Mountain Jam returns to Hunter Mountain, New York from May 31st - June 3rd. Today, the festival revealed its initial lineup, with the newly reunited Ben Folds Five ( who may have a new album out by then ), The Roots, Steve Winwood, Gov't Mule, and Michael Franti and Spearhead leading the way. The initial lineup announcement for the 2012 Mountain Jam Festival has been revealed and it's impressive. Joining host Warren Haynes and Gov't Mule a top the bill will be Steve Winwood, Michael Franti & Spearhead, The Roots, Ben Folds Five and The Travelin' McCoury's featuring Keller Williams. Last night was a big evening for a number of groups within the jam scene as Furthur, Phish, Umphrey's McGee, moe., STS9, the Disco Biscuits, Perpetual Groove and Gov't Mule all took the stage at separate concerts across the country. Happy holidays, dudes and dudettes! Hope you got everything you wished for and downed copious amounts of egg nog. Warren Haynes returns to Asheville, North Carolina for the 23rd Annual Christmas Jam on December 10 at the Asheville Civic Center. Haynes' Gov't Mule unit will headline the show along with Los Lobos, Bela Fleck and more artists who will be announced soon. Of particular interest is that Phil Lesh will also perform at this year's XMas Jam with a new version of his Phil and Friends project. This weekend, the Dave Matthews Band will return to New York City with their traveling multi-day festival - Caravan - after Hurricane Irene forced the postponement of its final two days several weeks back. Moving just a bit north up the East River from Governor's Island to Randall's Island, the fest will retain its three-day format, where the DMB will be joined by the likes of Dispatch, who will play on Friday and Saturday nights, Warren Haynes, who will perform a special solo set, and vintage jam act From Good Homes. While I was awaiting Hurricane Irene's arrival on Saturday I was hipped to a number of fantastic videos featuring members of the Allman Brothers Band and their various projects by fellow NYC-Freak Jarrett Grushka. These clips were uploaded by Mule Army leader Rich Granaas and include rare footage of the one-guitar ABB lineup from 1973 , the trio days of Gov't Mule and four hours and 20 minutes (heady) worth of the legendary One For Woody concert from 2000. The hardest working man in the scene, Warren Haynes, told his fans a long time ago that Gov't Mule would be put on the backburner in 2011 while he hit the road with his Warren Haynes Band in support of Man In Motion. Warren has stayed true to his word as Mule performances this year have been kept to two sets at last month's Mountain Jam and a handful at shows in Jamaica at the beginning of 2011 as part of Island Exodus. ROSE HILL DRIVE - Americana // Boulder, CO based shredders, Rose Hill Drive released their highly anticipated new studio album today titled, "Americana". I saw these guys on Block Island, RI opening for Gov't Mule in 2008 and have been a fan ever since. The brothers have been opening for Stone Temple Pilots this summer so take notes! Well you asked for it. Last week we announced on Twitter - and also right here on HT - that we were taking suggestions for this weeks Cover Wars and we are men and women of our words. We went with ChefRobD's suggestion to take a look at covers of The Crunge by Led Zeppelin.
