Tweet Did everyone go on about this 6 months ago and I just missed it? Somebody That I Used To Know spent 8 weeks at the top of the Australian charts, and had huge success in other parts of Europe, including becoming the biggest-hit-ever in Poland, spending 15 weeks at the number 1 spot. It passed me by completely. The record and video suddenly seem to be everywhere now though and it's quite something. [...]

New York based producer David Berrie's progressive alter-ego dBerrie is at it again, giving us a listen to his banging remix of Gotye - Somebody That I Used To Know . It can be a tough order to remix a hit like this one, but dBerrie really makes it happen, turning it into a progressive big room banger. We just checked out dBerrie when he spun the weekly Santos Party House Electric Beach party this past Saturday and it was a full evening of compelling beats and frenetic [...]

Gotye State of the Art Wally DeBacker aka Gotye will be sharing his album, " Making Mirrors " with the US fans tomorrow. He has also launched a US tour and will be coming to a town near you with another amazing aritst, Kimbra, both coming to you from that great country down under. Check out the video taken from The Sydney Opera House performance of "State of the Art" anothe song off his new LP. Kimbra @ Big Day Out 2012 (courtesy of [...]
Gotye - Aussie art-popping studio wiz (pronounced Gauthier -- real name Wouter "Wally" De Backer) has become something of an international cult favorite blending meticulous and extensive sampling -- often of real instruments and ambient noise -- with 80's styled progressive pop songwriting and production..."Somebody I Used to Know", with Kiwi songstress Kimbra, was one of 2011's biggest singles Down Under, reaping multiple ARIA awards and topping airplay charts // Release : Making Mirrors (January 31) // Sounds like : Gotye's reedy tenor and sophisticated rhythm charts have drawn comparisons to Sting and [...]
Here is my current obsession. I have been playing this tragic break-up tune on repeat for the past couple of weeks. I'm probably going wear it out soon, and I am pretty sure I've already ruined it for several of my friends. I don't really care for all of the remixes and covers that have been floating around for this song. There is just something addictive about the original, and Kimbra's short little bridge leading into the second chorus about gives me goosebumps every time. Well that's enough from me, just watch the video and let me know what you [...]

A newly emerging group from California 4FRNT gives the popular radio song "Somebody That I Used To Know" a fresh electronic pop treatment. The newcomers breathes solid electro beats to the melodic vocals and just a dash of dubstep, they've rapidly climbed up the charts and already dominating Hypem's popular. Dusk at Mount Carmel Pond, Newfoundland Bonjour tout le monde, hope your weekend was well! The snow and sleet have stopped, the wind has died down, and Hot Biscuit and I have woken up to a pretty chill and relaxing Sunday. And with their being so many disgustingly good new tunes recently, we figured we'd post them as a Sunday Playlist so you can add a little disco to your day. Hope you enjoy. Goldroom's title track off his recently released Angeles EP should cure what ails ya, alcohol [...]

We all know I hate Best of Lists that come out before the year is over so nearly 4 weeks into 2012 I finally present my best albums of 2011! (Still a day faster than last year !) Below are the top 10 albums from my 2011 followed by 10 honorable mentions. The list was compiled by weighing total play counts along with longevity. Not only did I listen to it a lot, but was I still reaching for it months after the honeymoon phase. These are those albums. Since I can't be bothered to rank these [...]

If 31-year-old Australian singer-songwriter Gotye wasn't already somebody you used to know, he is now. Last year, the Belgium-born artist teamed up with delightfully quirky New Zealand songstress Kimbra (who I first Introduuced back in July of 2010) for "Somebody That I Used To Know," the second single off of his third studio album, Making Mirrors. Set atop electronic stings, a lone xylophone and a swinging sample of Brazilian guitarist Luiz Bonfá 's "Seville," the heartbreaking, peculiarly sparse track sees the duo going back and forth [...]
To anyone who has listened to Gotye's Making Mirrors album, I found this 10 minute documentary truly inspiring since the viewer is able to grasp the musical ingenuity of his creative process. After first listening to the Making Mirrors album, Gotye’s refined sound illuminates an incredibly distinctive musical journey of eclectic tracks which in turn, presents a truly engaging listening experience. I was lucky enough to snag tickets to Gotye at the El Rey in LA next week and I haven't been this ecstatic in quite some time, for good reason. Enjoy the weekend everyone. [...]

Tonight marks the first ever WINTER concert at Red Rocks. With that in mind, why wouldn't it snow. Last night Atmosphere opened up for Brother Ali at the Ogden and tonight he will be headlining the Icelantic Winter with Common and despite the fierce elements, the show is SOLD OUT! Bundle up and wear your snow boots, because the ramps are a tad slick. Tonight's event may have sent a precedent for future winter shows at Red Rocks and if you put on the show, people will come. So Gotye (got-ya) scored the #1 spot on Triple J's 'Hottest 1002 with "Somebody I Used To Know" - plus some other dance acts actually (woo), so the timing of this was near perfect! Although the song's been rinsed so thoroughly that the fabric of its soul has almost been lost DCUP has funked this to the 102s. In a sorta well executed bootleg, Duncs has thrown in some groovy femme fatale vocals to balance out Wallys whirling voice and saxxed/guitaired it out to the max, a wonderful blend!

I heard someone say that the Gotye album was a disappointment, but then heard them also say "nothing sounds like the song on the radio". That right there was enough for me to know not to take their word for it, but give it my own listen. I haven't had the chance to fully do so just yet, but I did get to enjoy "Don't Worry We'll Be Watching You". With a creepy ass title like that, I already had high hopes and it delivered. This track sounds like a Deftones song when they get on their heroin [...]

Goddamn, do I love me some Party Ben! Every time I see him come up on my SoundCloud Incoming, I pretty much know I'm gonna post it, especially with vocals like these. I'm really surprised I haven't featured more Gotye remixes on here, but thankfully I held off 'til now. Party Ben mixes in a Roxbury-type club banger with some of the most memorable lyrics of 2011. Really didn't know how this would work mixed for the club, but PB pulls it off better than ever. Party Ben [...]
Gotye - Dont’ Worry, We’ll Be Watching You There are a lot of hidden gems in the Gotye album - if you were expecting an album full of songs like Somebody That I Used To Know, you will be disappointed. This vocals on this track reminds me of a deconstructed Deftones song. It’s a slow, and dark song that builds into a pretty cool electronic beat near the end.

The Triple J Hottest 100 is an annual music poll, based on the votes of national Australian radio station Triple J listeners, in order to determine their favourite song of the year. Voting is conducted by the internet and begins roughly two weeks prior to the new year for the previous year's songs. The 100 most popular songs are then counted down on Australia Day weekend – usually Australia Day itself, 26 January And its no surprise to us that we have featured the top 100 songs [...]
