Goldie - Crying Phase Another art/tune combo this time, I've mentioned before Goldie's moved back into graffiti. Back in the day he was involved with Robert Del Naja of Massive Attack, their styles are quite similar now with Goldie adopting stencils into his freehand work as opposed to his old wildstyle tags, though compared to Robert's stuff Goldie definitely has more of a Blek Le Rat vibe going on with his stenciling style. Anyways, enjoy another bit from Goldie's landmark self descriptive debut. Timeless [...]

Goldie remains a huge influence on me, and I was reading up on his film that he's been working on for a long time, Sine Tempus , he's said its a coming-of-age story about a young paintbrush artist, which draws a whole bunch of parallels to Goldie's life. A few years back he released the soundtrack to the film saying it was out 'soon'. That was 2008, and while no film has surfaced the soundtrack will certainly tide me over till then, it's very visually evocative, as is the art for the album. [...]
A couple new posts on Mostly-Retro. First up I got a review of the Astralwerks 20/20 Record Store Day box set (spoiler: it sucks). Then I have part two in my journey down the rabbit hole of Atari "soundtracks" with my look at the Missile Command LP (spoiler: it's dumb). Check them out both and tell all your friends who like awesome reviews of awesome shit about them as well. In case anyone was wondering, I'm feeling a lot better now. The rage and anger from the past few days has passed and I'm [...]

Fracture - 'Better Than Tomorrow' / 'Gangbusters' (METHXX02) Metalheadz have been a bit quiet of late but the last few weeks have seen a small spate of activity with Rufige Kru's Vanilla VIP doing the rounds for free download and a 12” from newly signed album artists Ulterior Motive. All good stuff but this week EDJ favourite, Fracture lends his Midas touch to the label for his debut 12” on the ‘XX’ series of releases that started with Commix’s ‘Double Double’ a couple of years ago. Not sure what the ‘XX’ [...]

Metalheadz at Blue Note I'm sure I don't need to tell you how important the Blue Note (and particularly the weekly Sunday night Metalheadz session held there) was in the history of the music that we love. Not just drum and bass but everything that has derived from it over the years, for good or bad. Whether directly or indirectly, it is still pretty much considered the single most culturally important foundation for modern day drum and bass music culture. OK that culture may have diluted down somewhat over the last few years [...]

Wednesday of Miami Music Week launched with what was promoted as a “We’re All Friends! 8 hours and 8 labels Beach Party” featuring A-Trak , Boys Noize , Skrillex , the electro disco-house sounds of Bromance and more. When a promoter and artist manager e-mails you and asks, “Can I really not tempt you to the pool party tomorrow?” and it’s featured poolside at the lovely South Beach Raleigh Hotel, with this lineup, how could you pass. A 45-minute downpour only added to the intensity of the crowd’s passion especially when it was an all-hands-on-deck moment literally [...]
Goldie has been a massive influence on me in recent times. From his tunes to his art and the philosophy behind it, he's got a little something for every interest of mine. Goldie's been in the music game since 1992, and while his style's changed to fit with the times a bit more, it still has that definite gold tinge to it. Take his new tune from recently released Best Of compilation The Alchemist: The Best of Goldie 1992-2012 , it's got more liquid elements to it than say the cuts from Timeless I put up a [...]
There can't be many people within the history of electronic music that have had such an effect on its path than Goldie . From his early Rufige Cru work (the "Early Plates" album is a must-have) to the formation of the highly respected Metalheadz imprint via the groundbreaking "Timeless" album and far beyond. In recent years he's also revived the Rufige name and continues to release material that skirts around the edges of the mainstream without losing its edge. Rufige Kru - Darkrider [...]

Drum 'n' bass godfather, Goldie has revealed he's working on new projects with some famous names. Speaking to FACT , the dance music veteran told the publication that he has“very busy year” ahead of him, finding himself working with “some very interesting collaborations – Flying Lotus, Photek, Burial”. He continued: "I’ve kind of reinvented myself in that sense, of going back before Timeless … it feels like something’s great about to happen with my own rebirth.” Goldie last released an album in 2009, entitled [...]

UK producer Mekon delves into his love for hip hop in a guest DJ mix.

"Every track emanates a distinct sense of purpose and undeniable creativity. Each track stands out with a distinctive sound, beat, and story...." A$AP Rocky | Long.Love.A$AP Born into a culture of hip hop, Harlem rapper ASAP Rocky reflects the culture in both name and spirit, as he was named after hip hop legend Rakim and began rapping at the age of eight. Although preceded by a flurry of mix tapes, which fostered ASAP’s growing success and fan base, LongLiveA$AP will be ASAP’s debut album. Intense anticipation has been mounting, as ASAP promoted [...]

After ”Goldie” and “Fuckin’ Problems,” I didn’t quite know what my expectations were for A$AP Rocky’ s first studio album. I was a little nervous that the PMF (that’s pretty motha’ fucka’) might ditch the Clams Casino beats in favor of more radio-friendly cuts. I have nothing against radio rap, nor am I saying that I’m against Rocky’s recent rise to the mainstream. I just love the way his flow weaves through the ambience provided by Clams from the classic LiveLoveA$AP tape. Now we have the title track, complete with the combination of hard and soft [...]
8th February 2013 in Shoreditch, London.

This entire record is great, it's hard to single out just one track especially with guest appearances ranging from T.I. and Theophilus London to Little Dragon and Phantogram. "Lines" features the Southern influenced Rocky and Phantogram on the hook. This is the second solo record from Big Boi and is a must have for Hip-Hop fans...but can we please get another Outkast record? ♩Big Boi - Lines (feat. A$AP Rocky & Phantogram) [from Vicious Lies and Dangerous Rumors ] web // facebook // twitter // soundcloud // shows // iTunes [...]

Here are a few tracks for you to play on this very special day. You have to love Halloween and the fun dark vibe that gets everyone dressed up and acting dead. Have a safe one everyone! Don't smash to many pumpkins and stop stealing little kids candy! That shit will come back and haunt you! Muhahahahaha! Cheers! Mike Woodward

Narratives Music's third release is iminent and this week a little preview video went up on You Tube to increase the growing sense of anticipation. Lots of nice words being said by those in the know about this single and for good reason, the drum work on both tunes is second to none. Look out for something a little deeper on this from us as we edge closer towards the release date of 29th October. If you really can't wait, you might want to make sure you're first in line and pre order over at Surus from this [...]

Here's a little Hippidy-Hop to set off that Saturday night of yours. This is the HS87 Remix of Hit-Boy's Goldie featuring Audio Push and Roosevelt K . The original of Goldie performed by A$AP Rocky , who has been blowing up on the Hip-Hop scene as of late. The lyricism on this one, in my opinion, is better than that in the original, but I'll let you be the judge. Hit-Boy has even included a FREE DOWNLOAD for all you Hip-Hop lovers. "All You?" Who the [...]
