If you ever see me in this other world called real life you can sock me for not posting this earlier. Poupon may sound like a new name to you but he's no new face. He's one half of the Toronto duo Golden Gloves , and he's done remixes for his local buddies John Roman and Autoerotique . His first EP Full Time Lovin was released on petFood , a small label fronted by Lazaro Casanova aka JFK 's long lost cousin before he got his hair cut. [...]

In lieu of yesterday's celebration of 420 , my ears have been turned onto Rastafarian music. This weeks Thrashing Thursday will provide a brief history on how dubstep music came to be, as well as some bumpin' tracks with obvious reggae influence in them. But in order to better understand the genre of dubstep, we must first delve into The Origins of Dub. Dub is a subgenre of music which grew out of reggae music in the 19602s. [...]

Hello and a very happy Friday to you all. The summer is rolling right along, and as I write this I can't help but feel a mild shock in realizing that we're already half way through July. Not that I'm complaining, because the faster the summer goes by, the sooner I'll be back in Montreal. There are no major holidays or breaks from work in the next few weeks unfortunately, but I'll still be making the most of my time away from the rigors of student life. I'd also like to apologize for waiting until so late in the day [...]

With close friends like John Roman and Gingy getting love from around the world I have come to look upon Golden Gloves as the underdog. Simply because no one is giving them the looks they deserve. While other Toronto blogs know whats up, the world has yet to give them their due. Last year their remix of Major Lazer made wobble bass more commercial and now with some awesome Klezmer influences they are set to take the House scene by storm. These two original tracks go to show that they've [...]

My favourite Mensch Benny sent over his new Golden GLoves tracks and they're awesome quirky pieces of of really cool tech-house. Drawing on the jewish Klezmer tradition of Eastern Europe Golden Gloves samples some of this funky old dance music to come up with something decidely 21st century .... Its pretty cool even if your only brush with the genre was when papa Mousekewitzes would blast out some accordion for Fievel. I can see this turning a dancefloor on its head harder than Brodinski's Sha Stil track from a few months back. With this [...]
He's back after being hidden in the studio for a few months and we've got these 3 slammers of tracks to pump you up on this dreary day! John Roman hits us with a storming remix of Erols... [[ This is a content summary only. Visit my website for full links, other content, and more! ]]

Biggest Battles Ac Slater @ Social vs. Classixx @ Wrongbar It's the first weekend after everyone has got out of their exams. Students who go to live elsewhere are staying in Toronto for one last weekend, Students who go to school elsewhere are rushing home to avoid another night in a local college town bar. In one corner, Classixx for Wrongbar's 2 year anniversary; in the other, AC Slater for Faktory Saturdays at the Social. These two parties are just down the street from one another. One of The Social's owners [...]

Our good friends over at ElectroTO have gone to work on some cool new initiatives for the holidays. Producing for Presents and Charitable Rave are two very interesting projects. Here is the press release that they sent over. I'm really proud to know these guys as this is definitely a great cause. _____________________ Thursday December 10th, electroTO in association with Heart For The Holidays, will be hosting a "Charitable Rave" at WRONGBAR. All proceeds collected from the evening will go towards The Heart House Hospice, which is a volunteer driven organization which reaches out to families [...]
Romantic isn't a word that really comes to you when you hear John Roman's work. 'Filthy' is probably more accurate along with "blooping madness". Why is this guy unsigned again?! Its the kind of music you want to hear in the deep throws of the night, while you're dancing in a club at 5am blowing [...]

Deebs started playing classical music on the violin at age 5. During highschool he taught himself the guitar and drums and played with a few bands - nothing very serious though. Once university hit he became exposed to the electro scene and was immediately influenced to start producing his own tracks and DJ'ing. He's been producing his own stuff for about a year now and has been DJ'ing for about a year as well at parties and a couple clubs along the way. This summer him and his friend are organizing the "Four to the Floor" parties in Guelph with [...]

