At long last our best albums of 2012 have arrived. 2012 proved to be a magical music year for indie rockers and time-tested MUF favorites. We've scoured our resources ...
As we step into 2013, we gladly continue our journey all the way down to the #1 song of 2012. But that doesn't mean it will be popular per ...

Click here for Numbers 20-11 10. FUN. - SOME NIGHTS This was a group no one could get away from. I wasn’t a fan of all the synth and autotune at first, but eventually it grew on me. I discovered The Format a long time ago and fell in love with that group. And while I wish The Format was still around, fun. is doing a pretty good job at keeping the music going. fun. - Some Nights [...]
Tonight we celebrate the variety of music that is being held in Philadelphia, both by genre and locale. The Fishtown indie / chamber fivesome, Turning Violet Violet released their record Double Cure in May and we were lucky enough to do a Key Studio Session with them around the same time. The album was recorded, ... Continue reading
There's something about passionate British artists that American songwriters just can't seem to capture within their songs. When you hear Snow Patrol or Coldpla y, you KNOW they are British bands - they just have that overly dramatic sound. Greg Laswell is from ... California (!!!) ... but somehow he pulls off that soundtrack-style music. It's touchy, it's dramatic, it's custom-made for network TV dramas (on which Laswell's music gets plenty of exposure). On his fifth release, Landline , Laswell tried something a little different - he invited [...]

DOA
A remarkably poignant, lush, and memorable album by an powerful singer/songwriter.
This is definitely a weekend reserved for rock with Rock for Pussy, a tribute to David Bowie at First Ave. on Friday and Rock the Vine, a day reserved for music and wine tasting, on Saturday. Minneap

I discovered Greg Laswell when I was a music-enthused college blog surfer, back in 2008 (see my first GL track below...it is beautiful in every sense of the word). Well now Greg Laswell, the massively talented musician, singer, producer, and dog-biscuit producer, is back with his 5th studio album "The Landline". I want to pause and point out the rare statement that "5th studio album" is on today's music blogosphere. As someone who has many-a friend within the industry. The feet of creating 5 studio albums is just baffling in today's music ecosystem, so congrats to Greg on that note. [...]

Greg Laswell’s pop-driven, poignant songwriting is such that he has earned play in several TV shows and movies (Grey's Anatomy , True Blood , My Sister's Keeper , Dollhouse ). Now with his fifth full-length record, Landline , he continues his tradition of writing stellar tunes that embody great songwriting- they’re catchy, but not too much so, they have lyrical depth, skilled yet simple arrangements, and abound with beautiful melodies. Laswell's style embodies somewhat of a combination between the melancholia of Stephin Merritt (the Magnetic Fields), or perhaps the pop sensibility of David Gray. [...]

Our Cinco de Mayo rocked with some of the albums below, yet while you see Keane and Silversun Pickups, they weren't the only artists requested to keep spinning. Nope, S. Carey somehow stole the show, which makes you wonder when you might start to hear requests on the radio. The artist off of Jagjaguwar Records with the half name S. Carey launches his Hoyas EP just in time for people to get to know him. For those than know Bon Iver, he's the drummer of Bon Iver, Sean Carey, and you've known he's talented. [...]
" Writing songs when you aren't heartbroken or self-destructive requires a little more work," observes Greg Laswell of his own personal, positive "reboot of sorts". The pain of relationships gone bad and the various emotional fodder that fed his own creative struggle have pretty much been happily on the wane recently for the performer known for his way with a smart melody and distinctively weary hang-dog vocals. Married now to fellow performing songwriter Ingrid Michaelson and relocated to New York City, Laswell completed his new fourth album in record time (for him), lugging his [...]

Filed under: News , New Music Big Hassle Before recording his latest album Landline , Greg Laswell uprooted himself from his California home and relocated to a small lobstering town in down-east Maine. There, he got to work on the 12 tracks that make up his fifth full-length. Today, Spinner is premiering the record's first single, "Dragging You Around," a track that features Australian pop singer Sia . The song begins [...]

90 degree weather in the city didn't slow us down today thanks to Morgan Page 's latest work, In the Air . Yes, the DJ from LA previously amazed us with his track "Body Work", which also appears on this album and is one of the singles, but "Addicted" appeals more to us thanks to a favorite of ours, Greg Laswell. The adjoining piano and vocal combination wins for my favorite on this club-ready album, yet it's collaboration which we're keen on. Also on this album are Tegan and Sara , [...]

Music, as a wise woman once declared, makes the people come together. As with his 2010 studio album Believe , Progressive House DJ/producer Morgan Page 's third effort In The Air relies on vocal contributions by talented singers hailing from a multitude of genres. As he explained of his new album: "This record exists between the club and pop worlds with a little bit of indie thrown in there as well. I wanted to try some new flavors and attitudes, while keeping my sound intact." Accordingly, there's a slew of new [...]
