Don't miss the official release party for Ty Segall 's Melted , this Sunday at Bottom of the Hill (8pm, $8/10, All Ages), featuring the ridiculously excellent supporting lineup of Grass Widow , Sonny & The Sunsets , and The Baths . Via Stereogum , here's a new one from Grass Widow, off the band's upcoming album Past Time : Grass Widow - "Shadow"

The San Francisco trio Grass Widow have a new album coming out this summer. Download one of the new tracks below. The album is called Past Time and it's due out August 24 on Kill Rock Stars . Shadow [ via ] Myspace Widow.

Let's talk architecture: If punctual clear-toned bass play, angular distorted guitar riffs, and precisely scattershot drumming make up the foundation of San Francisco trio Grass Widow 's music, then the group's arresting three-part harmonies are like the skylight—a breathtaking wash of sunshine that gives life to an old rock formula. While the ladies put the finishing touches on their forthcoming full-length Past Time —due out August 24th via Portland's Kill Rock Stars—make sure to check out their stellar self-titled EP, available for purchase digitally here . Grass Widow - "Shadow" From Past Time , out 8/24 on Kill Rock Stars .

The Forgery Series is a solo proj from Obits guitarist Sohrab Habibion along with some friends from Garden Variety. , Radio 4 , and Gas Huffer . They are "trying to tone it down a bit and make it less overtly rock," but that may change as they they refine what they are doing. They are playing their 3rd show on Friday night (probably just after 8pm) @ Mercury Lounge with Disappears , The Ponys and Woven Bones . Here is their tribute to [...]

This week The Aerosols', a really incredible psych pop band from San Francisco, is making the pilgrimage east to play four New York shows, one of which is a PopJew joint (at the Silent Barn this Thursday with My Teenage Stride, Dream Diary, and The Surprisers). I saw them in a recent trip to San Fran and had one of those "OMG PSYCH HAS BEEN MISSING FROM MY LIFE" moments that we all have every so often. To celebrate their visit, I've made you a mix in thei...

In exciting news: the ever-fabulous Bay-area trio, Grass Widow are now signed to Kill Rock Stars and their new album, Past Time, will be released on August 24th. The band's fun garage rock punk has been slipping in some more psychedlic elements of late, so I'll be excited to see what their first true full length will turn out like. Drummer Lily Maring ( Yes Please , Pet Club ) is a musical force to be reckoned with and I believe that any band with her on board will probably rule the world sooner or later. Maybe [...]

The first tune from SF's Grass Widow is kinda like my week—or year, for that matter—sweet spots punctuated by moments of full-on freakouts. Next is some raw 'n fun rawk from Harlem (thanks for the tip, Sergio ). Then ex-frontman for an SF band I listened to when living in Cole Valley, Beulah . The new Banksy movie trailer turned me on to this Richard Hawley track. Wrapping it up is Shiryu's Tron Legacy Remix . Hot shit. Hop on a bike and go light shite up! • • [...]

We're back again this week with a wonderful eclectic mix of bangers; from the great David Bowie to a band we've played constantly in Fergus & Geronimo to smooth 80s montage sounds of Moss Of Aura. On top of that you get to hear Nate and my silky-smooth vocals for an hour. The playlist is below and to listen at 4pm CST go here . 1) Javelin - Mossy Woodlands 2) Teenanger - Too Nice To Say No 3) Gauntlet Hair - I Was Thinking... 4) Twin Sister - Lady Daydream [...]

Thee Oh Sees , a band not know for idleness, are set to release another album of garage-rock proportions. Warm Slime comes out on May 11th via In the Red , who also released 2009's Help . Of course, the band's also been releasing a seemingly endless series of 73s and EPs over the past year, as well as the Dog Poison album on Captured Tracks . From the sound of things (i.e. "I Was Denied"), Thee Oh Sees are continuing in their tradition of experimental lo-fi, [...]

Friday started at Club DeVille at another Brooklyn Vegan event. Greenpoint, Brooklyn band Twin Sister were playing an early set at noon. A Lunch time gig, or breakfast rather, for the late risers in Austin is a toughone . The band sounded ok, maybe a little sleepy. I really like their freely downloadable ep Vampires with Dreaming Kids, but they didn't play my favoirte song from it, the Cocteau Twins-like Ginger. Up to this point corporate America had been hidden from [...]

SXSW. De lo que nos salvamos. Pero [...]

Yesterday we posted a preview of over 180 bands that we feel are worth checking out at South by Southwest. Today we focus on 25 artists that are among the best of the 2000+ participating bands at SXSW. The futures of these bands are bright, and we certainly recommend seeing them play at least once during the festival in Austin this weekend. Allo, Darlin' (Myspace) Hometown: London, England Label: WeePop, Fortuna Pop Allo, Darlin' - Dear Stephen Hawking [...]

[if you're so lucky to have access to Spotify, you can start up this playlist of Captured Tracks-highlights while reading the blogpost. Most of these releases are also available in digital shops like emusic and itunes.] I'm very much into the sound of the Captured Tracks label these days, and I've found several goodies among their releases. My personal highlights have so far been Wild Nothing 's shoegazy poptrack "Summer Holiday" and the equally fantastic b-side "Vultures like lovers", Beach Fossils [...]

So, I am not going to SXSW this year, but if I was here is a selection of mp3s from bands I would want to see. I was able to whittle down the list to 40 songs. No easy task. Listen. Downloadables: Mossy (mp3) by Aa Raindrops in the River (mp3) by Autumn Owls And It Goes (mp3) by Bad Sports Big Weapons Anthem (mp3) by [...]

And so it begins. Every year, we listen to mp3's of every band scheduled to appear at SXSW. We then present you with an A to Z preview of the bands that we think should earn your attention. Whether you're coming down to SXSW (recommended!) or just looking for new music, there's no better time of year. There's a variety of music here, so buckle up for some different sounds. We'll be previewing two letters per day, which'll take us right up to SXSW Music Week. Then we'll give you our picks for the [...]
