wakey, wakey little zombies oasis - falling down (chemical brothers remix - outlaws re-edit) midnight juggernauts - into the galaxy (grandmaster flash remix)
I've only recently become aqquainted with Midnight Juggernauts. I first heard them on the Fabric rejected Justice mix and I've only recently picked up their impressive debut album 'Dystopia' which definately could have slipped into my top 10 albums of last year if I had been aware of it's August release. They're another fine rock/dance hybrid hailing from Australia, like Cut Copy but a bit rockier or The Klaxons but not shit. "Into the Galaxy" is the second released single from 'Dystopia' and will be released onAugust 11th. As well as the track, the single will include [...]
A fine little piece of cosmic disco, the upcoming second single off Midnight Juggernauts debut album "Dystopia", "Into The Galaxy" will drop on Institubes August 11th. It will feature remixes from Metronomy, Chateau Marmont, Shy Child, Danger, Architecture In Helsinki and last but not least Grandmaster Flash. This sweet looking video was directed by design collective Surface 2 Air . BONUS: Here's the Grandmaster Flash remix. Midnight Juggernauts - Into The Galaxy (Grandmaster Flash remix) (YSI) Midnight Juggernauts - Into The Galaxy (Grandmaster [...]

Last nights Hidden Depths was a roaring success: Unabombers warmed up beautifully, playing lots of quality Disco cuts. The Glimmers were next up and they expertly blended party hits from a plethora of genre's. The special guest was Grandmaster Flash : The Hip Hop legend scratched and cut classics from the likes of The 45 King, White Stripes, Incredible Bongo Band, Nirvana and, of course, a couple of his own joints. The baying crowd lapped it up: Total throw down. There are more events planned later in the summer, check the website for details. [...]
Please stop. I really try to hold back on my "DJ rants", but damn y'all make it tough. What is going on? Is it really that the general populous cannot tell when a DJ is not good? Anyway, I'll try to keep this a bit more constructive, instructional or like a "best practice" type of [...]

I'm going to my mom's birthday celebration today. In recognition of that, here are some mp3s that she probably wouldn't like, but which nonetheless have "birthday" in the title. Patton Oswalt – "You Are Allowed 20 Birthday Parties": mp3 Mission of Burma – "Birthday": mp3 Grandmaster Flash – "The Birthday Party": mp3 Andrew Bird – "The Happy Birthday Song": mp3
As Alfred noted in another post , this has not been a banner year for hip-hop. Very few artists seem to have tried for greatness in 2007, and yet fewer have achieved it. Aside from the mawkish-to-the-point-of-absurd Sean Kingston single "Beautiful Girls," virtually nothing even in the vicinity of hip-hop has interested me in the last 8ish months. For this reason, I'd been listening to little rap new or old lately. Fast forward to last weekend. I took my friend Gabby with me to a DJ gig and she started dropping this old school shit [...]

Via (metsheads.blogharbor.com) Somewhere inside the heart of every man or woman is a soft spot for 80's music. At least I feel this way about anyone born after 1970. So I've decided to start what I call the Wednesday Rewind, a post that may or may not be weekly (also kind of depends of feedback, so if you like it, let me know). We will dive headfirst into the 80's to bring back some classics tracks (five), some you may know, and some you may not. However we will not be alone, we will have our [...]
An essential part of hip-hop history sees a rerelease tomorrow. Originally formed to contribute music to a B-Movie ( The Thing with Two Heads featuring Rosy Grier, see below,) The Incredible Bongo Band recorded the break-beat to end all break-beats with the song "Apache." Used repeatedly at block parties back in the day by legends like Kool DJ Herc , Grandmaster Flash , and Afrika Bambaata , the album Bongo Rock (1973) was a must-have for any practicing DJ. But sadly it went [...]

Genus of Genius Amazing. New to me at least. It's as if the '81 self-titled album cover came to life, animating itself. Bohannon, Bohannon, Bohannon, Bohannon. (can you believe years ago I thought Tina Weymouth was chanting "Mohammed"?) Dr Jeckyll & Mr Hyde - Genius Rap Grandmaster Flash - Its Nasty (Genius of [...]
The Furious Five are big names in hip hop. The group are most famous for the Grandmaster Flash canon but featuring none of his trademark scratching, it's performed solely by the Furious Five, aka Cowboy, Melle Mel, Kid Creolo, Rahiem (from the Funky Four ) and Scorpio. This track is post-1984, so after Flash had left the Five (after suing Sugar Hill Records for unpaid royalties). Melle Mel then upgraded himself to Grandmaster, and provides the main vocals here along with Cowboy and Scorpio. It's more sparse really than most of [...]
The West Street Mob are another one of these which have just vanished. It's pretty much only Grandmaster Flash off this album that's had any lasting significance, which is strange really; I guess these acts were just a snapshot of their time and place which seemed to sum a zeitgeist up. This couldn't be more true in the case of Break Dance/Electric Boogie. If you're under a certain age (I'm close), you could be forgiven for thinking breakdancing has always been a major deal, and in some ways it has. But until Jason Nevins' remix of Run DMC's [...]
Vision dreams of passion and all the while I think of you I have a list as long as my arm of stuff I've been listening to that just hasn't had a look in during the world cup series, but I've promised myself I'm only going to be posting things stuck in my head, or things relevant or particularly interesting to me that day. Hence, Grandmaster Flash . I really enjoyed the whole 'research project' premise of the Festivale De Football, so I'm starting a new series today. Taking a leaf out of this [...]
Surtout connu (...)
