Another week has ended. Now you go out and drink. I'll drink too, but a little less than you because even though it's a holiday weekend, I still have to work tomorrow and Sunday. When is Labor Day? Was that today or is it Monday? I guess it doesn't really matter. I worked today and I'll work Monday, too! Here's to only getting Holiday's off if one of the three "big ones" (Christmas, New Year's, July 4th) happens to fall on a day I'm scheduled to work. Oh well. Speaking of Monday, Nicci is going away for six weeks to [...]

DOWNLOAD: Gore - "Search Love" (MP3) (track hosted on SouthernLord.com ) Southern Lord has done a fabulous job resurrecting the first two CDs from Dutch dirge/instrumental rock band Gore. Southern Lord has packaged the band's first two discs, Hart Gore (1986) and Mean Man's Dream (1987) as a 2-CD set and each disc includes bonus tracks that amount to an "alternate" version, composed of live and demo tracks, of each of the studio LPs. For anyone not familiar with [...]

I've made it as a blogger for four years without ever devoting a post to my birthday. In fact, I'm pretty sure I only started referencing the day (April 25th) two years ago, when I posted some photos from my childhood, and last year, when I wrote a clever introductory paragraph that borrowed from an episode of Aqua Teen Hunger Force . This year I only have an hour between waking up and spending 8 hours at work and going to a dual-birthday party, so I need to think fast. I guess I can exploit the fact that its [...]

No surprise that one of the late 80s'/ early 90s' most influential instrumental metal groups should show up in reissue form on Southern Lord, right? Gore was a Dutch band that bridged the heaviness of 80's metal with the oncoming murky sludge of what would become grunge; a feat that seems mundane today with so many bands following the same formula, but keep in mind that Gore did it at much different time in history. And they were one of the first to do it. The two albums, Hart Gore and Mean Man's Dream are epic [...]
First Gornography, now Koktopus: Local metal acts really excel at turning two words into oneword. "I thought of the name as a joke," says Koktopus singer Fletch. "When we made up our minds that we we... Continue reading "None So Vile: The Wrath of Koktopus" >
HAHA, we came across this on the internet. It's promo video for a new club in MIAMI that stars MICHAEL from DESIGNER DRUGS and a super hot goth lady. Long story short, MICHAEL gets killed at the end. Enjoy the ROB ZOMBIE soundtrack. BLACK SUNDAY- FLESH EATING SEX DEMON from Alexis Mincolla on Vimeo .

When we caught up with him over Christmas , Cannibal Corpse bassist, Alex Webster , was looking forward to a quiet Christmas with his family. But now it's back to business as usual - Hugh Platt caught up with him to talk gore, guts, and their new album of death metal grinds . When Britney Spears has a Parental Advisory sticker on her album, it undermines the symbol as a warning God-fearing parents to not let their little lambs [...]

Modern day hardcore bands namedropping Void, Negative Approach and Die Kreuzen automatically throw down the money-where-your-mouth-is gauntlet, so when Austin's Total Abuse does all that and then the singer talks about how he likes to hide behind a wall of power electronics noise and intone to the audience dictator-like, I am skeptical. But with the new weed of HC bands like Fucked Up and Sex Vid (covering the Dead C for heavens sake) the combo of select history lessons in sound vs. conceptual rulebook out the window can't be anything but a kool and [...]
When we think about Christmas, the first things that spring to mind are Santa Claus, mince pies, and graphic gore-metal. Okay, that's not strictly true - occasionally we take a break from all the merriment to reflect on that baby Jesus fellow. But then we're straight back on to that gore-metal. So what better time could there be to catch up with the undisputed Kings of Gore, Florida's Cannibal Corpse ? We cornered bassist, Alex Webster, and gave him some short sharp 'uns on how the death metal pioneers are planning on spending Christmas. [...]
I will start off by stating that I believe John McCain will win the election. It is going to be a very close race, but he will win. Colin Powell's endorsement is not a game changer. Here is the full video of Colin Powell's reason and endorsement of Barack Obama. What do you think? Even though Barack Obama is in the lead in all the polls .. we must remember that both Kerry and Gore were in the lead going into November and they both lost.

SomaCow Media is proud to present SomaCow , brought to you by Draft Gore because it ends up our conservative little Mickey wants Gore for president in '08. It's true! It's been at least a week since I picked on Ross, right? OK, let me explain, if I haven't before, what Ross is to do as one of his jobs during the show. Ross takes notes. These notes are to be used for two things. 1) If we ever want to look [...]

Dear AT&T, I recently purchased a new two-year contract to join your wireless network. After leaving AT&T for Verizon during my freshman year of college, my rejoining your network made me feel like a soldier returning from war. To that end, the first thing I wanted to do was get laid. So, I did. The second thing I wanted to do was buy a new phone to make me an official AT&T user. So, I did. I got a very nice phone, in fact, that I feel also doubles as a status symbol. When people see me walking [...]
Ah, Friday night in Los Angeles. I go to see Lavender Diamond and Dntel at Amoeba (neither of whom were interesting, but more that in a moment), try to make plans, get stood up/fallen asleep on, try to make other plans, stand someone up/fall asleep on them. Is this the flakiest city in the world? Mmm...I'll get back to you on that one. So yeah. That Lavender Diamond...they had a mellow vibe but that was about it. Man, can that crunchy singer-girl banter between songs. The only problem was, all she wanted to talk about was world peace [...]
