A flashbulb memory of Green Velvet came to mind today. I remember distinctly just how Green Velvet's music came across to me. It was my grade 10 year in high school, and my buddy and I were diddly daddling on the internet during Media Arts (actually, all we did was mess around on the internet and still received 80's). He told me to check out the yahoo music site and once there, I randomly clicked on various songs and artists. The words La La Land caught my eye, left clicked, [...]

We hustled like whoa to get to Webster Hall at a decent hour after the Famous Friends party this past Friday because it was a Dim Mak takeover, which usually means three things: Steve Aoki, vodka and Steve Aoki pouring vodka down questionably of-age girls' mouths. And while all three of these things happened, the party itself was way radder than that mere fact. It was a retarded starfuck-worthy night (if you look at the Twitter feeds of any of NYC's marquee DJs/producers/partiers, you'll see what we mean) and watching Steve Aoki drop tracks [...]

Nine times out of ten when a previously underground-ish artist makes the cross over to mainstream music, it almost entirely ruins their image in the eyes of the truly musically zealous, and though I'm continually trying to deny the fact that publicity can change an artist in my own eyes, I fear that my attempts are becoming more and more pathetic with each new development in the industry. After having witnessed the nomination of Justice's remix of MGMT 's Electric Feel for the category "Best Remixed Recording of 20093, it has become impossible for me to [...]

It's time for a story. This one is a tad work related and hopefully you'll feel something after reading. It begins with my manager, who orders this WICKED meal from (restaurant name withheld...middle eastern food though) that contains rice, shawarma , and garlic sauce. I asked how much it was, $5.00. Last tuesday , I decided to grab me one of those bad boy meals and I was charged $5.93. A little bothered, but I was damn hungry so I let it slide. On wednesday , my manager orders the same thing but was charged [...]

It looks like Immuzikation is back from his self-imposed internet time out and I think we are all happy about his return. I'm sure yall already picked up his previous songs that signaled his triumphant return. All the tracks are spectacular and I'm including them below for all you stragglers. The track that has me posting right now though is his new Santogold and Treasure Fingers blend. I already told you it has Santogold and Treasure Fingers so I don't really know what else to say to make you wanna listen to this track. If it [...]

lastnightsparty I'll start off with what? This hasn't been posted yet? The Alfa remix of Jupiter. I posted his remix of Cryptonites a while back which he won from the Cryptonites remix competition. Fantastic track, clean for electro. Second is the Shadow Dancer vocal mix of The Faint 's The Geeks Were Right which was from the Futureflashs mix. Thought it was quite retro and strange sounding, all the better. And lastly, another Immuzikation mash-up [...]

Andrea and I have been practicing most of yesterday and early parts of this morn in preparation of this event. [...]

Whenever my father purchases anything technological, he waits until I visit him in Maryland before he even attempts to read a manual - his reasoning being: "reading the damn manual just makes it more confusing." My father is 54 years old, born and raised in Sumter (Butt-Fuck), South Carolina, and a retired Master Sergeant of the U.S. Air Force. His unwillingness to dabble in "complicated" electronics has really come as a surprise to me recently, especially since he pretty much collects really expensive electronics, most of which he acquired while stationed in Japan during the 80s. I guess things are [...]

There is something very exciting about a lot of songs by Green Velvet , the alter ego of Curtis A. Jones. This song is no exception to that, with its pulsating rhythm, its alienating lyrics and its trippy bleeps. Check it out, together with a Cajmere remix. Cajmere is just another alter ego of the same man, by which he made a lot of remixes for Green Velvet songs. Sounds schizofrenic, don't it ? [...]

Our good friend De-Esser from Holland just sent us this bangin' remix of Green Velvet's La La Land De-Esser Myspace Green Velvet Myspace Music: Green Velvet - La La Land (De-Esser remix) [Mediafire]

Trash Yourself is a boy/girl duo out of Oklahoma who recently spent some time in NYC. They're no strangers to the scene, working on collaborations with France's Toxic Avenger & Brooklyn's own AC Slater . While these tracks could be classified as made for the dance floor "club bangers", they are definitely more than just a compressed 4/4 beat and a punchy, distorted bassline. Heidi's vocals and John's production/drum breaks add that little something that make these tracks just as suited for your IPod playlist as your latest Ableton creation. Also, check out the interview with [...]

A couple more tracks from the charity shop rummage, with the focus firmly on techno. A sort of three-in-one, since there's techno don Dave Angel and legend Green Velvet, both mixed by techno heavyweight Dave Clarke. First up Dave Angel. Dave Angel was one of the original UK techno dons. His sound was closest to the sound of Detroit and Carl Craig. Perhaps for that reason, he had far less attention than he deserved in the UK. He even recorded for Belgian label Apollo and R&S. Next up, Green Velvet (Curtis [...]

Trash Menagerie pretty much had The Hydroz covered at the beginning of the year, but thanks to a heads up from Tommie Sunshine I felt more than compelled to post about these guys. Straight from Miami the 'Home of the Bass' Ash-Rock & JimiTheGenius joined forces last year to bring The Hydroz style which varies from Miami Bass edits to Electro House to Mash-Ups and anything else in between. They recently remixed Babyanne's 'Thumper' which was released on Zone, along with the upcoming Deekline & Ed Solo track 'Lo Rider', and they're always working on [...]
