Goldspot played Blue Frog, Mumbai on January 24 as a part of their recent visit to the country. The band has previously played at the One Tree Festival in 2008 as well as Hard Rock Cafe, Mumbai in 2009 (review here ). As evidenced by the teen mass suffocating the Lower Parel venue on Tuesday night, the band's popularity has only risen since their last visit - a clear indication of the thriving popularity of their teen-boppy music (our editor was left feeling a little too old in his hoodie, sans Blackberry Messenger). The band kicked off [...]

Pop rock act Goldspot make the trip to India from Los Angeles this month for another tour of India. Goldspot has entertained audiences in India before with their energetic and charming performances (more details on one such performance here ) and will hope to replicate their earlier successes. While many nostalgic memories of Goldspot are conjured up for long-time fans (of the drink, or the band, or both) the LA indie rockers have been up to quite a few things since their last visit. The band launched their second album And the Elephant is Dancing [...]
Los Angeles indie rock band Goldspot has released a video for 'Ina Mina Dika'. The track, along with three others by the band features on recently-released film Today's Special , starring funnyman Aasif Mandvi (regular contributor to Comedy Central news program The Daily Show ). 'Ina Mina Dika' was originally composed by C. Ramachandra and sung by the legendary Kishore Kumar for the 1957 film Aasha . Goldspot's version is a rather unimaginative facsimile, using a surf-like clean guitar tone and slowing down the tempo, but changing little else. The similarity between the two versions [...]

[Thanks to everyone who helped make Tuesday night's Buzz Bands LA show at the Echo a smash hit. It felt like a whole weekend crammed into a couple of hours. Now, on with our week:] The Rescues , the L.A. quartet whose undeniable songs have been all over some of your favorite TV shows recently, headline the Troubadour, with young songstress Lucy Schwartz opening. ... I've been quite lazy in my posting around here lately. I've been shooting down idea after idea in my head, until something magical just kinda fell into my lap. Before I just endlessly spill the details of my personal life, let me just get right into why I'm back and what I'm bringing with me. Last fall I had this idea of making weekly mix-CD's; some for myself and some for others, but at least one a week. The plan kinda fell through after only a month and a half, but I did get a great mix or two out [...]
Seems like everyone made more resolutions than usual this year. It's easy to see why. After what everyone but China agrees was a decidedly crappy decade, the opportunity for a fresh start, however artificial, feels revitalizing. The individual New Years Resolutions will quickly fade as always, but hopefully the collective optimism towards a new decade has more staying power.OK Go - This Will Be

We recently got an advance of the new Goldspot LP, And The Elephant is Dancing. I've been enjoying one of the more poppy/synthy tracks off this new release. It's called "Call Center Girl". What can I say? I'm a sucker for sitars and Indian influences in pop music. The new album was co-produced by Khosla and Beach Boys engineer Jeff Peters. The album combines sunny west-coast pop, 1960s Indian films and George Harrison's psychedelia-tinged work in a tidy 11 song package. Break out the patchouli! The album is currently available for download via [...]

You know an almost surefire way to win me over? Employ a string section. It can be just two people with a violin and cello or it can be a full orchestra with horns, a children's choir, and tigers with tiaras swinging overhead from trapezes with fireworks shooting from their tiaras (if I ever win the lottery, I WILL make this happen). Oh, and cannons - if you're gonna go all out, might as well have cannons. And at least 4 castrati. Regardless of size, the main thing is that it's gotta be well done. You can't just go the schmaltzy, bed-of-strings route. DON'T BE LIKE RICHARD ASHCROFT, PEOPLE!! No, if [...]

From the press release for Goldspot 's And The Elephant Is Dancing , which is out today: From New Delhi to New Jersey, Goldspot's sophomore LP, And the Elephant Is Dancing, seamlessly fuses the cross-cultural influences of frontman Siddhartha Khosla's upbringing into an infectious pastiche of indie-pop nuggets. The follow-up to the critically acclaimed debut, Tally Of The Yes Men, is available now worldwide on iTunes. The new tracks will be showcased on a mini East Coast tour kicking off November 19 in New York. Sometimes I can't write anything [...]

There is always an excuse when I haven't written or posted something in a while, and I apologize. I r a bizzee person. I'd rather write about music than do what I've been doing, even though I love the core of what I'm doing. Lately it's become a neglecting lover so to speak. Speaking of unfortunate things, a number of terrible things have occurred in my life lately, including a deceased uncle, having and paying for a surgery I did not have insurance for*, a car accident my insurance wouldn't cover and being stuck in a doldrum – [...]
That Goldspot are a singles band became 7Up clear at their gig at Mumbai's Hard Rock Café . Thanks to Vh1 who brought them down as part of their Global Music Express series of concerts by international acts, the LA-based band, fronted by Indian-American Siddharth Khosla, was back in the city a little over a year after their performance at the One Tree Music Festival. The performance had got a mixed response. Since One Tree is primarily a blues rock festival, the group's pop-rock leanings turned many audience members off. But an equal number of people were [...]
Your guide to the top gigs in town (Mumbai town), weekly. There's a host of international artists performing in Mumbai this week. Head to Hard Rock Cafe on Wednesday, Feb 18 for the first gig of Goldspot's VH1 Global Music Xpress India tour. The band will be playing in the city for the first time since last year's well received performance at the One Tree Music Festival. Entry is Rs 500. Expect the venue to be packed. If alternative is [...]
International Acts Hitting Repeat On Mumbai In February The Black Lips may not have had a such good time here but plenty of international acts liked their concerts in India so much (or made enough money) that they're returning next month. Among the acts who will stage repeat performances in Mumbai during February are Anoushka Shankar (Blue Frog) , Bernard Allison and Chico & The Gypsies (One Tree Music Festival), Herbie Hancock (courtesy the American Consulate) and Goldspot (Vh1 Global Music Express). Welcome to a new Popwreckoning feature called "Under Cover" because we know that everybody loves to hear a good cover of their favorite songs and artists. There's no better way to kick off our cover songs feature than with Modest Mouse 's "Float On." While plenty of bands have covered this, we've narrowed it down to our favorite three covers: First up we have the "American Idol" Contestants' cover. Just kidding, we wouldn't put you through that, but we are going to feature another version that was used on the same network. [...]
