Photo Credit: Asli Alin Great Lake Swimmers have released a new video for the title track of their new album, New Wild Everywhere . The video was directed by Adam Makarenko, and features the band in a CGI'd version of Toronto. Why not use real footage of Toronto, you ask? Because it starts ripping apart into floating clumps of Earth. Watch the new video below. Read more »

Some people have sex in unusual places. Tony Dekker, mastermind behind Canadian country folksters Great Lake Swimmers , makes music in such locations, trying to capture their energy and acoustics – churches, subway stations, castles, tiny islands named Just Room Enough or, well, a grain silo. That's probably why Tony's music is about as sexy as Hank Williams' clothbrush. It's tender though, calm and serene, alternative country all the ruggedly sensitive way. In that sense, The Great Lake Swimmers' recent album New Wild Everywhere is surely neither new nor wild, but a respectable one, recorded for the first time [...]
Great Lake Swimmers dropped their fifth long-player, New Wild Everywhere , earlier this month, and it wasn't long after that the album's title track got a video treatment to go alongside it. Directed by Adam Makarenko , it's a charmingly animated vision of Toronto engulfed by wilderness, with the band pushed into the clouds to watch as the city skyline gets taken by trees. The lush hues and that jumpy cinematography make for a particularly striking visual piece, echoing the band's sunny choruses that drives the whole thing home. If you've yet to check out the record, then there's [...]
"I never gave you the best part of me," Tony Dekker sings on "Think That You Might Be Wrong", one of the dreamiest tracks from New Wild Everywhere, his Canadian ensemble's fifth album. To the listener, this can be taken as a promise of good things to come. It's been four years since Great Lake Swimmers released Lost Channels, an album widely praised for its level of polish and artistic maturity, and fans of Dekker's soft vocals and evocative arrangements will find plenty to satisfy the anticipation they've harbored in that time. [...]

Here is this week's music singles chart for the week ending April 15 - 21. So we have a new #1 and it goes to Kingston's PS I Love You. Sentimental Dishes/Princess Towers are taken from the upcoming album "Death Dreams" which drops on May 8th. Love both of these tacks and can't wait for the new album. There are new debuts from Great Lake Swimmers and Bear In Heaven. Just for kicks in this week's chart, I added Gotye thanks in part of SNL and Glee's version of the song. Check it out! [...]

Shervin Iainez Rose Cousins is not a new artist. The Charlottetown by way of Halifax artist has been releasing music for the better part of a decade and I've technically heard her before as she's guested on any number of Maritime-born records including Joel Plaskett's, but I'd not heard any of her own material until her third full-length album We Have Made A Spark , released at the end of February. And clearly that's been my loss. It's not a record that stops you in your [...]

Great Lake Swimmers New Wild Everywhere Nettwerk Records [2012] Fire Note Says: Great Lake Swimmers should please fans with another staple of folk tinged indie rock on their fifth LP New Wild Everywhere . Album Review: New Wild Everywhere is the fifth long player from Canada's indie folk rock group Great Lake Swimmers. It is a record that will please fans as it [...]
This is a charming and solid album, but for all Dekkar's ability to evoke landscape in his lyrics, their effect is dulled without a recording atmosphere to match them. Great Lake Swimmers has always been a band - or a vehicle for frontman Tony Dekkar's songs - about atmosphere. The eponymous debut record from 2003 was recorded in an abandoned silo. Bodies and Minds, the follow-up, was recorded in a church, while the third record, Ongiara, was made in Aeolian Hall, a famous music venue in Ontario. Lost Channels, the band's 2009 record, was culled from sessions in various [...]

Filed under: News , Exclusive Nettwerk Toronto folk-rock outfit Great Lake Swimmers ' music reflects a love of nature that's been ingrained in the band's singer-songwriter Tony Dekker since his youth on a farm in the small Canadian community of Wainfleet, Ontario. Not only do the band love nature, but they live it, having recorded music in national parks , paddling through the sea , and even creating 2009's Polaris Prize [...]

Frank Yang What's better than hearing a new album on the day that it's released? How about hearing it live? Okay, the former might have carried a little more weight a decade ago when records weren't consistently available to stream online well before they were available to buy, but there's still something special about the latter. So it was pretty nice of Great Lake Swimmers to mark the release of their fifth album New Wild Everywhere this past Tuesday with a full-band, plugged-in in-store performance at Sonic [...]
