Last year, the excellent Seattle indie sad-core outfit Carissa's Wierd reunited for a one-off concert in their hometown to celebrate the release of a new retrospective compilation , They'll Only Miss You When You Leave: Songs 1996-2003 , via Hardly Art. That release — complete with remastered cuts of "Die" and "The Color That Your Eyes Changed With the Color of Your Hair" — recruited a slew of new listeners while leaving longtime fans hungry for more material. Enter "Meredith & Iris," a new Mat Brooke (Grand Archives, Band of Horses) and Jenn Ghetto-led [...]

Carissa's Wierd , one of Seattle's hidden gems, has surfaced once again. The band is best known for their heart-rending and honest lyrics woven with piano and orchestral strings. Their live shows are intimate, emotional, and hushed. After breaking up in 2003, some members moved on to other prominent musical endeavors such as Band of Horses , Grand Archives , and the solo project of Sera Cahoone . We all thought the tragically sweet music of Carissa's Wierd was laid to rest. Last July, it came as a surprise to hear that the band would celebrate the release [...]
![[Introducing] – The Wooden Birds](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3611957_lg.jpg)
Tweet The Wooden Birds are a reincarnation of a number of different acts - Western Keys, American Analog Set, and Matt Pond PA - coming together to create an organic, unique and folk sound. This quartet - Andrew Kenny, Leslie Sisson, Sean Haskins and Matt Pond - comes to us from Austin, TX. Definitely not a stranger when it comes to the touring music scene, The Wooden Birds have made a new name for themselves by performing at SXSW and making the rounds in Europe and the [...]
Last weekend I heard the Bee Gees disco classic "More than a Woman" on XM radio. It really is the epitome of '70s disco music and while I grew up on this stuff (thanks to the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack which was a staple in everybody's record collection in the late '70s), Barry Gibb's falsetto vocals can be a bit grating at time. But as I listened to the song, I was deconstructing it down to it's bare core and was imaging it being performed by some bearded, indie folk rock act like Iron & Wine. [...]

This time last year I posted my top 40 tracks of 2009. 1. Religious Songs – Withered Hand 2. Two – The Antlers 3. William Henry Miller Pt. 1 – Meursault 4. Rating: 3 out of 5 stars We can easily classify Moondoggies under the realm of folk harmony rock, as that's clearly where their new album, Tidelands , has come to rest. But, while you're likely to use the Northwest as a reference point, due to the band's location, and current trends, there seems to be a bit more nostalgic Americana on this record, which definitely makes it worth your listening ears. Unfortunately, "It's a Shame, It's a Pity" opens up , which [...]
The Moondoggies at Doe Bay 2009 ::: photo by Josh Lovseth We've been counting down the days to this year's Doe Bay Fest since the moment we drove off the Doe Bay Resort property early one sunny morning last August. Now that the fest is finally here, we're having a seriously difficult time focusing on anything [...]

Despite my indifference to their latest album Keep in Mind Frankenstein , I still dig the sounds created by Seattle band Grand Archives . To celebrate their upcoming summer tour, the boys are offering up a free download of a short 3 song/1 video EP entitled The Story So Far... Each song on the EP is taken from a different Grand Archives release. I'll reminisce a bit with "Miniature Birds" from the bands steller self-titled Sub Pop debut. Download: Grand Archives - Miniature Birds [MP3]
Grand Archives are giving away a new three-song EP titled "The Story So Far.." on their website. Don't get too excited it doesn't feature any new material as the title suggest it's short compilation of tracks from the band's past... Click the link to read more
The Grand archives are having an album release party TONIGHT at the tractor, and also decided to give away a 3 song EP with music video. Below you can type in your email and they'll send it to you. I suggest you do that. But I didn't want the video and it makes the file 3x as big, so below you can also download the EP without the video. and here is the EP by the Grand Archives - Story So Far... without the video

The best thing about Band of Horses was the songwriting of Grand Archives (former Archives) frontman Mat Brooke. He and his band are now releasing a Digital EP called "The Story So Far..." on Sub Pop. They are giving it away for free on their website for a limited time. Prelisten all 4 songs and check out the video for "Oslo Novelist" which is also integrated in their player widget here: Free Mp3: Grand Archives - The Story So Far... EP

Because to be honest, the best thing about Band of Horses was the songwriting of Grand Archives frontman Mat Brooke. They're offering up a three-song EP via their website at the moment for the price of one valid e-mail address. No phonies! It pulls jams from the band's relatively young Sub Pop catalogue and also includes a video for Keep In Mind Frankenstein 's high point "Oslo Novelist". Stream it below first if you fancy.
