Stray Kites Ashburn, Virginia About a three years ago I moved to the outskirts Ashburn, Virginia. It's basically one big industrialized forest with a river down the middle. Most people's personalities seem pretty contrived, but there's a safe vibe about it . Anyways after missing a bus ride home one day I met Max Detrich and we started talking about music and how much we'd like to make some. The Wednesday of that following week we created Stray Kites. Recently I've been taking a lot [...]
They may be a new band, but catchy, lo-fi punk rock never gets old. Male Bonding formed in London just two years ago, first cutting their teeth on covers of Black Flag and Mission of Burma songs before releasing a split 7" with Pens on their own Paradise Vendors label. The band then hit the road with everyone from Vivian Girls to Graffiti Island, slowly making friends and fans across the globe. They released their debut full-length, Nothing Hurts , in May via Sub Pop to positive reviews. Clocking [...]
Acting as both a label and distro company, showcasing an ever diversifying roster and possessing the best name for a record label I've heard in an age, there's a lot of reasons to like Italian Beach Babes.
For the last couple of years, London's been increasingly abuzz with distortion and line-noise. One of the bands at the forefront of the abundant Dalston scene is Male Bonding . Through their commitment to their own record label, Paradise Vendors, and since signing to Sub Pop for their debut album, the band has been drawing loads of attention to both their own music and of their noisy lo-fi UK peers like Graffiti Island and Fair Ohs . The band's origins are in British noise rockers Pre , and in 2007 guitarist John Webb, [...]
So this is how we begin the end. In spite of the doom and gloom spewed by the mouthpieces of the not-so-bloated anymore mass music industry, and her government pawns, we have witnessed, in 09, an absolute explosion of glorious stuff that have kept us shaking, then in our toes ...

Crocodiles are the conduit for a 60's acidelic revival on their newest song "Hollow Hollow Eyes" of which is being released on Art Fag in a four-way split with Dum Dum Girls , Graffiti Island and PENS -each band contributing one fuzzed-out pastry of tunes. Currently Croc's are on a tour of Oz and New Zealand performing for masses down under. You can pick up the split 7-inch on the Art Fag website . Crocodiles - Hollow Hollow Eyes
Graffiti Island and pals are on a GG Allin tribute 7inch. It's a great listen.

[MP3] Crocodiles - I Wanna Kill [MP3] Graffiti Island - WolfGuy I went to go see Crocodiles at Spaceland on Thursday night and felt severely jipped to discover that the band plays to a drum machine and bass track. Their live show was good but it certainly lacked a fair deal of punch that a solid rhythm section can offer. I later learned in my youtube musings that the band ALWYAS play to a drum and bass track. My blondeness rears [...]

Thee Oh Sees on the basketball court at the Funhouse The thing I really wanted to do this weekend was head down to Portland for SMMR BMMR , but since that wasn't in the cards, sticking around Seattle was the next best thing. I don't remember a weekend where there were so many bands in town and it wasn't Bumbershoot or Capitol Hill Block Party. My weekend started on Thursday night as all good weekends should, at the Funhouse with Thee Oh Sees and Sic [...]

Once again a selection from the hazy lo-fi punk/psychedelic/noise stuff that's bombarding our players. Stuff from OCS (Thee Oh Sees), Blues Control , Blessure Grave , Ty Segall and Graffiti Island . OCS - Beginning Burning Blues Control - Good Morning Blessure Grave - Reduce you to black smoke Ty Segall - Universal Momma Graffiti Island - Head Hunters

A few months ago I wrote about this do it yourself ethos that has begun to flourish in the indie underground over here in the US. Record Labels popping up like dandelions in the spring and bands jumping from label to label with a 7 inch here, an album there and a cassette on another one. Back in March when I wrote that post it didn't seem like there was a similar thing happening over in the UK. Fast forward to now and those dandelion seeds have blown across the Atlantic and are sprouting. Within the [...]

Best new band this week (and probably coolest new band of the year) are the frighteningly good Crocodiles . 'Summer of Hate', the flipside of debut single 'I Wanna Kill', throbs away like Spacemen 3 finest moments - actually, sounds quite a lot like 'Take Me To The Other Side'. Which is no bad thing. On tour in the states now with the equally good Graffiti Island and The Horrors. Crocodiles - Summer of Hate

Dash Snow July27 1981 - July14 2009 found out kinda late...made me real sad

As you might expect from the title, this is one ungodly clusterfuck of a podcast. It was recorded well into the early hours of the morning with Dylan , Neil and DC who were all in the house by virtue of Homegame being imminent (happening already by the time you hear this) and the Meursault EP being in the final stages of completion. DC stopped by the house on his way to Fife, Neil was around to put CDs into card envelopes and Dylan, er, just likes beer I think. There's was also [...]

As ever, we do things late. We have, of course, a best of the year thang happening, do not fear, we shall be declring it to you with a loving smile during the next few days...first theme is fury, and it goes a little something like this... Or perhaps Fuzz. ...
In no particular order, here are my favourite tune from this year that haven't already been posted on Rose Quartz. This was sort of hard to collate for me because pretty much all my very fav jams were posted here but at the same time pretty easy considering how many amazing songs have come out this year. It's been a little relentless, don't you think? Wavves - So Bored from Wavves [...]

3 Way Split In a rumble of drum and bass, Graffiti Island explode out of the darkness. With charisma to burn and haunting mythical lyrics, the London three-piece band have been gaining popularity through live blog reviews. Having played shows with Ponytail, Gentle Friendly and local London icons PEN, the band has been aptly mentioned for front man Pete Dee's epic crowd wandering and admiration of his fan's. Built on a live reputation without any recorded material released (although a 73 is due out very soon, [...]

After a lot of late nights, panic attacks and tantrums... all i can think is ...Thank fuck we don't have to look at the word press default anymore!
