Today's short story is from one of my favorite authors of short fiction and the man who inspired Robert Altman's Short Cuts , the brilliant Raymond Carver. Carver was one of the great writers of the 20th Century, a man who once described himself as, "hooked on writing short stories." This past Saturday, I headed out to my favorite place to catch music in Chicago, Schubas , to catch Great Lake Swimmers . After sitting through a couple of unmemorable opening acts Tony Dekker and crew finally hit the stage around 11:40. Getting to the Hotel Cafe by doors open at 7 o'clock is a transit impossibility. I loaded This American Life's - 24 Hours at the Golden Apple for the ride, which made the hour long/11 mile trek not only bearable but quite a nice start to the evening.
