion due to its pitting major headliners against each other. This year's schedule, save for Friday night, does a somewhat better job of spacing out the talent. Naturally there are some odd scheduling choices. Namely legendary new wave rockers The Cars taking the stage at 4 p.m. on Sunday, August 7, but I digress. If you're heading to Lolla hoping [...]

The Office of Tourism announced its musical lineup for the 2011 edition of the Taste of Chicago last Friday. The festival, which is scheduled to run from Friday, June 24, to Sunday, July 3, returns to the Petrillo Music Shell in Grant Park. The biggest names on the festival's main stage are Natalie Cole, Loretta Lynn, The Lemonheads and MaterialReissue. The Illinois Lottery Taste Stage lined up a few local rockers Loud Loop Press readers will recognize: Archie Powell & The Exports, Empires, California Wives, White Mystery and Gold Motel. Taste of [...]

Yes, the lineup has been released , but that doesn't mean there's more to talk about concerning this year's installment of Lollapalooza. First, one interesting little tidbit from the Trib's Greg Kot , is that this year's Lollapalooza will feature an expanded DJ/electronic music area - otherwise known as Perry's Stage. According to Kot, Perry's Stage will be moved west of Columbus Drive, just across from the festival's main stage on the south end of Hutchinson Field. This new Perry's Stage will be tented with a [...]
