Find a bean bag chair to lay in, flip on the lava lamp, and break out your headphones for this one. Grace Potter's take on Grace Slick's 1967 masterpiece off the Jefferson Airplane album Surrealistic Pillow doesn't play like a tired cover, but a revitalized colorful [...]
Earlier this year Deer Tick released their third full-length record The Black Dirt Sessions , an intimate and personal album thanks in part of lead singer John McCauley's extremely confessional lyrics. McCauley will now get a chance to showcase those tunes in a different setting from Deer Tick's usual rowdy and raucous shows, as he has scheduled an eight-date acoustic tour. McCauley will be joined by his band mate Ian O'Neil on guitar and vocals for a string [...]
Katy Perry's boobs get an estimated 33,000 Google searches each month. Interestingly "Kary Perry music" gets a very similar amount. So, I know you're thinking that we looked that up just to get some boob hits on the website. Guilty as charged. But, Earvolution is not the only place focused on Katy Perry's boobs. And, we're not just talking about Russell Brand either. VH1 also knows sex sells and

Kicking off this month's edition of our look at the month in photographs are a couple shots from Halloween. The first one is an amusing photo of Bill Nershi of the String Cheese Incident , face to face with his pint size replica at the Hampton Coliseum on Hulaween. Apparently an enterprising photographer snuck the little guy up on stage, giving everyone a good laugh. You can check out tapes from the evening on the archive and livecheese.com [Bill Nershi w/ Barefoot Billy, [...]

Filed under: Concerts and Tours , News , New Music , Exclusive Grace Potter 's new version of the ' One Tree Hill ' theme song, which debuted earlier this week, doesn't mark the first time the rootsy pop singer songwriter has paired up with the hit TV program. Last fall, Potter actually made a cameo appearance on the show. "I played a busker, so it worked easily. It was very natural," the bouncy 26-year-old tells Spinner. "I'd just been [...]

Getting in the spirit of the holiday season, Vermont-bred badass singer, songwriter and strummer, Grace Potter and the Nocturnals, took to the Exit/In stage in Nashville on Halloween. Complete in country regalia (from l-r in the below image they are Billy Ray Cyrus, Dolly Parton, Patsy Cline, Willie Nelson and Waylon Jennings) , the band played to a sold out crowd and Potter even led the troupe in a solid cover of Parton's Jolene . Keeping in fine tradition as [...]

Pitch Perfect For fans of a certain artfully raw and dramatic brand of indie rock, neither Jonathan Meiburg nor Jamie Stewart really needs an introduction. The former was a principal in Okkervil River and now fronts Shearwater , while the latter has been the creative force behind Xiu Xiu since 2002, and for the benefit of those familiar with one and not the other, their bands had toured together in recent years. And now, they've made an album together. Over the course of a week earlier this year, Meiburg [...]

In an age of Facebook, Twitter and any number of social media outlets capable of documenting the minutia of your day to day life, sometimes something as simple as the lost art of the phone call serves as the best way to connect with someone on a personal level. For their latest social activism campaign, HeadCount is doing just that by taking a back to basics approach in order to remind people to head to the polls to exercise the Constitutional right to vote in next Tuesday's mid-term elections. [...]
Photography by Amelia [well, actually by my friend Laura, 'cause that's me in the picture, but it was on my phone so I'm taking credit] This is a mixtape about a triangle. A Troublesome Trio, Three Amigos. Side one is from a Brokenhearted Boy's perspective, about the girl who broke his heart. Side two is from a Gloomy Girl's perspective, who happens to love Brokenhearted Boy. The missing side of the triangle is the Other Girl, the friend to both who started causing all the trouble. So since Brokenhearted Boy is sad about the Other Girl and Gloomy [...]

Review and gallery by Laurie Scavo The winsome, electric folk-rock of the Avett Brothers is generally not the stuff of Jumbotrons. But there it was Friday night, gleaming from the big, crystal clear HD screens that flank the stage at the glitzy Nokia Theatre in downtown L.A. If anything, the images of the banjo-toting North Carolinans only served to intensify the emotional resonance of their show, which peaked with the song "November Blue." That paean to longing, off the Avetts' 2002 album "Country Was," seems to [...]

Co-headlining the Ogden with Sharon Jones, this set from Grace Potter and the Nocturnals started off a bit slow, and really didn't seem to gain momentum until Only Love . Folks were still trickling into the theater when GP&N started out the night without any openers, which is partially to blame for the disengaged audience early on. Nevertheless, the notoriously non-dancing Denver crowd was finally up and moving to the music half-way through the show.
