Counting Crows announce an album of covers to be released in April and release a free track. They're also looking for artists to submit their Counting Crows covers to be included on a free EP.
![[Introducing] – Whitehorse](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4035141_lg.jpg)
Tweet Beginning the record with a dancehall radio ballad dream entitled "Eulogy For Whiskers, Part 13 , Whitehorse certainly set themselves apart from the crowd of country-folk mix that seems to have suddenly permeated the country. What is perhaps even more incredible, though, is the follow-up to this lazy, tripped-out modern take on a ballad is unmistakable rockabilly rock 'n' roll with harmonies to boot on "Killing Time Is Murder" , which is available for free download [...]

"Pick it for me, James..." And mr. Burton, proud veteran of the Elvis band, takes care of business. Q.E.D. Gram Parsons - Return Of The Grievous Angel

Gram Parsons : The New Soft Shoe [ Purchase ] E.L. Cord was a visionary and innovator, the brains behind the famed Cord automobile of the 1920s and '30s. Cords were the first to sport front-wheel drive and retractable headlights. As technologically advanced as his cars were, Cord was known for lavishing even more attention on the way his vehicles looked. That tendency to put style ahead of profits had predictable results. Cord was derided by rivals, and his company, Illinois-based Auburn Automobile, went belly up during the Depression. Later, Cord [...]

Thanks in large part to country-influenced acts like The Byrds, The Grateful Dead and the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, rock fans were starting to dig the country scene — not Nashville's crooners or John Denver, of course, but the Outlaws, Gram Parsons and some of the old pioneers. Some of California rock's great names had their roots in playing bluegrass; people like Eagles co-founder and Flying Burrito Brother Bernie Leadon, the Grateful Dead's Jerry Garcia and the singer-songwriter J.D. Souther, who wrote for the Eagles and Linda Ronstadt, the Texan "Queen of Rock" who made her start as a country [...]

Re-post for GP's birthday. This is called the Barfcast because I feel like utter, unmitigated shite this morning, after another awesome evening with Mrs. Toad getting scooshed and playing records. I think I had Weald on at the maximum volume our amp can actually manage. Which, for the record, is pretty fucking loud. So now I am off to get ready for not one, but three gigs. Firstly the Ides of Toad at Henry's, then Lach and Viv Albertine after that, and then Flamin' Hott Toadzzz! in Anstruther tomorrow. When the chance to have a good sleep comes, I think I will [...]

The traditional country stars — Conway Twitty, George Jones, Tammy Wynette Charlie Rich, Dolly Parton, Charley Pride — were still selling many records in the 1970s, and periodically crossed over to the pop charts. Singers like Donna Fargo evoked the good old days with happy songs like The Happiest Girl In The Whole USA. These were still the Opry years — in fact, in 1972 the Grand Ole Opry opened a theme park called Opryland, and wo years later moved out of its long-time home, the Ryman Theatre, to Opryland. But the Nashville scene no longer monopolised country, [...]

This is a compilation bootleg of Gram Parsons that was 'released' as a two CD album called 'Under Your Spell Again' (on the Colosseum label). The material includes both live and studio recordings that span 1964 through to 1972. Audio quality varies as described below, however as an alternative reflection of Gram Parsons career this is fascinating material. This bootleg was reviewed on the allmusic.com website by Mark Deming as follows - Despite wildly inconsistent sound quality, and several performances of interest only [...]
Joe writes: This is lovely. Country Line reminds me of the mini Gram Parsons revivalist that was around in the nineties. Here are The Rockingbirds with Restless: Here are my two favourite Gram Parsons tracks, A Song For You and The Return Of The Grievous Angel, both featuring Emmylou Harris. I once put one or both of these tracks on a CD for a girl at my sixth form college, along with Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell etc. She couldn't handle the country twang.
Glimpses of country-rock and folk appear on Crooks' EP, Lonesome, Rowdy and Restless. On the memorable "Downtown", a series of spaghetti-western horns pave a smooth road for the soaring vocals of Josh Mazour, whose nasally croon is the driving force behind the quartet's infectiously twangy down-south sound. Somewhat surprisingly, the acoustic progressions [...]

2 things about Gram Parsons - He was way ahead of his time, and looked like a bad ass on his motorcycle.

I didn't make the connection immediately but after reading a short bio on Daniel Romano it clicked where I'd heard the name before, he was one third of the acoustic folk Daniel, Fred and Julie who released an album back in 2009 that collected a lot of positive reviews on net, I never got around to getting that album but collected a pair of mp3's that had got lost and forgotten in my digital library – I aim to remedy this when my eMusic account tops up next month, along with checking out Romano's solo debut . [...]

I've had my head buried in the sand for the past two months. Between a full-time job that sucks my will to live (boo!) and planning a wedding (yay!), I have had little time to scope out new music. Not such a bad thing-it's been nice listening to music from my past with slightly wiser ears ( 5150 is the greatest Van Hagar album of all time!), and cozying up to old vinyl. My latest obsession: Digging for old country records. A friend recently turned me on to Steve Young , whose first two records-his 1969 [...]
