On paper, the idea of remixing a Grizzly Bear track sounds like a such a bad idea. But then when you learn that the guy doing the remix is Nicolas Jaar , it's a pretty set thing that whatever you're about to hear is probably going to be pretty fantastic. It's been a busy Record Store Day for Grizzly Bear , having two releases make their way to eager vinyl-buying coolcats. In addition to the 123 single they released with Nicolas Jaar and Brian Eno for a "Sleeping Ute" remix, they've also dropped their debut album Horn Of Plenty on vinyl for the first time. Not to be thought of as slackers, they've also released [...]

What do you know about standing in line outside for fifteen minutes to gain entrance into a slammed record store (Vacation Vinyl, Silverlake), only to discover that the one record you wanted for Record Store Day was already sold out. 20 copies gone before 12:30 p.m. I suppose I can chalk this up to the unholy combination of RSD and 4/20. Thankfully, a streaming version of the Nicolas Jaar/Grizzly Bear/Brian Emo split 123 is available - at least Jaar's remix of Los Osos Pardos. If these two toured together, I might just follow them around the country, Dead-style, foraging for [...]

In honor of Record Store Day, Grizzly Bear released two records today: a split Nicolas Jaar remix 12-inch (also featuring Brian Eno) plus the first-ever vinyl release of the band's debut Horn of Plenty . We've already heard two very different remixes of Phoenix's Bankrupt! single "Entertainment" earlier this year thanks to Dev Hynes and Dinosaur Jr . Today we get another reworking of the track, this one coming from fellow indie heavyweight Grizzly Bear. With their version, they've managed to transform the sweeping feel of the original into a much more energetic one, as they've chopped the vocals and synths and paired them with looping, almost manic percussion. Stream it below through Spotify or via Grizzly Bear Galore. [...]

Back in 2010, Grizzly Bear recruited Phoenix to remix one of their songs. However, Phoenix "never found the boldness to mess with their beautiful songs," so instead they created an "aleatory and combinatory remix" , pairing a YouTube video of "Foreground" alongside a selection from Brian Eno's 1975 ambient album Discreet Music . It appears Grizzly Bear did not have the same reservations when it came time to remix Phoenix's new single, "Entertainment" , chopping and twisting synth and vocals alongside a frantic loop of percussion. Take a listen below via Spotify, or [...]

Nicolas Jaar stretches out Grizzly Bear 's " Sleeping Ute " into one of his classic, elegantly layered, haunting slow-builders, guaranteed to move refined dancefloors everywhere. Taken from their beautiful / instantly sold-out collaborative Record Store Day exclusive 123 , which also features Jaar's remix of Brian Eno 's " Lux ," and is already being offered at a premium on ebay by enterprising RSD price-gougers:

The latest from Titus Andronicus-alum Andrew Cedermark, "Canis Major" combines the nostalgia-heavy "lazy suburban afternoon" rock of Cedermark's northern New Jersey contemporaries with the psych-pop buoyancy of Grizzly Bear. Cedermark may have the most emphatically "pop" aspirations of the Underwater Peoples collective (which counts Real Estate and Ducktails as members); "Canis Major" borrows from alt-country, guitar-obsessed British indie, and the style of lighthearted groove rock that saw its heyday as sitcom themes throughout the 90s. Taking a big step away from his more isolated earlier work (like the beautifully chilly Moon Deluxe ), "Canis Major" is Cedermark's most approachable [...]
Having started this month with a great show from Grizzly Bear, I've been re-obsessed with their album Shields. In this video they chat about jumping back in the recording saddle, handing the music video duties over to directors they respect and connecting with the audience when playing live.
The indie folk newcomers REDFOOT from New York City reveal a new music video for their haunting single Make It Quick. For the track the four piece worked together with Darby Cicci from THE ANTLERS who helped shaping this experimental, but also catchy and melancholic sound. It's that time of the year again, everybody! The best holiday of the year (yes, better than National Ferris Wheel Day AND Leif Erikson Day) has returned . I've been going to Record Store Day since 2009, and even when I didn't look up the releases beforehand, I'd still walk out of my favorite record store (RIP Cutlers in New Haven) with something unique and special. Unique and special is what Record Store Day does incredibly well, and it's why we love it so much. Since its relatively humble beginnings in 2008, the event has grown in popularity every [...]
