Last night the rains were torrential. When the dog barked and woke me up, I could hear the rain beating on the roof. I called Gracie back upstairs, and she came but was unsettled. She doesn't mind rain or thunder so I figured she had rung her bells to go out, and I hadn't heard. The barks were her next hope of waking me. We went downstairs, and I opened the back door. The rain was in sheets and so heavy I could barely see the yard. Gracie poked her head out then right back in again. I insisted she [...]

Matt Marchinowski of Big School Records is moving out of Philadelphia. To celebrate his time here, Marchinowski has pieced together a snapshot of the local music scene with a 27-track mixtape called Philamixington II , available as a free download via his Tumblr . The second installment in the local music mixtape series, this collection samples various genres, circles and side projects with tracks from radio favorites like Cheers Elephant (pictured), basement staples Roof Doctor and The Hundred Acre Woods and new-projects-from-old-buddies like Avery Rosewater . From Marchinowski [...]

This week, David Bowie demonstrated his 'work flow diagrams', we learned that Flying Lotus will feature new music in the Jay-Z produced film An Oversimplification Of Her Beauty, Wolfmother will now be referred to as the frontman's moniker Andrew Stockdale, and James Murphy doth protests too much as he told us again that an LCD Soundsystem reunion "isn't happening." But get excited, as we give you a few of our favorite things from the week in no particular order. Durh...

Philly-bred multi-instrumentalist / producer Andrew Balasia released his latest EP as Gracie yesterday through Small Plates Records . Now based in Brooklyn, the experimental pop musician teased the release several months ago with a mid-fall Key Studio Session appearance , performing the EP's lead track and first two singles. Bleeder comes a little over a year after Gracie's last Treehouse EP and expands Balasia's signature chillwave style to anthemic proportions, especially on album single " Creature Pleaser " with its subtle nod to Rod Stewart's "Young Turks." ![Gracie - 'My Pet' [Listen]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4912441_lg.jpg)
There seems to be a lot of bedroom-based pop coming out at the moment and Brooklyn resident Andrew Balasia definitely falls into that category. Whilst most of it can be brushed under the carpet, 'My Pet' instantly clings to the ears. A mixture of piano, looped kicks and addictive electro layers the song crescendos into a fury of gorgeous, synthetic noise. Finishing off with a muted mirage of pop leftovers, Andrews vocal proves to be just as sweet as the song he's produced.
I have always thought of Keep the Coffee Coming as a community, a family. We get to chat with each other, share memories and have a laugh or two sometimes at our own expenses. One of my favorite Coffee experiences is learning about the world from all of you and about your childhoods and your holidays and traditions. Some family members have been with me for years, and I cherish them but I also cherish the newest members of the family. I think of Coffee as a place devoid of criticism or controversy, a place where we can all feel [...]

There are obvious parallels between this and Paris Angels ‘Perfume’ but they may only be obvious to old timers that remember classics from a forgotten age. Namely one where the dancey bits tended to sound innovative in the context of a song that was for all the worth an indie anthem. Oh how we felt we were pushing the envelope as we cowered in the corner of the disco as soon as the ravers took control of the dancefloor, with their sweaty brows and fixed but welcoming stares. This was our chance to steal a march on them, a mix [...]
With SXSW in full swing, we'll start off this week's list with Austin's own Courrier and quickly shift to some showcase groups in the area this week. The alt-rock foursome have brought their melodic energy forth with their sophomore album, Cathedrals of ... Read More
We ATH crew are here to make sure you don't completely screw up this whole SXSW thing and hate yourself for doing so. Now we realize that every website in the nation shares some musical advice on the festival itself, but we like to think that we can offer you our opinions in condensed, easy to read versions. Our policy has always been to only post things we like, and we promise to continue doing that. We'll be spending the next week or so fulfilling our promise with some SXSW artist to watch, 3 at a time. I'll start things [...]
Gracie is my barometer. She has been in and out all morning so I know it's warm outside. When she first went out, I watched her run the perimeter of the yard at top speed. When she came inside, she was panting and had the usual amount of spit on her face. I also have the front door open for her. She loves to sit there for hours and look outside. My street, though, is so very small I can't imagine what holds her attention except in the late afternoon when people walk their dogs by the house. That sends [...]
Virginia's Eternal Summers play Kung Fu Necktie tonight with Carousel and Wrong World. The dream / power pop trio are touring behind their 2012 sophomore album Correct Behavior. With frontwoman Nicole Yun's sweetly confident vocals spurred on by the aggressive guitar riffs and rhythms of drummer Daniel Cundiff and bassist Jonathan Woods, Eternal Summers blend ... The wind howled all night and rain pounded against the windows. I heard it when the coughing woke me up, but I didn't mind being awakened as I might have missed the rain, one of my favorite sounds. The howling wind was a bonus. It could have been from the soundtrack of an old black and white horror movie, like The Werewolf. Yesterday morning I called my friend of over forty years, and he thought I was a guy named Paul. That was it for me. I called the doctor. They wanted me in right away. I think my [...]

Once again the in-box overfloweth with sounds to share (especially once we'd consigned all the crappy remixes and dancefloor bangers to the trash folder) - so delve in to this lucky thirteen smorgasbord of audio delights. Inspired by the beautiful snowy winters and post-industrial landscape of Pittsburgh, PA, Arlo Aldo have created a new twist on American alt-folk, with mellow tempos and lilting harmonies layered on top of finger picked guitar and cathedral-like organ. New album Zelie will be released on the 5th February - recommended for fans of Low, Dirty Three, Wilco, [...]

I'm sort of in an electronic mood today as I try to groove my way into the weekend with some head nodding synth-pop music. My mood is continuing in this vein with this new pop tune "Habits" from Philly based indie band Gracie . The band has a wealth of other material over on their bandcamp page so I'm surprised that we haven't been turned on to them until just now. My bad. A new EP called Bleeder will be coming your way March 12th via Small Plates Records . Download: Gracie - [...]

Philly's experimental pop musician/producer/failmaster and all around good guy Gracie , is back in 2013 with new EP Bleeder and a 73, coming out in March on Small Plates , the record label we established with yvynyl in 2010. We heard Bleeder 's first single "Creature Pleaser" back in July and now we've got a new one (and my favorite from the LP) with "Habits" » A great song from a talented dude who gets better by the day... Of course I'm biased here, [...]
