There's not much to be said of Groundislava 's latest cool mix. It's simply that good. The LA based producer takes on the infamous Shlohmo , creating an aquatic soundscape with hints of galactic punk and pre-historic tribal dance, resulting in a track that needs to be heard to be understood. This past August, Venice, CA's Jasper Patterson, aka Groundislava (or Ground Is Lava), released his sophomore LP, Feel Me , which featured the electronic composer teaming with a host of musicians (most of whom are part of the Wedidit Collective , of which Patterson is a member). For Feel Me track "Suicide Mission," Patterson worked with Baths, and the two produced a shimmering, dark, down-tempo piece with a haunting Baths vocal. Among other tracks, my favorite cut on Groundislava 's Feel Me album is the Baths -assisted " Suicide Mission ". The feature is undoubtedly a huge draw, if only because it feels like forever since we previously heard Baths' celestial falsetto. But Groundislava's rich, dense production is what makes this track truly shine. Kind of like the otherworldly being who appears in the video for "Suicide Mission". He/she was apparently sent to Earth to interact with some of its inhabitants and eventually ... well, I won't spoil it. Watch below. [ via ]
