While there have been a number of albums that have been absolutely incredible, music is remembered by the songs that top everything else that you go back to time and time again. This year has been no exception. Runner Up, 11 - Empire State Of Mind (Part II) Broken Down - Alicia Keys This was a song that I hadn't heard up until a couple days ago. Keys is not an artist who usually pops up [...]

These weren't listed on Hype because of where I uploaded them, so now we'll upload to a place that does link in. New Artist: Lisa Piccirillo Momentum - Lisa Piccirillo Album Review: Battler Broken Through - Gregory Douglass Hang Around - Gregory Douglass We'll now return to ... whatever it was you were doing, and work on getting this back together.

Battler is the latest album from Vermont singer-songwriter Gregory Douglass, one that builds upon his earlier works and boosts his sound to new excellence. This album is a good example of the progression of one's sound, while testing the waters with new sounds and styles. But beyond the sound and style of this album, the real bright point here is the overall theme that is demonstrated over a number of tracks. While I won't go over each track individually, but I will highlight a couple that really exemplify this. Broken Through is the opening [...]

As 2008 comes to a close, everyone is starting to think about the upcoming year and what will be coming out. There's never a shortage of artists who we always want to be releasing new materials, and already, I've started looking for what will be coming out in 2009. Here's what I'm really looking forwards to: Untitled - Carbon Leaf Carbon Leaf is my all-time favorite band. I've seen them numerous times in concert, and for the past year and a half, there's been talk of first two albums, then a new album and [...]

One of my favorite discoveries of this past year is Gregory Douglass, a local singer-song writer out of Burlington who has a smooth and lyrical sound - evocative pop, as I've heard it described. His 2006 album Up and Away was a real pleasure to listen to and review . The other day, I received some information about his upcoming album, to be entitled Battler , which is due out to be released in February of 2009. However, he has a pretty cool pre-order plan that ranges from $10 to $1000, which will put the album [...]
Continuing with Coldplay things this week, I did a little digging around and found a couple of good covers that Coldplay has done recently of other artists, and a couple of Coldplay songs that have been covered by other artists. Coldplay's done two pretty good covers - 2000 Miles , originally by the Pretenders, and Can't Get You Out Of My Head , originally by Kylie Minogue. In both instances, they provide their own solid sound to each, which is pretty nice to hear. Helena Noguerra also does her own version [...]
This week's Cover and Original comes with a pair that has two really different takes on the song. The cover, performed by Gregory Douglass last year, which made it onto his album Retro Active: Volume 1 . His take on the song is very stark, with no background music at all. Douglass brings a much different tone to the song, phrasing words and sections differently, making this a much more mournful version. Sarah McLachlan's version, off of Fumbling Towards Ecstasy is a much richer song - there's a lot [...]
