Grass Widow premiered their new track on Gorilla vs. Bear last week. The song, "Disappearing Industries", draws Grass Widow a little deeper in to the garage sound, with their intertwining vocals continuing to be a strong presence. It's a little off kilter this song, pummeling along with these ladies usual blend of beauty and grime, [...]

Disappearing Industries Milo Minute ( previously on CWR) 'Disappearing Industries' is a new tune from San Francisco's Grass Widow , which continues to highlight their ability to create off-beat, aggressive indie rock with their signature [...]

New single from San Francisco's Indie Pop band Grass Widow . Listen to Disappearing Industries . M'LR 036A - GRASS WIDOW - DISAPPEARING INDUSTRIES by M'lady's Records

M'LR 036A - GRASS WIDOW - DISAPPEARING INDUSTRIES by M'lady's Records This morning Gorilla vs. Bear premiered a brand new song from San Francisco female garage-pop trio, Grass Widow . "Disappearing Industries" will be included on a split 73 out February 28 with the band Nature on M'Lady Records (home of Julianna Barwick's debut LP Sanguine as well as GW's S/T record). The band is making custom covers for a very limited run of 300 copies. Related [...]
San Francisco's Grass Widow have a new split 73 (with the band Nature) on the way next month. It comes via M'Lady's Records. The label is relevant, primarily because it is the most recent in a long string for the trio: There was the three-part-harmony laden, '90s-PacNW punk indebted LP Past Time for Kill Rock Stars in 2010, and a self-titled set the year before that for Make-A-Mess. And there was a Captured Tracks 123 that year, too. You don't shift labels each time up to the mic without a little inherent [...]

Last time we heard from San Francisco's Grass Widow , they were ripping " Milo Minute " in the zoo for some psyched gorillas . They one-up that infectious previous single with this awesome new jam, taken from their forthcoming limited split 73 with Nature , out next month on M'lady's Records . " Disappearing Industries " is one of the best things the band's ever done, elevated by the girls' signature bright, exuberant 3-part harmonies and their deceptive, winding, always super catchy melodies. The Grass Widow / Nature split 73 is out [...]

I could've made this list twice as long but I capped it at 50. Most of these are actual singles. The rest should be. Beyond the top ten, ordering is fairly arbitrary. Metronomy - The Look ( MP3 | Video ) I first heard this song back in February and I have yet to tire of it. I wish the keyboard solo outro lasted forever. Exlovers - Blowing Kisses ( MP3 | Video ) Rocking shoegaze pop of the highest order. [...]
Shadow - Grass Widow ...was yesterday's song. And what a song it is. I'll keep this up. The interet is everywhere here.

The 7-inch single has been around since 1949. That's 62 years and counting! In my humble opinion the 7-inch single is still the essence, pinnacle and acme of pop perfection. Optimally, it's one song, one side (Some try to squeeze on more). That's no room for screwing up. You always hear that releasing a 7-inch is a money losing proposition, but that thankfully, doesn't keep pop geeks from doing it. In honor of true blue pop geek vinyl junkies out there, here is the third installment of the annual Finest Kiss top 40 7-inch singles countdown. [...]
Rat Columns "I Wonder" from what rabbit on Vimeo. The always excellent Positive Destruction turned me on to Rat Columns this week. Why is that important? 1. Rat Columns are excellent. Lo-fi, sort of earnestly emotional fuzz in a completely disarming way. 2. Rat Columns features members of other amazing bands like Total Control (whoa, these guys might melt [...]
Shannon and The Clams new video for the ultra-thrashy track "Toxic Revenge." The appropriately John Waters-like video is directed by Hannah Lew, she of Grass Widow fame. Absolutely baffled, absolutely in love. Shannon and The Clams are playing at ATA (in the Mission) on Sunday with Buffalo Tooth and Primitive Hearts. Toxic Revenge from Renny McCauley on [...]

2 - I WONDER by ROS RECORDS Rat Columns have a new video for their song "I Wonder," directed by experimental filmmaker and Grass Widow 's bassist, Hannah Lew . Lew has made films for a ton of local bands, including Shannon and the Clams, Hunx and his Punx, her own band, and Frankie Rose and the Outs. Shot by Aubree Bernier-Clark, "I Wonder" has a pleasing editing aesthetic - we love the triple-frame shots and fuzzy film quality. The song is on [...]
Haven't we all gotten tired of that generic tinny lo-fi garage guitar sound? Upward and onward to newer and more glorious fuzz, I say. Down with the old! Appreciate the garage records of yore only for what made them good, or what was awful to the point of being interesting. The b-side rave-up is not

Here's an absolutely killer cut from the relatively obscure Neo Boys, a group named for this Patti Smith phrase and touted as one of Portland, Oregon's first all-female punk groups. "Time Keeps Time" is taken from the 1982 EP Crumbling Myths , one of only two releases by the band along with their self-titled 1980-released 7". The punchy persistent drums and at turns surf-inspired and muted guitars of "Time Keeps Time" create an unsteady and irresistible wave-like force teeming with electricity. Big thanks to ET favorites Grass Widow for this introduction. The San Francisco-based band's recent [...]

We're on the other side of CMJ now, which you could probably tell by the uptick in the music news cycle, or by some bloggers' (could be any bloggers, no way to know who I am talking about) bleary eyes and corresponding level of risibility. Stereogum threw some a couple of parties early on , then shifted into showcase-hopping mode. Herein you'll find a hand-selected collection of the finest and most representative photos of CMJ 2011 from our crew of exceptional photographers - Erez Avissar , Ryan Muir , and Jessica Amaya - [...]

That chill needlepoint leopard you see above graces the cover of You're Never Going Back , the excellent forthcoming debut full-length from Brooklyn's Coasting . Their label M'Lady's describes the record as " equal parts New Zealand lava, Memphis smoke, Pacific Northwest mist, and New York thunde r," all of which are represented nicely on standout track " Portland ." You're Never Going Back is out November 15 ; pre-order right here . Coasting :: Portland

The San Francisco band Grass Widow braids apparitional vocals over distorted post-punk riffs. At the center of its songs are the troika harmonies of Lillian Maring (drums), Hannah Lew (bass) and Raven Mahon (guitar), who contribute vocals equally, echoing the band's process. Grass Widow's lyrics, matched with its cautiously joyous beats, reflect its vision of the world: a mysterious Ozlike land in which the surface looks radiant and colorful but with a thinly veiled underside that reveals a fearful and fateful ethereal reality. [...]

Grass Widow is an all-female post-punk trio from San Francisco who formed in 2007. In 2009, they released their self-titled debut LP on Make-A-Wish Records and a follow-up on Kill Rock Stars in 2010 entitled Past Time . They are currently touring in support of their newest release, a 7" entitled Milo Minute (the first in a series of releases entitled Common Chord, which will be on the HLR imprint), which includes two covers—Wire's "Mannequin" off of the classic LP, Pink Flag , and "Time Keeps Time" by Neo Boys, an early 80s [...]
