Taking their holy union to another level, husband and wife production duo Mike Paradinas aka µ-Ziq and Lara Rix-Martin introduce listeners to their complexly magical world of synthesized fusion. Releasing their forthcoming album, Love & Devotion on the label he founded, heralded producer, µ-Ziq unearths a fine-tuned magnetism with his latest project. Craftily reinventing what we understand to be new wave, pop and electronic under the pseudonym Heterotic , this distinct brand of musical inspiration has progressed music forward in one clean swoop. On Heterotic’s opening track, ‘Bliss,’ charming, unwarranted melodies [...]

It's really hard to narrow down a list of Top Albums of 2012, especially when you have four contributors with different opinions. We gave the reins to Nathan.Lankford and Nicole Baumann on this one, since they write the majority of the album reviews, but we all have a little representation within this. Now, we do realize that our site has specialized tastes, so please realize that these are our OPINIONS . You're welcome to disagree, and, in fact, we encourage that process. Also, we're doing a Top 100 because so many records came out this year, it wouldn't be fair to narrow [...]

As I listen to the recordings, last week’s Gravenhurst gig in Bristol is growing and growing in my mind. They’ve come out really well, Talbot’s complex playing and brittle voice are very clear, as are the strength of his songs and how personable and likeable the man is. Here are three more songs, (you really should listen to these…) I Turn My Face to the Forest Floor Black Holes in the Sand Circadian [...]

Standing at the Louisiana, Tuesday night, waiting for a graceful Gravenhurst to make their way into a stuffy upper room, I was struck by the thought that I’d not been here for a good three months. I don’t mean “here at the Louie” (my maiden visit, as you’re asking), but “here, tippy-toed with excitement in front of an empty stage, sound-check completed, guitars tuned and a-ready, waiting for some… Live Music once again”. Gravenhurst In short, Gravenhurst are the first band I’ve seen since the Summer, since the [...]
Full vocal recovery is now complete, much to everyone’s evident delight... Went gigging and giggling with Mr Nightshift last night to celebrate. We started off with a drink in a local Oxford hostelry that I hadn’t frequented since being thrown up against the wall outside by someone who wanted me to be “their girlfriend”. Should have just asked really. Or noted my then boyfriend waiting inside the pub. Anyway, after viewing the support band that sounded like a load of bad feedback (must be our age), we legged it to a different pub. Huzzah: fairy lights [...]

So that was End of the Road. Lordy! I had a ball, really, a much brighter experience than Green Man this year. To be honest, I’m not sure if it’s because of the weather (GM = foul; EotR = mostly fine), but for me End of the Road far outshone Green Man in pretty much every respect. I was very impressed with EotR – they just seemed to do everything right. Hmmm… next year… Lucky Seven - Best of End of the Road ‘12 I’ve not been entirely [...]
