The list of records I'd like to review for 9b is so long that if I stare at it for too long I get discouraged, pour a tumbler of whiskey and give up for the night. Then there is this other list, the list of albums I like enough to want to cover, but can't really thing of anything to say about them. So I thought I'd revive the old " Two Sentence Review " segment and cover some of them. Great American Taxi - Paradise Lost Lazy americana [...]
Sorry for the absence of this here column last week; I got hit with an acute case of tonsillitis which definitely killed my Monday pretty badly. Felt like I was swallowing razorblades....but the good news is that it got me to the doctor to get some killer horse-pills to clear my junk up, so I [...]

Despite all the critical press and legions of faithful fans, there's fewer Uncle Tupelo and Wilco cover versions out there than you would expect. On the occasion of Jeff Tweedy's 44th birthday we dig up a handful to share with you.

Earlier this year the Dave Matthews Band announced that they'd be taking all of 2011 off from recording and touring, with DMB currently scheduled to conclude their year with two shows at at the John Paul Jones Arena in Charlottesville, VA on November 20 and 21. This week is shaping up to be a pretty special week for Blue Plate Specials at WDVX. For those who don't know, the BPS is a live, free concert that takes place every day at noon in downtown Knoxville and is broadcast live on WDVX and WDVX.com. The cool thing about this coming week is that the Americana Music Conference takes place this weekend in Nashville... and The Bristol Rhythm and Roots Reunion takes place next weekend in Bristol, TN and VA. What city lies directly between Nashville and Bristol? Yep... Knoxville. [...]

I've had another CD review published over at the Country Standard Time website. This time it's the new release from Leftover Salmon alum Vince Herman and his current project Great American Taxi . Great American Taxi's new release Reckless Habits has just been released on Thirty Tigers Records, and you can read my review of the album by following this link . Here's one tune from the album to give you a little taste [...]

Loosely polished album of country, blues, bluegrass, boogie and rock 'n' roll The second album from this funky jam-band exhibits the same sort of artistic serendipity with which the group was born. In the wake of Leftover Salmon's demise, front-man Vince Herman hooked up with Chad Staehly and a hand-picked group of local musicians for a charity performance that spawned Great American Taxi. The polished looseness of Leftover Salmon's jam-band legacy informs the new group's music, as do the New Orleans influences found on songs like "Baby Hold On" and "Mountain Top," but there's [...]

[In the interest of mixing it up this afternoon ...] Hello, Los Angeles jam band fans. I know you're out there, cradling your Bonnaroo tickets, reading Jambands.com, waiting for that "Phish 3D" concert film . Here's something a little closer to home — the Colorado-based quintet Great American Taxi has a new album out, and are en route to L.A. "Reckless Habits" finds frontman Vince Herman (Leftover Salmon) and pals in familiar territory, which is to say covering a lot of ground — country, bluegrass, [...]

2009 has shaped up to be quite a year for HT faves Blind Pilot . The Portland-based act have logged a lot of miles on the road over the course of the last six-plus months with headlining tours, festival appearances and holding down the opening slot for a number of big name bands which include the likes of The Decemberists, Gomez and the Counting Crows. Showing no signs of slowing down, Blind Pilot will head out yet again for another round of dates with a two-month run that kicks off on October 9 - with The Low [...]

I have a good friend who was in a great late 80's & early 90's SF band called Bomb... They are just awfully under appreciated and more so each day, and perhaps rightly so... but I thought I'd share a few tracks that were faves of mine... Their music was dark, silly, evil, booming and loud... and aside from all those good things...despite even a year or so of major label status, remains relatively obscure... So here's some Bomb mp3'z below for the hundreds of y'all that stop by each day... [...]
