Seventeen year old Jack Heffron, aka Zeadron Del Gomez, has been my go-to field lying soundtrack since January. In that month, he released a full studio album entitled 'Hold My Hand? No', and for free no less. When listening all the way through, I like to think of it as a soundscape that slowly builds my surroundings, as if by playing certain songs, a different part of my environment is constructed. The tracks are the epitome of 'more is less' - simplicity is key in the effectiveness of the sound. Layered synths and minimalist drums create a fascinating [...]
It's kind of odd that I haven't uttered the words Dr. Dog around these parts in quite a while. Well, that's all about to change as the psych-pop-rock act recently announced that on February 7 they will be releasing their latest studio album - Be The Void . Along with that great news, the Philadelphia-based band has also revealed their first round of 2012 tour dates. The 31-date, two-month long run kicks off on February 1 at the Newport Music Hall in Columbus, Ohio and includes a high profile stop at New York's Terminal [...]
A very good job covering their entire catalog.

Music for music's sake. This is the message behind the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival , one of San Francisco's most anticipated musical events of the year. Funded by 77-year-old investment banker and music fanatic Warren Hellman, the event is free for the public and usually boasts around 750,000 people in attendance. This year was no different. With one of the most decorated and diverse lineups in the festival's history, including performances by Robert Plant and the Band of Joy , Bright Eyes , Broken Social Scene , and DeVotchka , this three-day assemblage [...]
Midweek madness: ► The Smashing Pumpkins visit the Wiltern, promising to preview some material off their forthcoming album "Oceania" (due in 2012). Fancy Space People (featuring Don Bolles) and Light FM open. ► Blondie plays Club Nokia behind their new album "Panic of Girls," and L.A. trio Nico Vega opens. ► Devotchka does a cozy show at the Bootleg Theater, with Mini Mansions supporting. ► Peter Bjorn & John wind up a string of SoCal dates with a show at the El Rey Theatre, with Hanni [...]
The final day of ACL wraps up with hot weather and even hotter performances.

Indie veterans Gomez released their new album Whatever's On Your Mind this summer and now we have a windy/rainy little video to accompany the album's title track. "Whatever's On Your Mind" is an introspective slow jam and the accompanying video demonstrates how difficult it is to wear glasses in the rain (I'm still working on that patent for mini wind shield wipers so not all hope is lost). Check out the video below. Whatever's On Your Mind from Gomez on Vimeo .
If you think of your impression of Gomez , it is probably a bunch of care free teenagers running riot with guitars slung over their shoulders, singing songs about urban piss-ups, and getting arrested while falling around student union pubs. When the band arrived onto the British music scene in 1997 with the explosive debut, Bring It On , (for which they received the Mercury Music Prize) beating Pulp, The Verve, and Massive Attack in the process, fame, fortune and flogging a few more million records seemed like the inevitable path the five young kids [...]

After a whirlwind summer, seeing the release of their seventh studio album Whatever's On Your Mind , and making appearances on the small screen on The Late Show with David Letterman and The Tonight Show with Jay Leno , Gomez have premiered the video for their latest album's title track, "Whatever's On Your Mind". Gomez - "Options" video In the video we see the UK quintet out to sea, braving [...]

Looking to ride the wave of momentum built up over this past summer, indie-rock mainstays Gomez have made a video for the title track from their most recent, and seventh, studio release, Whatever's On Your Mind . In the video, we catch up with the band as they sway about on a boat in the ocean on a rainy, windy day while a mysterious red-haired woman gazes off into the distance, back always towards the camera. The video employs an almost cinéma vérité style that is, at once, both simplistic and layered. It's [...]

We keep our eyes peeled for new tour dates announcements each week and compile them on Tuesdays for this handy column… While still remaining active over the last few years, via festival appearances and curated multi-day runs, String Cheese Incident haven't done any sustained touring since announcing a break from the road in 2007. Well, that's all about to change, as the venerable jam act has announced their Roots Run Deep tour , a 10-date East coast run that will kick off on November 25 at the Thomas Wolfe Auditorium in [...]
