Considered in the moment, the Mark Lanegan Band's new album "Blues Funeral" seems the perfect antidote to today's falsetto-wielding pop stars and harmony-high folkies. Of course, Lanegan's moment has been going on for nigh three decades now, from his early work with grunge gods Screaming Trees to collaborations with Queens of the Stone Age, the Twilight Singers, the Gutter Twins, Soulsavers and Isobel Campbell. And he's never sounded more real than he does on his first solo album since 2004 — the 47-year-old possesses a voice that conjures up more horrors than Stephen King, and over the course [...]

Wikipedia I was having a little trouble coming up with something to say about this week's selection by Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds and taken from the 1991 Leonard Cohen tribute album I'm Your Fan , but happily a little plumbing around the tubes of the internet turned up this little piece at chromehorse (chrome solidarity!) that corroborates the bit at Wikipedia on the song. Which is basically that Cave and company got wrecked before recording a marathon-length jam on "Tower Of Song" [...]

I have to say that I really can't get enough of Greg Dulli. Finding something as amazing as this performance is especially exciting for me as a music lover. Rollingstone had this to say: "Afghan Whigs and Twilight Singers frontman Greg Dulli recorded this version of Leonard Cohen's "Paper Thin Hotel" as part of Old Ideas with New Friends, a new series of Cohen covers by artists such as Deerhunter's Bradford Cox, Old 97s' Rhett Miller, Cold War Kids and the New Pornographers' [...]
Watch Afghan Whigs' Greg Dulli cover Leonard Cohen's 'Paper Thin Hotel' for a Rolling Stone session.

On January 31st, Leonard Cohen will release Old Ideas , his first studio album in eight years. In honor of his return to the spotlight, Rolling Stone is holding a cover series called Old Ideas With New Friends , where various musicians and devotees rework classic tracks from Cohen's catalog. Kicking off the series is Afghan Whigs head honcho Greg Dulli 's cover of "Paper Thin Hotel" (from 19772s Death of a Ladies' Man ). In explaining his decision to tackle this [...]
Greg Dulli, the once and future leader of the Afghan Whigs, is a man who knows a few things about whiskey-soaked baritones and libertine poetics, so he's the kind of guy you'd want to hear covering a Leonard Cohen song. And he's now done just that, participating in Rolling Stone 's Cohen cover series "Old Ideas With New Friends." In the live-in-studio video below, Cohen does a polished and impressive take on " Paper Thin Hotel ," a song from Cohen's album Death Of A Ladies' Man . Be warned: The video autostarts, and you may have to [...]

Twilight Singers began in 1997 as a side-project for Afghan Whigs frontman Greg Dulli. When the Whigs disbanded in 2001, Twilight Singers became the primary vehicle for releasing Dulli's new material. Released in 2004, She Loves You was Dulli's third release under the Twilight Singers moniker, collecting eleven sultry, slightly debaucherous covers. Dulli is known for both his fondness for reinventing other popular songs, and for his ability make even a simple love song sound like a naughty come on. Indeed, Dulli sounds like the type of guy who just might be pretty good at convincing sweet, [...]

Filed under: Concerts and Tours , News Dove Shore, Getty Images Afghan Whigs are the latest band to succumb to the reunion fever that is running rampant on both sides of the Atlantic. Back in the day, Greg Dulli's wailing soul-rock band the Afghan Whigs lent a much-needed air of sex and danger to an alt-rock era dominated by Seattle-style self-flagellating. The band broke up in 2001, but next year, they'll get back together to headline two big shows for All Tomorrow's Parties. Read More...
The latest installment of All Tomorrow's Parties' "I'll Be Your Mirror" festival series will take place from May 25-27th at London's Alexandra Palace. Unfortunately, there has been a shuffle in the lineup. Due to personal reasons , Guided by Voices have canceled their headlining performance, originally set for Sunday, May 27th, 2012. In lieu of the cancellation, however, the festival has tagged legendary outfit The Afghan Twins to headline, making it their first appearance in 13 years. There were also more confirmations to the lineup. In addition to headliners Slayer, who will perform Reign In Blood [...]
