JJUUJJUU, DIRT DRESS, AND GOLDEN ANIMALS ON THURSDAY DECEMBER 23RD AT THE CONTINENTAL ROOM, 115 WEST SANTA FE AVENUE, FULLERTON.

Golden Animals seemed to vanish from the Los Angeles landscape as mysteriously as they appeared. The itinerant duo of Tommy Eisner and Linda Beecroft materialized out of the California desert in 2008 with a stellar album of vintage-sounding psychedelic blues titled "Free Your Mind and Win a Pony" — next-gen hippies who were more concerned with their message than playing any industry games. They did a residency at the Silverlake Lounge in 2009 and largely disappeared from L.A.'s radar for more world travels and a stint in New York. They return with a new album, "Hear Eye [...]

We all know that Howlin Rain 's new Rick Rubin-produced album, The Russian Wilds , kicks major ass and Howlin Rain is at their absolute magical best in a live setting, so tonight's show at the Studio at Webster Hall is a big duh! But what makes this show more 'duh' is the amount of talent in all the opening bands too. Like the dudes pictured above (chicks can be dudes too, btw), the Assemble Head in Sunburst Sound . I love their new album, [...]

Sorry if this bums you out but contrary to Spaceland's website, Golden Animals will not be appearing at tonight's show. The band is currently recording a new album so they're busy in the studio. Not sure why it hasn't been updated there but we got the scoop straight from the band.

It looks like it's going to be a white Christmas in our neck of the woods and holiday cheer is in full effect over at Citizen Dick Headquarters. We got your stocking stuffed (or at least John's, he's a good dude, he believes in sharing, though I can't quite make out what's going on in his stocking's picture, Santa seems a tad creepy at second glance) with a brand new song from Quail Lungs and recent tunes from Retribution Gospel Choir , Reading Rainbow , and Beach Fossils . Some tunes that have been around the block [...]

Electric Picnic 09 - Golden Animals Looking like a mixture of Captain Caveman and Francois Hardy, Golden Animals are an unusual proposition. Pounding out primal garage rock, they shatter the serenity of the normally blissed out Body and Soul area, and more than likely melt a few heads. Howling from beyond hell, jagged guitars pummel the audience into submission, whilst the rhythm just keeps on marching on. It's dark, and at times recalls Jim Morrison at his self-mythologizing best, and it's utterly perfect for this time of day. The Body and Soul area perhaps [...]
