Graf Orlock – Destination Time Tomorrow (For fans of Dangers, Phobia, Swallowing Shit)

Graf Orlock – Destination Time Tomorrow (For fans of Dangers, Phobia, Swallowing Shit) There are only a few grindcore bands I dig these days, and most of them need to have plenty of hardcore influences to keep me interested. Los Angeles Graf Orlock are masters of the genre, and I've been listening to them a shit ton lately. Playing self-described "cinema-grind", as we've posted before... these dudes take movie themes and just run wild with them. Their 2007 EP Destination: Time Tomorrow takes movies featured in the future (Alien, Jurassic Park, etc) and creates some of fucking brutal songs around them. Some may see this as gimmicky, [...]

A/V Roundup: THE FACELESS New Song Drum Cam, STEEL PANTHER on Dancing w/The Stars, New Music from TORCHE, PHOBIA, GRAF ORLOCK, AGONIST

Phobia - Contradiction
We're in (not so) sunny LA for the Golden Gods Awards, so we've been a little behind on all the new music and video clips lately. Here's a bit of a roundup. Needless to say, things will be moving a little slower on the site for the rest of the week, but we have a ...

GRAF ORLOCK ARE "QUICK ON THE TRIGGER"

Los Angeles, the absolutely stellar new EP from the grind gods in Graf Orlock, comes out today, and the band is celebrating by releasing another new track, "Quick on the Trigger." At slightly over four minutes, it's pretty much an epic by grind standards; luckily, every second of it totally SLAYS. I mean, Graf Orlock [...]

IO Album Giveaway: Graf Orlock's "Los Angeles"

IO Album Giveaway: Graf Orlock's "Los Angeles" After releasing three albums ( Destination Time Yesterday, Destination Time Tomorrow, Destination Time Today ) that centered around the theme of the controversial UCLA film (also titled Destination Time Yesterday ) that first brought the band members of Graf Orlock together, it was a little unclear where the grindcore band could go. But the band and their "cinema-grind" style is back and better than ever with their own label,Vitriol Records, and a new album titled Los Angeles whose music and album art centers around the 1995 L.A. crime drama Heat. T o be released next [...]

DTV: LOVERS OF ACTION MOVIES AND GREAT MUSIC SHOULD FLOCK TO DECIBEL EDITOR ANDREW BONAZELLI'S NEW BOOK

MetalSucks readers know Andrew Bonazelli (hopefully) for writing Decibel Magazine's "Fear, Emptiness, Decibel" column for us every week. But the dude is also a novelist and aficionado of ridiculous action schlock - when I attended a reading for his book A Regular in 2010 (my interview with the man himself on that great literary tome here), he opened by [...]

A PLETHORA OF GRAF ORLOCK EXCLUSIVES: NEW SONG! NEW EP ART!! NEW TOUR DATES!!!

Graf Orlock are surely one of the most invigorating grind bands on the scene today; not only is their music as mercilessly murderous as you'd want it to be, but their incorporation of elements from action films is brilliant, often completely recontextualizing the band's music, rather than just allowing listeners to indulge in "Oh I get [...]

Graf Orlock – Destination: Time Today (For fans of Dangers, Swallowing Shit, Phobia)

Graf Orlock – Destination: Time Today (For fans of Dangers, Swallowing Shit, Phobia) When I first heard Graf Orlock, I was blown away immediately. Any band that could take the Jurassic Park theme song and turn it into a grindcore song gets an A+ in my book. Los Angeles self described "cinema-grind", Graf Orlock mixes music and movies, and with their latest (well, released in 2009) "Destination: Time Today", the band brings some of the most furious grind I've heard in a long time. Admittedly, I don't watch many movies. I simply don't have the attention span to sit for 2 hours at a time and stare at a screen without [...]

UPCOMING BULLSHIT: LOTS OF GREAT METAL COMING OUR WAY IN SPRING 2012

In the absence of actual new music or substantial information of some kind, I find it kinda hard to get psyched up about the announcement of an album release date in all but a few special cases. But there have been a number of big release date announcements and rumors in the past few days, [...]

Sunday Slaylist(s): Decibel Magazine's Albums of 2011

Uh-oh. It's started. It's not even December yet and yet the great Season Of Lists is upon us. As 2011 slowly creeps to a close, every man, woman, magazine, website, and radio station is publishing their Albums Of The Year List. Of all the major players, Decibel Magazine - America's only monthly metal magazine, and [...]

QUESTION OF THE WEEK: IS ELITISM IN METAL A GOOD THING OR A BAD THING?

Welcome to "Question of the Week," a (sometimes) weekly debate amongst the MetalSucks staff regarding a recent hot button issue. This week's query was suggested by reader Yevgeniy Reznichenko: IS ELITISM IN METAL A GOOD THING OR A BAD THING? The MS staff's answers after the jump. Seriously? You're talking to the dude who regularly [...]

GHOSTLIMB: PURE MOSH

(metal needs more smiles) Ghostlimb's 20082s smasher of an album Bearing and Distance knocked my socks off. Like literally blew them right off my feet and sent them flying across the room at some poor MS Mansion Monkey's head, not surprising seeing as the album was penned by Graf Orlock guitarist/vocalist Justin Smith aka "Jason [...]

GHOSTLIMB RELEASING 'INFRASTRUCTURE', DEBUT NEW SONG

I liked Ghostlimb's last record, Bearing & Distance more than all the Graf Orlock stuff. So Brooklyn Vegan's release of their new song "Construction" got me all excited. Even with the ample time I've had to digest it, "Construction" still has me guessing at what Ghostlimb's third LP Infrastructure will be delivering. The song is aggressive but it explores more 'post' styles than anything before.

OWEN HART TAKE YOU TO "METHLAHEM"

Alright alright alright. I know everyone is still arguing about the best albums of 2010, but whatever. I'm over it. It's done. It happened. It's yesterday. 2010 is so 2010. It's time to move on to 2011. And the first great full-length of 2011, at least as far as this blogger is concerned, is Owen [...]

GRAF ORLOCK WANT TO HELP YOU THROUGH THIS ROUGH ECONOMY

I know I've already written about Graf Orlock twice this week (here and here), but their new EP, Doombox, is just that fucking good (read our review here). And now Brooklyn Vegan is giving away a track from that EP, "Job Hunt," for free! Go listen to and download it here. Yeah, it only runs less [...]

THE PACKAGING FOR GRAF ORLOCK'S DOOMBOX IS SSSSSSSSSIIIICCCCCCK KKKKK

Graf Orlock have a history of doing insanely cool shit for their album packaging - 20072s Destination Time Tomorrow, for example, was held in the grasp of a facehugger from the Alien franchise - but I think it's safe to say that they've pretty much outdone themselves, and just about everyone else, with the packaging for [...]
