Pretty hooked on the gloomy, early rock'n'roll-inspired garage tones of Montréal's Grand Trine since Alex Zhang Hungtai aka Dirty Beaches gave us the heads-up via his blog last week. The group around Shub Roy and Tobias Rochman has actually already dropped quite a few very worthwhile things ( go here ), and now there's the excellent cassingle named Euthanize Me , recently put out via Craft Singles , the tiny yet incredible imprint that also brought us my secret obsession Omma Cobba , among others. Very stoked by the video, too. [...]
OK, nearly there folks. Not long until you'll be hearing "great stretch in the evenings" but before then we're delivering some light, and quite a bit of shade, with a collection of ambient sounds, cosmic pop, digital tunes and electro goodness with some guitars and acid house thrown in for good measure. Taking us out of January we start with a fittingly stirring tribute to Trish Keenan by Benoit Pioulard and Rafael Anton Irisarri along with tracks from Wild Vibes , Young Galaxy , Airbird , Keep Shelly in Athens [...]

Montreal (despite the recent ' chill factor ') is always a great place to be. Here's a roundup of some of best stuff going on - Hopefully some of you had the pleasure of catching Sean Nicholas Savage's album release show, to which I certainly did. D'Eon and Silly Kissers, who are undoubtedly some of Montreal's best local bands, opened the show. Unfortunately, I missed them both. If past experience is any gauge in these situations, I'd say they were both probably a helluva good time. D'Eon has a new 123 called [...]

Nazi gold. Now for something completely different: a little bit of mental Canadian garage rock in the form of Montreal-based Grand Trine . A feature on the guys in this month's issue of 'Dazed & Confused' reveals that they're "not only interested in exploring vast musical landscapes, but the inside of each other's assholes as well". Apparently they also consider themselves a modern take on the Velvet Underground . The trio are currently in the process of recording [...]
The latest "episode" of the Tiny Mix Tapes' "Cerberus" column (#14!!!) is now up; check it out for Gumshoe reviews of Rayon Beach (Hozac Records), Blue Sabbath Black Cheer (Gnarled Forest Records), the latest Husk Records compilation and Grand Trine (Divorce Records). It's great to have another outlet for the many Album As Art-esque releases [...]

rondo.de Paulson Kalu Afrikhanah & His Stars 25 - "Ochea Special" An excerpt from The Careful Bartender : The careful bartender takes his time. He prepares with respect to the drink and not to the lineup. Take for instance, the preparation of a Bachelor's Last Stand. It is 1 finger coconut milk, a mouthful of finest brown rum, a third phase of a lime (match the moon for the night of serving), a flicking of water, [...]

The Free Music Archive, a new collaborative project from WFMU, has almost doubled in size since launching in beta this April. With nearly 10,000 curated mp3s, there's a lot to scope out, which is one reason I've been relatively absent from Beware of the Blog recently... well, I'm back with this weekly feature that aims to highlight some "hot new added". Of course I'd rather just highlight everything, but you can keep tabs on that yourself by subscribing to the FMA's Recently Added RSS feed . Or follow us on twitter . Anyway, let's see [...]
