Slightly older track here that I just came across over the weekend while I was shooting some pool. And while this isn't exactly music you would expect to hear in a pool hall, it definitely stood out to me for all of the right reasons when it first came on. "Free" just has this infectious blend of soul and poppy-folk that immediately catches your ear only seconds into the song. And shortly after it catches your ear it moves on down to your feet and hips where only embarrassing things happen from there on out, but it's [...]
The inaugural Firefly Festival in Dover Delaware proved to be nothing short of amazing. It was everything I imagined a music festival to be. Kicking off on Friday July 20th, and continuing through Sunday night July 22nd, the festival included artists such as Cake, Modest Mouse, The Killers, Lupe Fiasco, and much more. Campgrounds were a few minutes from the site in the woods where the music took place, providing 3-day festival-goers a place to chill out in tents, toss back beers and flip burgers on the grill. I only caught the Saturday performance of the fest, but it was [...]

Sitting in a clearing looking out over the gorge, hundreds of miles in any direction, it's difficult to recall the draw of even the most beautiful cities in the world. Open land, rolling hills, and, of course, the gorge itself cutting down into the Columbia River conjure up dreams of saying, "Fuck it!" and becoming that wandering hippy with a permanent smile that all of our parents are terrified we would eventually become. Then, just off to my right I see three of said perma-smilers and decide to go see some music then head back to Vancouver and my comfortable [...]

photo by Morgen Schuler Hey Marseilles opened the day up on the main stage with a great set of Seattle's favorites. Their vast instrumentation and soaring melodies drew a large crowd for a show so early in the day. As always, their songs sounded fantastic. photo by Morgen Schuler photo by Morgen Schuler photo by Morgen Schuler photo by Morgen Schuler [...]

Alright, you're half way there. Maybe exhausted, maybe not. If so, you have one choice. Overdose on the coffee you brought, or if you forgot to, head to the convenience store and grab a large one. Alternatively, there are always energy drinks... Today your day should also be kicking off at midday. No sleeping in, Hey Marseilles and The Staves are on offer right at the day's start. You've also got to juggle between checking out Todd Barry or Here We Go Magic as well as choose between The [...]

STOP WHAT YOU'RE DOING. Listen to this song. This is Murray James, and he might just be my latest obsession. "In The City" is the title track and first single taken from his upcoming debut album, due July 30th (UK iTunes) on Deconstruction/Sony Music. It's hard to describe his vocal style because it's so unique and original, but I do hear little bits of James Blunt and James Morrison
Graffiti6 is the name of the Pop-esque Indie Rock duo made up of vocalist Jamie Scott and producer and songwriter Tommy "D" Danvers. The two came together in London back in 2008. Since then they've been developing a very smooth and groovy sound that has been characterized by one as a crisp and "infectious alliance of electric piano and offbeat guitar". Jamie Scott and Tommy D are both London-based, multi-talented multi-instrumentalists. Scott grew up surrounded by the soft sounds of soul and folk music. He picked up the guitar, taught himself how to play, and started writing songs [...]
