Campus Crusade for Christ is currently in 3 rd place among the top corporate networks on Facebook in the overall NCAA tournament bracket standings. I was surprised at first, but it makes perfect sense. Every player and coach publicly thanks God immediately after winning a big game. Clearly, He has something to do with the outcome. And clearly, if any corporation is going to get its hands on the scoop before the official results are in, it's the CC for C. It's probably a [...]
I don't have too much time for a post today, but I wanted to be sure to tell ye faithful readers about another one of my favorite blues-gospel-folk combos Grace Potter & The Nocturnals. Actually from Boston, this band has all the makings to be a real Southern folk powerhouse. High charged belts (and some good looks) from the lead singer, Grace Potter, and some serious grooving on the part of "The Nocturnals", the debut album Nothing But The Water is sure to please. If you remember my posts about [...]
James Blunt's latest hit is a person. Blunt, with his beauty Petra Nemcova, ran over an autograph seeker in Hollywood the other night. The "fan" seemed to have some possible injuries to his leg and foot, no doubt making lawyers all over L.A. salivate at the prospect of suing a chart topper. Portishead, who've seemed to be in the studio as nearly long as Axl Rose (ok, not that long) performed a live short set last night. Geoff Barrow was scheduled to DJ at a club, but surprised the crowds when he and his [...]

When I compiled this top twenty list (for Bruce and Heather's 12 X 12 post), I did knocked it out in a hurry, at the end of November. If I could go back now, I would make some changes. The Format would crack the top ten. Damien Rice would move up in numbers. Regina would probably come in second. Greg and Amos would switch seats. Brett Dennen would be voted off the island and replaced by Sonya Kitchell. But it is what it is and hindsight is twenty twenty. No matter how [...]
Today in Music History: 1971, Slade appeared at London's Marquee Club, for a Christmas Eve party night. Time to wrap things up for 2006, take some time off and start fresh in 2007. seems like it's a requirement to do a best of or worst of list for the ending year. Almost everyone has their lists compiled from magazines to tv etc blah, blah. Just finished reading Rolling Stone's list of the 100 best songs of 2006. Personally I wasn't too impressed, although a couple on the list I [...]

Every Friday, WXPN and World Café Live have free concerts at noon. I think Grace's publicist was the first to send me a promo CD. And I think I might have to say it is the one promo I listen to the most. Here, Potter and her incredibly talented band knock out some killer bluesy-rock for an appreciative audience. Treat Me Right Ragged Company [...]

Last week I was fortunate enough to catch Grace Potter and the Nocturnals live in Northampton, MA at the Ironhorse theater. For those of you not familiar with the Ironhorse, it's a fairly intimate venue where I assumed I would be able to fully experience Grace's voice. To my surprise, I got more than I bargained for. The opening band's bus broke down in route, so they were replaced by an acoustic duo (pardon me for forgetting their names) which proved to be entertaining for their [...]
I posted an mp3 by Grace Potter and The Nocturnals a while ago with the promise of more once I received their album, Nothing But The Water. Here's the more. There are so many gems on this cd, it was... **Click on the link to read the full post, download mp3s, and comment.**

Grace Potter & The Nocturnals hail from Vermont, and in the last few years they've been gaining a rather big live following throughout the U.S. Their blend of soul/funk/blues/country/gospel /every-other-genre tinged Americana as demonstrated on their new record, Nothing But The Water , is pretty darn fine, although I'd suggest that it hints at much bigger things to come (especially considering how Potter herself is only 22). Which also happens to be my age. It's pretty odd when you get to the age where successful musicians are actually the same age or younger than you. Slightly frightening. [...]

Grace Potter & the Nocturnals- 2:22 It’s the most ingenious marketing plan of 2006. While attempting to locate an elusive Tim Buckley and Judy Collins duet among dusty Elektra label master tapes, an archivist uncovered a staggeringly brilliant unreleased recording. After a chemically-inspired jolt of inspiration during Phil Lesh's set at Bonnaroo, the label's marketing deparment decided to release the 35-year-old album as a new independent effort by a fictional act out of Vermont named Grace Potter and the Nocturnals . [...]