Congrats to Zeds Dead on winning the competition. If you remember our last competition's winner Hooks, they are one in the same. Zeds Dead is their new production project and its poised to take off over the course of the summer. Due to the quality of the remixes submitted Intellegenix has decided to release 6 of the 18 remixes as an EP with online distribution. This is very exciting. Anyway make sure to check back for our next competition which will be launching first thing tomorrow morning! Zeds Dead Marvul Torro torro Curtis Wang [...]
Ok the weather in the UK has gone tits today, the suns jacked the groove elsewhere and left us a helleva lot of rain, thunder and lightening. Scary stuff eh? Er no, but it still is muggy as arseholes and I'm sticking to the leather sofa I'm residing on, which is nice! So anyways, its Friday the weekends about to start, and I thought I would stick on a few tunes to let you listen to as it's been a long time since I have done so. As always, with SkippersChippers the formula is there is no formula, so I [...]
I guess I have been browsing the web pretty hard these last few days. One of my favorite things (not so much the caption), is that this picture of Obama has sparked such a response. Honestly I'm not that focused on Obama, I'm more interested in what he's looking at. The thing is, I feel like Michelle Obama is down. I bet her response was "I don't blame you honey, if I was you I would have been looking too!" Either way this shows that maybe Mr. Obama isn't to blame and at the end of the day [...]

Here are four tracks for you to bang you head to: Burns gives White Lies a rave make-over... White Lies - Death (Burns remix) [YSI] Download audio file (WHITE%20LIES%20_DEATH_%20_BUR NS%20REMIX_.mp3) Deux Helix sent me this track, a song based on schizophrenic electronic beats. It is strange but I think you will like it. Deux Helix - Psychosis [YSI] Download audio file (Deux%20Helix%20-%20Psychosis. mp3) [...]

Upcoming producer/DJ "Deebs" has completely won me over with his off the wall remix of Walking with a Ghost . It has only been about a year since he started producing electro music and he has already become a party favorite in his home town London, Ontario. He also recently released another remix "Pick Up The Slack" from the Golden Gloves that is much more synthetic and with a higher level of trippiness. I am also posting a fun song Deebs remixed with the begining lyrics "Is this the real life, Is this [...]

photo: thorinside Some news in case anybody particularly liked Chase & Status' remix of Nneka's "Heartbeat," the track will be released on 24th August - so it looks like you could be in for a long wait if you'd like a copy. Anyway first song up today is by Golden Gloves and is called Casablanca. The song is a really heavy electro song and has some good synths and the thumping bassline, however I have to be honest, I prefer the Barletta remix. It just seems to have a tad [...]

I first met Ben and Kevin when they were playing with Kid Cudi @ West last December. They pumped up the crowd and got everyone singing along while Kid Cudi dropped his lines over The Crookers remix of his own song. Since then I have come to realize that these cats have a lot of potential. They've been playing all the right gigs as residents of Dirty Disko's Thursday night parties @ Up on Carling in London, Ontario. They have had the chance to share the stage with some of Electronic music's biggest names, inluding A-Trak, MSTRKRFT, Bloody [...]

So for those of you who aren't Canadian you might be interested to know that today is Canada Day. Yes - today is the day we celebrate... something to do with Canada, and more about liquor and massive groups of people. So to celebrate at THE DOCKING STATION , we've got two tracks from two Canadian artists based out of Toronto each, Golden Gloves (a DJ duo) and Barletta . 'Casablanca' is a classic post-rave-dub-fidget-wobble track with major potential for movement, with Barletta thickening it up a notch with his remix. [...]

21 year old Dj/Producer Will Diebel has given me a couple of tracks for your listening pleasure. First up is a remix from Toronto's Golden Gloves called Pick Up The Slack a dirty electro/wonky fest with a hint of Switch in there. The second track is Walking With A Ghost with the remixing honours going to Tegan & Sara. Vocal driven electro/pop growler. Check them both out here Pick Up The Slack Walking With A Ghost
