Sunday Best I wore out Grand National's debut album, Kicking the National Habit , back in 2004-5. Today, I happened across Sunday Best's remix of "Drink To Moving On" - my favorite track from the album. Check it out in this post. Grand National - Drink To Moving On (Sunday Best Sunset Edit] by Sunday Best This remix has been out for four months, but it is an excellent excuse to revisit one of the best tracks of the [...]

Sunday Best 's in-house remixer Julian Peck a.k.a Fear Of Theydon has just released a compilation album of edits he did since 2008 for Rob da Bank's London-based independent label. The record is a celebration of his good work through the years now that he's a former Sunday Best member. Check out my favorite picks here or stream the whole compilation on SoundCloud .

Been hearing a lot of Gothic, Old South-sounding stuff lately, so much so that I've been tempted to reread As I Lay Dying . That seeming like too much effort, I've opted to polish off a few fingers of Maker's Mark, neat, on oppressively humid evenings before retiring. My heart is in the right place, but my liver inevitably pays the price. North Carolina's The Moaners feel me. Melissa Swingle (formerly of Trailer Bride) and Laura King (formerly of Grand National) are back with Nocturnal , a new [...]

I recorded this podcast marooned in the middle of France at my parents' house, with no more musical resources than the compilation CDs I've been taking them constantly since I left home. It was quite weird to poke through all the old songs I've sent home over the years, actually. There's something unavoidably honest about the mixes you make for other people. Look back on the year or the decade yourself and you apply hindsight, selective memory and all sorts, but if you look at the stuff you send to other people then you don't get [...]

This ocean, humiliating in its disguises Tougher than anything. No one listens to poetry. The ocean Does not mean to be listened. A drop Or crash of water. Its mean Nothing. It Is bread and butter Pepper and salt. The death That young men hope for. Aimlessly It pounds the shore. White and aimless signals. No One listens to poetry. "Thing Language" - Jack Spicer Carly Simon - Why Why Single (Mirage [...]

You wake up just after sunrise on an open weekend, sleepwalk yourself to your kitchen and grab the streaming cup of coffee or tea and head over to fogged and rain-pelted window to find out it's the quintessential stay-inside days. What song do you want played in the background at that moment? Me First For a bit, I was chewing the cud deciding if Damien Rice's " Grey Room " or Bon Iver's " Stacks " would accompany the somber and beautiful mood that I would be in. I'm a full-blown optimistic guy [...]

Just a quick post since I have to run some errands and take care of Mom. But, the news is, I joined up with Twitter yesterday. You can find me here . My username is merzmars, of course. Still need to figure a couple things out. Need to setup Twitterfeed so that my blog posts get updated on Twitter and need to setup my mobile phone also. Then I can be a real good fucking Tweeter. Ha! So far, it's glorious fun and quite addictive too. Can't keep my eyes off the updates and love the social networking. Neat [...]

Take a look around. Smile at that stranger. Help an elderly person carry that parcel. Call your mom. Call your dad. Let that by-gone actually be gone. Say your sorry. Add an extra second onto your hugs. Appreciate what you have. Cry a little. Smile more. Dance harder. Pay the toll for the next guy. Sing. Pay good deeds forward. Donate. Plant a tree. Smoke a tree. Buy an album. Get off facebook. Go for a walk. Sniff dem roses. Listen. Procrastinate less. Pro-create more. Ride your bike. Climb a mountain. Laugh. Close your eyes. Travel to where you've never [...]

I was going to wait for a cataclysmic event like the big bang 2.0 where the internet sucks up the rest of the world and all the nerds on my front porch have nothing to talk about except the IRC they had with a girl once and how the sun burns their eyes if they dont cover them with Mt.Dew bottle caps... but I'm sick of waiting and I got better things to do, like wash this girl smell off my sweatpants and write santa a letter about how next year... it's all about me. So here it [...]
This funky joint from John Butler Trio 's 2007 album Grand National will definitely get you groovin on a Friday like you should.
Hace pocos meses lanzaron el sencillo By The Time I Get Home There Won't Be Much Of A Place For Me , un titulo [...]

I need some movement, in more ways than one. Mostly I'm looking for some music to move me, which is kind of pointless, I know, because you can't go looking for something like that to happen, it just does. It hits you over the head and you say, Wow, that's what I've been looking for. Kind of like love. Anyhoo, I like a couple of things I've heard lately. The new TV on the Radio song "Golden Age" is pretty good. I dig the falsettos and [...]
