Yesterday Sonic Boom hosted a pretty full afternoon/evening of free music in honour of International Record Store Day and although I wasn't able to stay for the whole thing, I did catch the first four bands. In the spirit of musical appreciation, diversity was the order of the day with all of the bands bringing something unique to the table. My vote for most improved band goes to Hooded Fang , whom I have now seen three times in only a few months. I always liked them, [...]

In the year since releasing their sold-out debut self-titled EP on homegrown launching-pad label / musical collective Burnt Oak Records, Green Go has quickly outgrown their neighborhood hero status and garnered a reputation among tastemakers far beyond their hometown for burning up stages. 2008 saw them winning crowds for series Kazoo, No Shame, Wavelength & Steamwhistle's Indie Unsigned & festivals Pop Montreal, Canadian Music Week, & North-by-Northeast, sharing bills with like-minded party bringers Think About Life, Woodhands, The Magic, Bocce & OPOPO. Though the stages & the audiences have expanded exponentially with every performance, Green Go refuses to [...]

Green Go is an Ontario (Guelph) Electro-punk house group who recently put together an amazing group of remixes titled Green Go Remix Project Vol. 1. The group is comprised of five members, they are Ferenc Stenton, Jessica Tollefsen, Kyle Squance, Mark A., Adam Scott. The band is preparing the world for the release of their debut full length album titled Borders which releases in April. The band chose some very strong tracks from 2008 to remix, including the track from WOMEN's self titled album Black Rice, and the track from D'Urbervilles album We Are the Hunters titled Dragnet. The remix. Really common in this generation we're living in. Problem is that I hear so many of them that make songs worse than the same or better. Its rare that I come across one that peaks my interest as an artist building upon a previous artists work with something new. Guelph's Green Go have recently recorded a bunch of remixes that fall into that rare category. Here are some of their versions of Canadian indies ( Gentleman Reg, The Rural Alberta Advantage, D'Urbervilles, Born Ruffians ). I'd recommend you check out Sleep All Day [...]

Who : Green Go from Guelph. What : From their debut album to be released in May, here's Guelph's dance-party inciting Green Go with Watch Your Step . Their music has started to infiltrate campus radio here in Canada as well as the CBCr3 podcast, now they've on the road in Ontario ( myspace ). The sound is something that fits on a mixtape with Think About Life , Woodhands , or Shout Out Out Out Out . Do [...]

I've never been to Guelph, Ontario as far as I can recall. But thankfully it's close enough to my city that us Torontonians get more than a healthy dose of the musical offerings of the hometown of Robert Munsch . Bands such as the D'Urbervilles, the Magic, and others have built an ever-growing fan base outside of their hometown, generally lead by us big city kids. Next on the list of Guelphites with rising profiles is the sweaty dance party starters commonly known as Green Go . Lead by the shared keyboard/vocals [...]

I brought a new little kitten into my household last month. So far, so good. My older cat, The Chairman Meow, has adapted well to miss Imelda Meowcos. And by that I mean, he sometimes pins her to the carpet with his giant jaw. Enjoy that while you can, buddy. She's getting bigger every day. Sigh. They grow up so fast! I'm leaving them alone together for more than 24 hours for the first time tomorrow morning and I'm a little nervous. I've been [...]
