Woah, in terms of Gigantic puns, that one has got to be up there with the best of them, although it only works if you pronounce Gotye incorrectly, and with a Northern Irish Accent. Apparently it's actually pronounced in a similar way to Gaultier. Anyway, name nonsense aside, this blog post is dedicated to Gotye. The first person to recommend him to me was Mike Mormecha from the band Mojo Fury. Then, not too long after that, Suzie McCracken recommended I check him out as well. I figured it was about time to pay attention. So, the [...]

Big Day out, one Australia's hottest summer music festivals was launched last week in Auckland with its first shows a few days later up in the Gold Coast along the NE Australian shores. Check out Australian based KIMBRA performing her hit song "Settle Down". If you haven't heard of her yet, she is the featured female voice in the GOTYE song, " Someone That I Used To Know " off his album, Making Mirrors which will be released in North America on January 31st! Check her live performance above. [...]
So this may not be the 'typical' BGB post, but hey, it never hurts to try something different. It won't get you up with hands in the air dancing, but it may hit most of us somewhere close to home. 'Somebody That I Used To Know' is a track released as a single in mid-2011 by the Australian-Belgian artist Gotye. I hadn't heard it until recently but understand why it hit #1 on charts across multiple countries. The quiet instrumentals and mix of male and female vocals play off each other real well while sending a message in [...]
Walk Off the Earth's Gotye cover really made a splash.

Tras pasar por las manos de Distrakt vs Shameboy o Miami Night 1984 , en dos grandes remixes de temática totalmente diferente, el gran temazo de Gotye " Someone I Used To Know ", ahora es revisado por el productor australiano Duncan MacLennan , aka DCUP , dejándonos un nuevo y dulce edit de sonidos retro disco funk/house. Delicioso. [...]

Gotye's album, 'Making Mirrors,' is set to be released stateside on January 31st (happy birthday to me), but you can listen to it in its entirety now thanks to NPR . When I was first introduced to the extremely palatable single, "Somebody That I Used To Know," featuring Kimbra, I must have hit replay about ten times, and the accompanied video is pretty neat as well (see below). Actually, I think the video is rather brilliant, it makes the song much more potent. Thematically, 'Making Mirrors' is pretty consistent but musically, it's very eclectic. [...]

Sweet edit Dcup did for "Someone I used To Know" from Gotye. If you're fan of boogie beats, this one is for you. There is something about this track that makes me listen and re-listen, over and over, again. Everything seems to be perfectly connected and very well balanced. Can you feel it? I was a little hesitant on compiling a list of my favorite non-electro heavy tracks for 2011. It seemed like most blogs had the gist of what mine would look like and, for the most part, I didn't have too much to add. But I decided to sack it up and do it anyway because (1) I wanted to keep track for future reference and (2) I did manage to find some real gems in here. I also tried to make it all flow together Instead of just a random list of favorites, so [...]

Trying to keep consistent with the posts that I put together last year, this is my list of favourite new artists that I found in 2011. One caveat worth mentioning, a lot of these artists may have existed pre-2011, but only came on to my radar last year. Although this post really should have been published at the end of last year, I'm glad I'm finally getting to it. Stream them in playlist form via Spotify , Rdio and Grooveshark . [...]
Dope new dance mix from DLake & Morsy.

Making Mirrors, out Jan. 31, finds Gotye making the most of a canny notion: that the pop sounds of the '80s didn't fall out of fashion so much as fall victim to dated production. Gotye's breakthrough album, Making Mirrors, comes out in the U.S. Jan. 31. Please Note: this is another belated/delayed US release, this was posted here already, some 6 months ago. Read more »
I love the original and can't wait til everybody knows about it once it starts hitting the radio waves more. They hit us up with this song first and then plan on blasting it to their fans. The now-famed original from Gotye of "Somebody That I Used To Know" has been a popular track in the remix game as of late, yet this rendition from DLake & Morsy brings forth a dance-friendly and up-beat sound that's been absent from predecessors. The B'more / NYC DLake has a hoard of collabos to his name, most notably for us his constant collaboration with the homie e-dubble - while Brooklyn-based Morsy is a new name, but a welcome one. Enjoy below and find more on the artists at the links. Download: [...]

With the anticipation of Coachella now in full force after the release of the final batch of tickets last Friday at 10am (yes, we got f*&^ed over by the standby page too), it’s time to get acquainted with the 100+ artists who will be there. One of these is Gotye , a man by the real name Wally De Backer who, armed with his travelling band, is selling out concert halls left and right, solidifying his place on indie playlists. [...]

STS continued his increasingly impressive hi-jack tour through other artists' material (aka his GOLD Rush series) with yesterday's video premiere of the woefully brief, MPIII-produced Drake/ Beyonce flip "We Threw A Party", but excuse us while we rewind the clock back to highlight last week's clever entry "Cut Me Off", not only the best belated riff off of Gotye's "Somebody That I Used To Know" that we've heard so far, but one that should easily elevate STS to the shortlist of XXL's 2012 Freshman class. Recycling the high tenor [...]

There just isn't enough time in my days right now. Here's the new formula around here while I am finishing up my training at the restaurant...instead of trying to do a small posting here and there, my new goal will be to put out a playlist every week. Hopefully that works for you over the next few months until life settles down a bit. I was pretty excited about some of the live shows that have been announced in Vancouver over the next while. Here are some songs from must-see shows coming to town. Enjoy. [...]
