The Kora Records fellas, the same peeps who brought us Gregor Samsa , just let us in on Fredrik 's new album, Trilogi which is actually material from 3 limited previous EPs and packaged in hand-made origami packaging. If Barzin took less drugs, lived in a Swedish forest and is next door neighbor's with Mum , then Trilogi would be the end result. Folksy, dark, "atmospheric" and mythic, I don't want to spoil it by saying its kinda twee because it's much more abstract, discerning and intricate than that. [...]

Image From Here Sorry about being away for a few days. Had a lot of personal stuff to take care of. But, I should be back to my normal daily posting now. Some of these albums came out in 2008, but are still new to me. Some, came out in the early part of '09. Hopefully, they are ones that are new to you too. Coming up, will be new releases for this week. Enjoy! How I missed out on Canadian Faunts 2005 release High Expectations/Low [...]

Gregor Samsa is a rotating collective of musicians based out of Richmond, Virginia that specializes in a slow, minimal post-rock sound. The music often revolves around the hush-hush vocals of Champ Bennett and Nikki King, who provide grounding for the ethereal instrumentation, which incorporates clarinet, violin and vibraphone, among others. I had always been a huge fan of the band's song "Young and Old" from 2006's 55:12 , which starts quietly and builds to a gorgeous, violin-led climax. So, naturally, after hearing the live version of the track, which appears on this year's Over Air [...]

This week's New Music Tuesday is going to feature several bands that are new to me this year and have caught my attention for their brilliance. If you haven't heard of them yet, take a sample and enjoy... Kestrels A kestrel is a type of bird, a member of the falcon genus. Unfortunately, that Wikipedia reference has little to do with the Canadian band whose debut single has been lodged in my Top 10 of the week for a couple months [...]

Gregor Samsa is a group you might have a hard time pinning a label on. People have used terms like post-rock or slowcore to describe them, but neither of those really do it for me. While fans of Sigur Ros or Explosions in the Sky will find a lot to enjoy here, I'm hesitant to draw too close a comparison. Their music is too symphonic to be slapped with a post-rock label - I think there's more Nico Muhly or Philip Glass here than Mogwai, if you know what I mean. Fronted vocally by both Champ Bennett and Nikki [...]
![Gregor Samsa: Rest [Album Review]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/1563138_lg.jpg)
Buried in the sound of slumber, Rest is an ample title for the latest album by Gregor Samsa ( MySpace ). The music finds a home among fellow soft, melodic artists like Sigur Rös, mixing minimalism with composed instrumentation. Fittingly, guitar parts have mostly been replaced by piano - recorded on Philip Glass's old Bösendorfer! Even in the earliest of moments of "The Adolescent", the vocals act more as accompaniment than a typical focal point. The lyrics are soft and difficult to decipher beyond bits and [...]

We've recently decided to add MP3's to our Album/Gig reviews and features; this is so you can have a better indication of what the band/artist at hand sounds like, especially when it comes to our radar series. So to start off this new chapter in the 405 book, here's a few songs for you that have appeared in our posts from the last month! MP3: The BPA - Spade MP3: Passion Pit - Cuddle Fuddle MP3: [...]

Despite Knox Road's self-proclaimed label as a "music blog" (don't know why we settled on that...), we would be remiss not to mention the biggest sporting event of the year. So everyone knows, we're kinda all rooting against the heavily favored Steelers - what with Jamie from Philadelphia, Bob from Maryland (toss him into the Ravens pile), and me from Boston. But what's a Super Bowl without some preparatory music? Well don't fret. Here's a couple songs to hold you over until you root for those underdog Cardinals (whom, by the way, the Patriots defeated 47-7 late in the [...]

Usually here on Mix Tape Monday I will generally hit recent stuff that I have liked but generally don't hit too many unheard of or new releases, but that is going to change right now (for this one post at least) and I thought I would drop some knowledge on some recent/upcoming releases that are worth checking out. Thing One is a band from New Jersey, and I had become aware of them recently with their release of their EP "You'll Be Fine". The song "Move It" is the single off [...]

It's been a while since I've done one of these, so it was about time. It's been interesting as of late here at the POP! Stereo. Several of these Ten Tracks You Need posts have been taken down by Blogger. I'm not sure why exactly because they don't tell you the offending track, but they're gone in any case. In an effort not to get kicked off of Blogger, I'm going to begin removing the older Ten Tracks You Need posts. So get them while their hot, as they won't be there much longer. In the meantime though, [...]

Best line of the weekend: My friend's girlfriend ( out of the blue ): - Why don't you ever write me romantic poems? My friend: - What ? I did , don't you remember? I wrote one a few weeks ago. My friend's girlfriend ( angry ): - That was just about how you wanted to have anal sex with me! My friend: - What's not romantic [...]
