On latest single "Come Back Down," Greg Laswell has combined forced with Sara Bareilles (of "Love Song" fame) to create a shining example of a great piano pop song. The track is a composition of opposites: a steady drum beat layered over delicate piano, Laswell's booming voice mixing with Bareilles' sugar-sweet croons. The effect is [...]

Holy crap. Just, holy crap. Songs come in many forms. They can slowly sneak up on you, requiring multiple plays before they become something you can't do without. They can catch your attention early, demanding immediate repeat listening. They can be shit, like One Direction (seriously, "Best British Single" at the BRIT Awards?). And some songs punch you - hard, as hard as hard can be - in the stomach. Gut-wrenching, breath-taking, pounding, gasping. "Come Back Down" is one of those - by Greg Laswell ( whom I've featured before, over three [...]
Greg Laswell may have packed up his gear and moved to New York, but he's still got his SoCal roots. So it shouldn't be too much of a surprise he's recruited Hotel Cafe songbird Sara Bareilles to duet with him on his new single "Come Back Down." Driving piano arpeggios, mighty vocals and tight harmonies make this another sweeping pop anthem from the singer-songwriter, and its music video sets a powerful tone with racing images (both broad and detailed) to keep up with the song's tempo. "Come Back Down" is from Laswell's forthcoming album "Landline," which is [...]

Greg Laswell debuts Come Back Down, an song that begs for his friend to revisit us here on earth.
I know I am a little late on this, but here are the albums that I am looking forward to hearing the most. Please understand this is not my guess at what will be the best albums of 2012, or my attempt at finding the pulse of what the general public is most excited about. These the 12 albums that I am personally the most excited about. Also know that I have excluded several albums that have already been released that surely would have made this list, had I done a month ago, including the new ones by [...]
It’s hard to believe that the ever-prolific Jack White has never released a solo album, but it’s true that Blunderbuss is indeed his solo debut. It’s due out April 24 via Third Man Records/Columbia ... Former Fleet Foxes drummer Josh Tillman will release Fear Fun under the moniker Father John Misty on May 1 via [...]

Producer, singer, songwriter Greg Laswell has pulled together some amazing talent as collaborators on his new album Landline . Featuring guests Ingrid Michaelson, Sia, Elizabeth Ziman (of Elizabeth and the Catapult) and Sara Bareilles, the new album's inclusion of female singers was brought on by Laswell's constant rotation of hip hop records he was listening to while writing and recording the album. Landline was recorded entirely in a church-turned-house owned by Laswell's in-laws and inspired the album's name for its lack of cellular coverage. Besides inspiring the album's title, the recording environment also led [...]
I've always loved Ingrid... just a fact. And after she married Greg Laswell the two of them have nearly bumped Gweneth & Chris off of my favorite celeb couple list. I suppose it would be classified as "chick music" but I happen to be a girl (if any of you hadn't caught on to that [...]

As we noted over the weekend in The Year's Best Coverfolk, Part 1: Tribute Albums and Cover Collections , it's been a good year for full-album coverage. Overall, though, despite the fact that, in terms of sheer mass, covers from tributes overwhelm singletons in my collection, what I've found this year is that a significant majority of the songs that lingered, and demanded overplay, came from a mixed bag of borderline genre albums and single shot coverfolk tracks, via the usual sources, from YouTube, Soundcloud, studio appearances, website and bandcamp singles, and more. [...]
GLEE can't come up with any new ideas, so they start ripping off other artists' covers of songs, namely Greg Laswells cover of Cyndi Laupers "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun."
It's been a while since I've posted some cover songs. I've been a fan of The Voice Project website for quite some time. Basically, the idea is

The song is called “Great Big Plans.” Production duties were handled by the talented Greg Laswell. Jenny Owen Youngs and I shared some one-on-one time a couple years ago out front of The Vollrath Tavern. I walked out and Jenny and friends were firing a pigskin around like Peyton Manning and Co. I jumped in and was immediately impressed with her velocity and tight spiral. Jenny doesn't mess around. Later on that evening, she impressed me even moreso with her vocal stylings and musicianship. JOY is releasing a new digital single today called " Great Big Plans " via her Bandcamp /Internetz today. The new song [...]
